If you want the history of the Acropolis with a very passionate tour guide, this is the tour for you. He should be a History professor. If you want just a quick and easy tour this is not the tour for you. Be ready to learn a lot.

If you learn best by walking the same grounds as remarkable figures during significant moments in history and want to understand the social, political and religious influences of that time, this tour fulfilled it. Harris was thorough and engaging and found ways to link us all to the past. He had impactful words of empowerment as well.
He kindly and patiently took photos of groups at highlight areas and gives a generous amount of time. Our tour was over 3 hours. So let him know ahead of time if you need to leave at a certain time. We were grateful for this unique experience!

Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about the history of Athens and the acropolis!

I did this tour and it was only me. I must admit admit I thought at the beginning that it might be a bit hard to be only me and the guide but it was very pleasant and personalised. I would recommend it 100%

I was on this tour with one other tourist, and actually felt very immersed in the experience with our guide, Harris. He made us feel important, explained the history, information and connection of Greek history with the landmarks of Acropolis and Pantheon, but more importantly, how it is linked with democracy and western civilisation. This is a tour experience I enjoyed very much, and highly recommend anyone to participate in, especially if you have a strong interest of deep history.

Tour is exactly as described - in-depth and informative but still relaxed. Harris is happy to take the time to answer any questions that come up and has the broader knowledge to place the subject within its wider historical context. Very well priced for the time and insight offered.

Our tour guide Harris was outstanding. A passionate and well informed deep dive into Greek history, what it takes to create a democracy and the significance of the Acropolis as an expression of the principles of the classical age of Greek philosophy. I highly recommend for anyone with a love of history and philosophy.

We love history and wanted to avoid the typical Acropolis tours that feel superficial and full of clichés. After quite a bit of research, we were really happy to find the Historical Tour.
It turned out to be almost 4 hours of deep, well-connected insights, not only about the Acropolis itself, but about the broader context that makes this period and place so unique.
It was genuinely moving to imagine the birth of theatre and so many other pivotal moments.
We did the tour in the afternoon in April and it was great! If it’s warm, bring a hat and plenty of water.
We highly recommend it, without hesitation.

When I booked The Acropolis of Athens Historical Tour for History Enthusiasts for myself and my 17 year old daughter I described it to her: “It seems to be an almost 3 hour university level lecture on The Acropolis and its place in history, philosophy and politics.” Harris delivered beyond that expectation. As people who look for the the “why” of everything, we feel privileged to have received his wondrously wide breadth of knowledge and understanding of the history of the development of The Acropolis, the people involved and the impact it’s had from inception to present day.
Harris is a personable guide who made a point to connect with us and make the information he shared relevant to our interests. I can’t imagine a better way to experience The Acropolis.

Everything you want to know about Athens and the Acropolis, and then some, can be found on this tour! Our tour guide was an amazing wealth of knowledge. He went above and beyond to teach us the history of the area, and answer all of our questions! If you love a deep dive into history, this is the tour for you! You will not be disappointed!

Really enjoyed my Acropolis Historical tour. Brought Athens to life with not only its historical, but cultural timeline importance. So much information to cover, but carefully organised by a very knowledgeable guide.
Stephanie_Z, Mar 2026
Wonderful tour and great comprehensive information. Everything really tied together for me between Byzantine empire, Ottoman Empire, the transformation that the Acropolis has gone through. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants really in depth information about everything!! I did take my 11 year old with me and I think he was great for the most part, but they do loose interest after 2 hours, so be aware of that.

Our guide was full of historical knowledge and leaves you feeling as if personally experienced the timeline he speaks of and imparts you a sense of to live life ethically.

Our guide was so extremely informative and enthusiastic about not only explaining history but also teaching the values in this world. He was spot on and so entertaining. We were so extremely lucky to experience this history with such a dedicated, high energy, respectful, and decent guy. He should be a teacher and if you let him guide you, you will see that he already is an educator. He knows what happened in every age, era, and place. What a lesson. We will always look for him and recommend him for tours in the future. Thanks for a fabulous afternoon! MEGAN and MATT STEVENS

If you're in Athens, book this guided tour of the Acropolis. My wife and I completed our visit with a “Historical Tour For History Enthusiasts” led by Harris, a real-life historian. But if that sounds dull and boring, you are definitely in for a treat. Turns out Harris is also a comedian, a philosopher, a photographer, a student, a teacher, and a very kind person. He brings the history of this ancient site to life and connected the brilliant innovations of ancient Greece to the world we live in today. I walked away with a profound new appreciation for the origins of democracy, philosophy, and athletics.
Beyond the fascinating commentary, the tour itself was a feast for the eyes. The Parthenon and other ancient structures are breathtaking up close, and the panoramic views from the top of the rock are simply amazing. You can see all of modern Athens stretching out below, creating a stunning contrast between the ancient and the new.
I can't recommend this tour highly enough. Our guide’s humor and expertise transformed what could have been a simple sightseeing trip into a truly meaningful and memorable historical journey. Book this tour—you won't regret it.

Fantastic tour, really out of the ordinary. This is not an ordinary touristic visit. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable. We had in depth discussions not only on the history of Acropolis and Greece, but also the impact it had on western civilisation and the world today. The guide also did a great job in making the visit entertaining, even for our kids who enjoyed the stories and quiz!
Highly recommend for those who want to learn one layer further.

I appreciate his passion for history.

Harris was so knowledgeable and helped us learn about the history of the area back to 10,000 years BC. He was a very patient and knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor! We had an amazing time and are leaving Athens knowing more about Greek history and even some life lessons. He paused to help take photos of us and knew all the best spots to stand. Amazing!!

Harris was an unbelievable tour guide. Immense knowledge of Greek and world history. He led many thoughtful and provoking dialogues with Greek history and what it can teach civilization today as a role model. Highly recommend.
Maria_R, Sep 2025
think the tour is really worth it, because you can learn about the history of the Acropolis in much more detail. Otherwise, we would have only been able to look at the monuments without knowing what lies behind them. Thanks to Haralampos for taking the time and interest to explain everything to us.
I don’t just recommend it 100%, I encourage anyone considering this experience to go for it. Haralampos is always attentive to every question, and the way he explains everything makes the tour engaging and enjoyable. At the end, he even invited us to reflect on what we had seen and heard, which made it even more special. I had never experienced that in other tours, and I loved it because it gave my partner and me the chance to truly reflect on the history of the place.

Harry is passionate about his work, with an extensive knowledge of ancient Greek culture that he strives to convey to his clients. He was very friendly and helpful throughout. I highly recommend him.

The fact is , we were never taught history in an interesting way, we were only supposed to mug it and get the grades and hence hitosry was always BORING.
But Harris changed it all in a day.
I guess 1000s of people visit Acropolis every day ( at least ot looks like that way ) - but with Harris , we didn't feel the crowd at all.
Harris is not a tour guide...he is a historian - and we understood the difference that day.
It wasn't a standard orchestrated commentary of a tour guide - it felt like a movie director tooknus back in time and showed us whatbhapoened at a spot , centuries ago...re create the scene ..with passion and emotion bubbling in his voice.
It wasn't just about pantheon, who made it , dimensions ..blah blah blah..... but it was the whole story telling of what was the origination of theatre, the odeon, the mythology...the characters...with a very interesting debate on why one became popular than the other.
Harris beautifully peels off the history layer by layer , taking us back through different ages and how Athens had been invaded abd rebuilt and repeat and repeat and repeat ....from Byzantines to the Ottomans to the medieval age and ancient Greeks - although I didn't win any candy :( ( oh yeah, you can win candies with Harris - that's the fun bit which was never done in our history classes )
But the bottom line is , it wasn't just a history tour ..what Harris ends up leaving you with is a deep philosophical messaging of why these structures were built probably , what's the purpose that our ancestors wanted to be passed on generations after generations to live a better life.
We may forget the history, but we remember the lesson .
Thanks for such a beautiful experience Harris.
So, don't think twice and go for this one :)
[ P.S - Harris is a true gentlemen , offered his umbrella first to the lady in the tour ]

Really fun and interesting tour if you love history! Harris gave us a sense of what has been at the Acropolis over the years, and how to interpret and imagine the past based on what's there now. He's a super-nerd, with deep knowledge of the Acropolis, Athens, and Greek history and he blends all of that together with interesting tidbits and anecdotes and mythology mixed in with all the facts. He adds amazing details with a real engineering mindset too, explaining the technology they used to join the marble pieces together, why pieces of the parthenon look curved up close in order for it to look straight from further away. He also added information based on my interests, once he knew I wanted to know more about mythology and theatre, he sprinkled more of that into the tour. After asking about where else folks in the tour had been in Greece (I came from Crete), he brought in references to those other places and explained how they tied into various chapters of Athenian and Greek history. Couldn't have asked for a better tour, this is exactly the level of historical insight that I wanted! And it was never boring, always entertaining and fun, would recommend to anyone looking for an illuminating tour of the Acropolis!

We had an amazing time on the Acropolis with Harris! He was super thoughtful and an excellent communicator, checking the weather and the status of the elevator (my dad was in wheelchair) to make sure our tour was smooth and easy. He really goes the extra mile! He gave us all context on the political and historical evolution of Greece through the centuries so when we got to the acropolis we understood everything much better. He kept everyone engaged with entertaining stories woven through. Harris ensured that everyone from my dad to my nephew had a good time, explaining everything in detail, with excellent visual aides. He has great energy and enthusiasm and did a masterful job navigating the crowds up at the Acropolis. I highly recommend him for a tour, I got so much out of it and feel I understand both the Acropolis and the history of Greece so much better. I would definitely go on another tour with him when I’m back in Athens!

Exceptional!! If you love history then this is the tour for you. Harris was so knowledgeable, giving us the perfect amount of information and answering any question we had. Not to mention he has the best personality! He truly made our time at the acropolis a memorable experience. 10/10 would book with him again.
