Michael was so incredibly knowledgeable and a person who truly loves what he does. We had an incredibly informative and entertaining day! We had already spent hours at the acropolis museum the day before…which enabled us to lengthen out times at other sites.

My husband, daughter (10 years old), and I visited Athens during a Mediterranean cruise with a port stop from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. My husband is a philosophy professor and I am a former archaeology professor, we knew we wanted to make the most of our limited time and see as many historically significant sites as possible while in Athens. After extensive research, we chose this tour—and it exceeded every expectation.
From the beginning, our driver, Anestis, provided excellent communication and was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. He was also a very safe driver, and his spacious, comfortable vehicle made it easy to enjoy a full day of exploring. Along the way, he shared fascinating insights, answered countless questions, and impressed us with his knowledge of multiple languages and cultures. His friendly personality and engaging conversation made the day even more enjoyable.
We also hired a licensed guide, Helen, and she was absolutely amazing. Her depth of knowledge brought Athens to life, and she tailored the experience to our specific interests. We had some unusual requests, including visits to Plato’s "original" Academy and the site traditionally associated with Socrates’ Prison. Helen not only took us to these locations but also provided thoughtful explanations of the archaeological evidence, historical context, and current scholarly understanding. We especially appreciated learning about the archaeological finds in the area, including the discovery of hemlock cups and the discussion surrounding where Socrates may have spent his final days.
One of the greatest advantages of this private tour was the flexibility. We were able to ask questions, spend time taking photos, and move at our own pace. Helen expertly guided us through the museums and sites, helping us understand and appreciate what we were seeing in a way that would not have been possible on our own, especially within such a limited timeframe.
To top it all off, they recommended a wonderful restaurant where we enjoyed some of the best Greek food of our trip.
This tour provided exactly what we were hoping for: an engaging, educational, and deeply memorable experience of Athens. We wholeheartedly recommend this company, as well as Helen and Anestis, to anyone visiting Athens, whether you're arriving by cruise ship or staying in the city. They helped make our day in Athens truly unforgettable.

This private tour was amazing. Our driver Anestis was very friendly and knowledgeable. He made sure we saw all the main sites of Athens. It was great having a driver for quick pick ups and drop offs. The local family owed Greek Tavern was the perfect place for lunch- away the touristy areas! We only had a day in Athens and it was a great tour to do. Highly recommend

Highly recommend this Viator tour if you want to see the best of Athens in a day. It’s a busy itinerary, so be prepared for a full day of exploring, but our guide was excellent and kept us engaged throughout. Traveling in April was a great call; the crowds were manageable and the temperature was just right

Wear good walking shoes. It is a strenuous climb to the acropolis and my husband and I only made it halfway while our adult kids went all the way up. This tour lets you move at your own pace but there is a lot to see. Michael our driver was great and gave us an amazing overview of Athens. He took us to a wonderful restaurant for lunch where we enjoyed authentic Greek dishes. There were 7 in our group and we all enjoyed this tour. We can't say enough about what a great guide Michael was. It was so much fun!

This was an excellent tour when we did it. The woman who was our guide, a phenomenal understanding of the history and communicated that very well during our trip.. both the driver and the guide were extremely polite. The van that they used was in excellent condition and likely the best way to tour the entire city. I highly recommend.

Our driver Michael was an excellent guide. I can't say enough good things about this company - our tour was on December 26th and we were contacted the night before and advised that all the museums and major attractions would be closed. We were given the option of a full refund which we appreciated but decided to go ahead with our tour. Michael was very informative and engaging and took us to as many sites as possible. Overall definitely recommend.

A very full day of city highlights and lots of information. Our guide was nice and knowledgeable. We walked a long way up to see the acropolis but it was worth it. The elevator was not working the day we were there.

This was a great tour! Athens is definitely big and busy and it was nice to have a driver to help us get around. In all of the other tours we took, we had a driver and a tour guide who went with us to each site. But our tour guide, Michael was great. He knew a lot about each site and was from the area! We had a great time and were very thankful for him. I just texted when we were ready and he was there within a minute.
We stopped at this great restaurant for lunch, Karrapn. It had good service and great food. Would recommend!
Our favorite sight was definitely the Acropolis which I loved you can see from everywhere in the city. Very tiring day but would reccomend!

Athens is spectacular! The guide was maybe a little unnecessary. We felt we probably could have found it all on our own if we'd read up, and with the bus or metro. He didn't add much, nor was he super personable.

Our driver Dimitris is friendly and knowledgeable. He recommended a local Greek restaurant and it's the best meal for our entire Mediterranean cruise trip. Price is reasonable and the seafood is so fresh. We miss it very much.

Christos, our driver and guide was fabulous!!! He was friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable of Athens!

Dimitris was a fabulous guide throughput the day. He picked us up at our hotel in Plaka. At each stop he would not only inform us of what to see or notice but also provided iinformation and history about the site. Dimitris told interesting stories about Greek mythology, Greek history and word origins. Timing was perfect. A few of the highlights - we witnessed the changing of the guard, visited the modern Olympic Stadium, of course the Acropolis, admired the Pantheon, then walked through Agora before going to lunch at a typical family owned restaurant away from the tourist areas. He took us to the highest hill for a spectacular view of Athens. Before he left us off at the end of the day in Monastariki he pointed out other attractions and activities, especially noting the rooftop restaurants with views of the Acropolis. A great way to start our visit to Greece.
