Itinerary

Meet your guide in central Athens to start your walking tour. After a leisurely stroll through the streets of Athens, stop to explore one of the city’s little-known architectural wonders—the Petraki Monastery. Hear about the monastery’s 1,000-year history and how it is still inhabited by monks today, as you step inside its hallowed halls. Marvel over the distinctive Byzantine-style church, one of the best examples of its kind in southern Greece, and admire the 18th-century frescoes, thought to be the work of the celebrated hagiographer Georgios Markou.

Continue your discovery with a guided tour of the nearby Byzantine and Christian Museum, housed in the former palace of a Greek duchess. Follow your guide around the fascinating exhibitions, which display more than 25,000 artifacts from Byzantine Greece, dating between 600 BC and the mid-15th century. Marvel over antiquities, religious artifacts, and paintings, including a magnificent collection of Coptic Christian paintings and some striking mosaics.

End your tour at the museum’s acclaimed restaurant, where you enjoy a decadent 3-course lunch with a Medieval Greek theme. Dine on a starter and main dish, plus shared salads and a shared dessert platter, accompanied by a glass of fine local wine. With your appetite sated, bid your guide a fond farewell and make your own way back to your hotel.
