Our tour guide, Paola, was a wealth of information about the paintings and the history of the era. She was also very good about dealing with some of our group's limitations (inability to stand in one place for a long time, etc.). Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful experience with Benedetta as our guide. She is an art historian, educated in Italy, with such in depth knowledge of the art and artists she showed us! And she made it so fun with little “challenges” as we looked at the art and architecture. She even took us to the dollhouses because she knew we were planning to see them after the tour. She talked about them with us as an historian—a different way of viewing them. Don’t miss this experience in Amsterdam!

The official museum tour has a strange schedule so I searched for and found this tour on Viator. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was extremely happy with our guide. He is clearly very experience and knowledgeable and showed us the main highlights. My only tiny complaint was the tour ended earlier than we expected and I would've loved to have seen more paintings.

However, once inside the museum and after the tour is over, you are allowed to stay and enjoy the works or art (8000 of them) for as long as you wish, as I am sure the guide told you could. Max was a joy. He was incredibly knowledgeable and able to provide information about the architect, building, design and many unique features that we would have missed. Then we started with the art, presented in a sequence that showed the development of artistic techniques. He knew about the period, artists and many times the subject of portrait. All in an informal and easy to understand style. If we ere staying longer we would ask for him again.

Max was knowledgeable, but his instructions for our meeting point were unclear. He didn’t contact us at all beforehand. When my husband finally found him, he was unapologetic as to the poor instructions. He didn’t introduce himself with his name- I had to ask him.. He did explain the stained glass windows and floor well. In the Hall, he kept moving people who were already there out of the way so we could see. I’m sure that his reasoning was that they could still see behind us, but it made us both very uncomfortable- over and over again. We told him we were done with the tour before the full time bc we were at a good stopping point and we weren’t really enjoying it anymore.

Everything you state in the review is a blatant lie, Kathleen! You received clear instructions both from Viator through the voucher and messages from us on Viator with the exact meeting point. You just did not bother to read them.
Max always introduces himself and all Rijksmuseum guides have a visible badge with their name clearly written on it. He is always kind and respectful towards all customers, even the pretentious and obnoxious ones.
The truth is that you were impossible to please, and hadn't Max tried his best so that you could see all the important works, you would have accused him of not having done enough for you. A walking disability does not give people the right to be rude!

We had a personal tour ( just the two of us with a guide) and it was worth every penny!! Our guide knew so much about the intricacies of how and why a painting was done- it was fascinating and I will never view a painting the same way again!!
We saw the most famous works by various Dutch masters ( I.e. Vermeer, Hals) and even a painting by a young woman ( rare in the time period).
Our guide made sure we could locate the museum’s rest rooms, coat room and the cafe… and told us what the other floors of the museum held.
We could not have asked for a better museum experience and are so pleased that we had made tour arrangements well ahead of our visit to Amsterdam. Viator was an excellent organization to work with , good communications and took great pains to see that we had the very best experience at the z Rijksmuseum.

Fabulous tour of the museum with Erin who gave us a knowledgeable and interesting tour of all the great artists and paintings. The 90 minutes seemed to fly by! She also included the history of the building itself which was interesting and gave us information about where else to look once the tour finished.

Insightful tour covering the Golden Dutch period in 90minutes. We learned a lot from Max, he shared a lovely tour focussing on the right level of detail on the highlights. We really recommend to other travellers to book tours with art experts, its a great way to learn more about the art, the artists, the context snd the time period. We had a 90 minute tour with Max and he was outstanding. We got a clear communication of exactly where to meet him. He proceeded to make sure we were comfortable and gave us a tour that started with some description of the museum itself just for context. We continued to the galleries and he really gave us insights into so many of the works of art. It was so much better than generic audio tours of museums that we’ve done before. He talked not only about the historical context of the art but also the technical aspects and even our emotional reactions to each piece. We really enjoyed the tour. You’d be lucky to have Max as a guide.

Excellent tour of Rijksmuseum. Erin, our guide, was very knowledgeable about both the history of the museum itself as well a wonderful guide to the art. We took the three hour tour, 90 minutes would not have been at all fair to the building or the art. Learning the Dutch art styles was great. I have been to the museum on my own several times. Alone I missed all the nuances. I strongly recommend Erin and her tour. She is very outgoing, an expert, and was very attentive to our needs. Lots to see, very nice having a good guide to focus us.
