We are so glad that we booked this tour, especially the early start. Our guide Niamb was fantastic with a wealth of experience and knowledge. The early start meant we were cool enough and beat some of the crowds. We booked the museum ticket at the same time which was invaluable. Took my 77 year old mum who managed it well. Would highly recommend.

The guide was excellent in terms of knowledge but he walked too quickly and left people behind. This became quite stressful, especially as the path could be slippery at times.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for your feedback regarding your tour with us. We are pleased to hear that you found your guide's knowledge to be excellent, as we take great pride in the historical depth of our tours. However, we sincerely appreciate your comments regarding the pace of the walk. The safety and comfort of our guests are our top priorities, and we understand that the marble paths can be challenging to navigate. We have shared your feedback with our guiding team to ensure that we maintain a pace that is inclusive and considerate of all participants, regardless of age, allowing everyone to enjoy the site without stress. We hope that despite the brisk pace, the beauty of the Acropolis and the museum left you with lasting memories of Athens. Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team

Cynthia_M, Mar 2026
We had an incredible experience with Margarites at the Acropolis and museum. She is a wonderful teacher and storyteller and our family learned and retained so much information from our time with her about Greek mythology, customs, and language. She was talented in selecting interesting facts and content, coloring in the stories with details, and keeping us interested and engaged. I'll also add that her voice was so pleasant and soothing to listen to. We are so grateful for such a spectacular experience with her -- our time with her was one of the memorable highlights of our week in Athens!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hi Cynthia, what a beautiful tribute to Margarita’s storytelling! It’s one thing to hear facts, but it’s another to actually "retain" the history, mythology, and even the language, that is the mark of a truly gifted teacher. We love that her soothing voice and talent for "coloring in the stories" turned a tour into a core memory for your family. We’ll be sure to share this spectacular feedback with her! Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team

Wow. Rina was a wealth of information. My husband was a bit hobbled due to a knee replacement in June. She was very patient and helpful. This is a great tour. All the ruins were explained in detail as were the exhibits in the museum.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Hi Beverly, Thank you for your lovely feedback! We’re thrilled to hear that Rina’s knowledge, patience, and attentiveness made the tour both enjoyable and accessible for your husband. It’s so good to know that the history of the Acropolis and its museum came alive for you both! Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Great tour even in the rain

Vickie_O, Oct 2025
We took the Acropolis tour and the museum tour with Maria. She was excellent and provided much information we would not have otherwise been exposed to. It rained during the entire tour, but they provided rain gear for all. The Acropolis is naturally very slippery due to the terrain ( hilly and lots of marble), but the rain made it more difficult. Maria was undaunted by the weather and maintained ongoing commentary. She was also very patient and took extra care to assure we were all okay. Great tour even in the rain!

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hi Vickie, Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re so glad Maria’s knowledge, patience, and care helped make your tour enjoyable, even in the rain. It’s wonderful that the team could support you through the slippery terrain and keep the commentary going—true dedication makes all the difference! Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Fascinating Journey - Excellent Tour

Devin_H, Oct 2025
Very knowledgeable guide, of course the Acropolis is a once in a lifetime event and the guide really communicated well. Plenty of breaks, but there's no getting out of a lot of walking.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Devin, we’re so excited you enjoyed the journey! Our guides aim to balance rich storytelling with well-timed breaks, making the Acropolis experience as engaging and manageable as possible. It’s always a pleasure to hear it left a lasting impression. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Acropolis

Tony_O, Oct 2025
The actual event was fantastic, but the tour guide was not very interesting. She spoke anecdotally too much and not about the historical significance of the subject, essentially taking away valuable time of allowing us to take photos.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Tony, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We’re glad you enjoyed visiting the Acropolis, though we’re truly sorry to hear that the guiding style didn’t fully meet your expectations. Our guides aim to balance storytelling with historical depth, but we understand that this can vary depending on personal preference. Your feedback is invaluable and will help us refine our approach to ensure every guest enjoys both the insight and the experience. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

George_G, Sep 2025
The tour was very good and the guide was excellent. Understanding where to meet was a challenge. One small sign at coffee shop patio is the only indication that is where to gather for the walking tour. We walked past it four times and then had to ask another tour operator.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you, George, for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the tour and our guide’s excellent work. We appreciate your note about the meeting point and will look into making the signage clearer so it’s easier to spot right away. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Educational, Engaging, and Unforgettable!

Nicole_S, Sep 2025
You may only have once in this lifetime to experience the wonders of the Acropolis. The right guide can make or break that experience....Margarita was absolutely amazing—charming, local, and a natural educator. She made the trek up to the Parthenon feel effortless, stopping at key moments to explain what we were seeing and weaving in vivid stories from mythology that truly brought the ancient world to life. She engaged the group with thoughtful questions, made sure everyone was safe from the slippery stones and those sneaky pickpockets, and even gave us ample time to rest and grab a snack between the Acropolis and the museum. At the end, she led us through a memorable procession around the museum’s top floor, bringing the famous Parthenon frieze to life in a way we’ll never forget. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide—knowledgeable, warm, and completely tuned in to her group’s needs. Thank you, Margarita!

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you so much, Nicole! What a wonderful review to read. We’re happy to hear how Margarita’s passion, storytelling, and care elevated your visit to both the Acropolis and the Museum. She truly has a gift for bringing history to life while making everyone feel comfortable and engaged, and it’s rewarding to know you felt that throughout the tour. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Great History -- Poorly Paced Tour

George_S, Aug 2025
Extremely hot with little shade so hydration and sun protection are paramount. Maria was far too busy trying to impress us with details while keeping to a fixed schedule rather providing positive customer experience. Highly recommend this tour, but with another guide.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Dear George, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the history, but we’re sorry the pace didn’t meet your expectations. Not every guide is a perfect fit for every guest, but our tours are designed to suit the pace and interests of the whole group. We’ll share your comments with our team to keep improving. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Great experience

Emnet_Y, Aug 2025
Great learning from the tour; which we'd have zoomed thru it all in 30min. Wear a sneakers with grip sole since walking up the acropolis to the top & around Parthenon can be uneven & slippery. Pack cold water in the summer since can be hot upto 100s.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you, Emnet! We’re so glad you enjoyed the tour and found it enriching compared to exploring alone. Great tips as well—good shoes, plenty of water, and an early start make all the difference on a summer day at the Acropolis. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Great group tour!

Wendy_M, Aug 2025
We went on many tours and this was our favorite tour guide. We highly recommend it. Having the pre-purchased tickets for the 8 AM time in the hot summer was key. Even though it is a group tour the head sets allowed us to hear our tour guide clearly and she was wonderful! I felt like we got so lucky. She handled the heat and crowds with grace and made sure we were all included. I've visited the Acropolis before and this was by far my favorite tour experience!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you so much, Wendy! We’re thrilled this was your favorite tour experience, especially given your past visits to the Acropolis. Starting early, with pre-purchased tickets, really does make a difference in the summer heat. We’re so glad your guide made it engaging, clear, and inclusive for everyone in the group. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you, Rino! We’re happy to hear you enjoyed your tour with Nicoletta and appreciated her deep knowledge of the Acropolis and the museum. She’ll be so pleased to know she made your experience special.

Excellent knowledge and engagement. she was informative and entertaining. Great management of shade in incredible heat.

Don’t miss this opportunity!

We were extremely fortunate to have Philippia with us as our tour guide. Her knowledge and history of both places were amazing and informative. We learned a lot about Greek culture and history.

A Tour Worth the Price!

James_D, Jul 2025
This was a very informative tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. Our tour guide, Maria, was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. She provided a lot of great information on the site as well as the history behind its development. She was very engaging and kept the whole group interested. The Acropolis and its are pretty wide open, so sun screen, a hat, and water are essential. You can buy water before you enter or as you live - but there’s nothing available during the walk through the site. There is a lot of stair climbing to reach the summit, but Maria paced it well so no one got too tired. It is definitely not a tour for anyone with mobility issues. This tour cannot accommodate wheelchair guests, because the only wheelchair accessible route is through an entrance on the other side. The tour route can get VERY crowded, and some of the steps are steep and slippery. Don’t get distracted by the sights and miss a step - or the tourist who stops mid-stairs to take a photo! It was well worth the extra cost for the Acropolis Museum tickets and the guided tour. Note that there are many features of the Acropolis buildings that were removed for preservation and have been replaced on site with replicas. Many of the originals are in the Museum. It is a highlights tour - touring the entire Museum would take all day. Maria was able to connect the artifacts in the Museum with the archaeological site we had just visited. We might have found things ourselves, but it was much better with a guide. Once that part of the tour was over, we were free to explore more of the Museum on our own. The tour uses assistive audio devices, so you can wander a bit and still hear your guide. They provide a single ear phone, but you can use your own headset/ear buds if it has the old-style plug. Although the tour is a bit expensive, to us it was well worth it to hear the culture and history from a truly knowledgeable guide. If we had wandered the site and read placards on our own, we never would have gotten as much out of the visit!

Very informative and interesting

Nicole_H, Jul 2025
Panyioti, our tour guide, was thoughtful, kind, informative and knowledgeable. Panyioti gave us very detailed information in a digestible style through an earpiece so he was easy to hear. You could learn as much or as little as you wish. Hopefully the earpiece was only one way ;) it must have been because I tested it and Panyioti didn't appear to react lol. Panyioti advocated for us when I didn't want to surrender my backpack to the museum cloakroom (due to valuables). He cared about each and every person on the tour and was kind and accommodating. The only downside was the unbearable heat and limited spots to sit during the hours of standing around in the hot sun. Panyioti told us he would try to limit our stops in the sun, but because the place was so busy, it was still too much for kids. This was no fault of the tour, the attractions had been closed a few days earlier because of this. The advantage of the tour is that we could skip the very long lines. Although, for me personally (and this does come down to personal preference) I would have preferred to move faster through the attractions at the expense of some of the information. My advice would be that the tour is worth it, especially because of the information, prepaid admission, skipping the queues and personal assistance, but take a hat, a fan (if you go in July), bottled water (preferably in a thermos bottle) and wear good shoes. There are vending machines with water, but they only accept coins. If you need to go ahead for limited shade, you can and you will still hear your guide through the ear piece. I saw kids crying trying to cope with the heat, so take as many precautions as you can if you go during a heatwave.

We are very impressed with the whole process from Viator. Booking online was very straight forward. Email confirmation was sent immediately after booking. If you download the Viator app to your mobile phone you can add the booking to the app for easy access. The tour was hosted by “Athens Walking Tours” We checked in with the “Athens Walking Tours” rep, who had our details on their computer, at the designated meeting point. We were handed a headset so we could hear the tour guide. Vassiliki was our guide who was very good. She collected us at the allotted time from the meeting point and then and took us to the side entrance of the Acropolis. We waited no longer than five minutes to gain entry. Vassiliki was very knowledge without overburdening us with too many facts. As we progressed towards the Parthenon we stopped at strategic points (where there was shade) and Vassiliki explained the significance of the various ruins. Once we reached the Parthenon we had about 15 mins to take photos. We also included the museum tour. Once we had slowly descended from the Parthenon Vassiliki took us around the museum explaining the different artefacts. The whole tour took approx. 3.5 – 4hrs. If you are looking for a tour of the Acropolis/Parthenon I would definitely recommend you consider booking with Viator For Cruisers Our cruise ship docked at Piraeus. We left the port at terminal B. Directly across the road is the bus stop for the X80 bus to Athens. The ticket office is at the bus stop. It cost us 4.10 euros each for a return ticket. If you get off at the Acropolis bus stop The Athens Walking Tour” meeting point is directly across the road. The return bus stop is on the opposite side of the road from where you were dropped off. We believe the X80 Bus runs approx. every 40 minutes.
