Itinerary
The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Vatican Museums are visited by huge numbers of people each day, but with this handy Vatican tour—which includes priority access—bypass the worst of the crowds by entering with your guide through an exclusive entranceway.
The halls and rooms of the museum complex comprise miles of historic art and antiquities, but you go straight to the highlights, such as the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Pinecone Courtyard.
Continue to the Sistine Chapel, home of two of the most important frescoes of the Italian Renaissance. Learn about Michelangelo’s "The Last Judgement" and "The Creation of Adam" from outside the chapel (no talking inside), then head on in to admire the frescoes in person.
Follow your guide into St. Peter’s Basilica to see "La Pietà," another Michelangelo masterpiece, and learn about Bernini’s bronze altar. You can stay inside St. Peter’s Basilica after your tour ends, or head outside to St. Peter’s Square, where your tour ends.

Cosimo was the consummate professional, extremely knowledgeable about anything and everything pertaining to this tour, and made it a joy to attend! I tipped accordingly; thanks again, Cosimo!

This tour was so amazing. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable . Plus skipping the line is huge. We had best experience ever. Solid 5 stars experience! 👍👍👍👍🤞

Amazing experience with a knowledgeable tour guide! Truly felt immersed in this experience and she also made it personal. Would recommend to everyone!
Ashlee_D, May 2026
Really informative. I’ve been a long time ago and being with our guide was great. She was informative and easy to understand. Lots of knowledge! Would definitely go with this tour again!
Eugenia_P, May 2026
There is lot of walking involved but the Museum and the Sistine Chapel were both amazing, educational, historical and mesmerizing to see the great work of the one and only Michelangelo!!!
Marlene_M, May 2026
Our tour guide was amazing. Very knowledgeable and professional ! Our first time at the Vatican. This city is amazing ! So much history !
Russell_B, May 2026
You simply cannot visit the Vatican without a tour guide. The tour takes 3hrs and that time just flies. Our tour guide was Cosimo. He is warm, friendly, light-humoured and very knowledgeable. He took time explaining what I would call the essentials within the tour as it would be impossible to cover everything in detail. Wear comfy footwear!!!
Carl_T, May 2026
Laura was without a doubt fantastic. Information overload I loved her enthusiasm for the art and history. She pointed out so much you would miss without her knowledge. Wear good comfortable shoes and take water with you. To take it all in would be impossible but somehow Laura helped with a high proportion of it. Some of the sites are beyond words in their beauty

This was an excellent tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of info about everything we were seeing
Alicia_O, May 2026
The itinerary says "queue free" entry with no more than 5 minutes for entry. We waited in a 20-25 minute queue. And then the group had to wait for people to use the bathroom (immediately after the tour started, like go before you come to the tour!). Listened to almost 30 minute explanation of the Sistine Chapel. And then were rushed through the Vatican Museum (which was supposed to be an hour and 15 minutes) because we ended up only having about 30 minutes in the whole museum. Once we got to the end of the tour, we could stay in the Basilica as long as we wanted, which was cool, but I wanted more time in the museum, and there was no way to go back to it.

Hello Alicia_O,
Thank you for your feedback.
“Skip-the-line” entry at the Vatican Museums refers to bypassing the ticket lines, but all visitors must still go through mandatory security checks, which can take longer during busy periods.
The explanation before entering the Sistine Chapel is necessary since guides cannot speak once inside.
We understand you would have preferred more time in the museum itself and appreciate you sharing your comments.

We enjoyed our tour of the Vatican museum with Christian! He was so knowledgeable and friendly. He made sure that we all stood together and no one got lost despite the Vatican being overwhelmingly crowded. Actually, one lady in the group just up and left in the middle (with her headset) which was pretty inconsiderate. Another guy lost his entrance ticket in the 30 feet between getting it scanned and security and Christian had to do some magic to get him a pass to get through the 2nd ticket check.
Those snafus with our group notwithstanding, he was an excellent guide with a passion for the pieces in the museum. We visited on a Weds and I didn't notice on the booking that the papal audience was every Weds, so we didn't get to tour the Basilica, but once the Museum tour ended, the papal audience thing ended and we were able to book Basilica visit separately and go on our own - all the way up to the top of the dome! So didn't really lose anything going on Weds. All in all, a great, informative, exhausting trip.

Two things make a great guided tour - the guide and the group.
The guide was ok, but very unlucky with especially a few unfortunate representatives of the USA.
The ones who doesn't folow the group and guide, asks what they've missed while not with the group, so the rest had to wait while the guide told them the same thing we all had been told.
Folks who didn't read the info from the tour-company stating, that a passport was needed to enter......

Hi Thomas_R,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear the overall tour experience was positive, though we understand your frustration with delays caused by some guests not following the group instructions or arriving unprepared with the required documentation.
Our guides do their best to keep tours running smoothly while ensuring all guests are able to participate, and we appreciate your patience throughout the experience. Thank you again for joining us.

So much to see! Our guide did an excellent job pacing us and keeping it interesting while not bogging down. Very knowledgeable guide. Must see. Didn’t love the ear piece but was helpful at times
Joseph_L, May 2026
We got nice sits, close to the Pop and Matt was very knowledgeable. He told us many interesting things while waiting for Pope Leo.
Julie_S, May 2026
Laura was absolutely fantastic !!
Very knowledgeable and made the entire experience very enjoyable for us
Makenzie_N, May 2026
Alex was an incredible guide and very knowledgable of all sites/objects of the tour. I would not go to any of these places without a guide/group for the sake of getting to skip the long lines. Would recommend to our friends and fam that want to visit in the future.
AiPheng_T, May 2026
It was a wonderful and amazing tour. Every part was an eye opener for us. Leo, our guide was extremely informative and friendly. We enjoyed the tour alot. Highly recommend it to others.
Victoria_S, May 2026
Great experience with the tour, guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, however, skip the line does not mean no line. There is still waiting in lines involved.
Trenton_F, May 2026
Sarah was a great guide. Worth every cent! Highly recommend for any considering it. The skip the lines was great
Alissa_D, May 2026
Sylvia was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. She handled the crowds very well and we still were able to see everything we wanted too. We were very happy with this experience
jill_a, May 2026
We walked right in after a short line. The line for others without the tour was around the building and hours long.
Marie_S, May 2026
This tour is a must for those visiting the Vatican for the first time. I appreciate having a guide to highlight the important displays in the Vatican Museum and the Sistine chapel. Laura is a fantastic guide.
Timothy_M, May 2026
Very experienced guide provided a fantastic tour of the Vatican, the foundation and history of my faith.
Spencer_S, May 2026
This is by far the best way to see The Vatican in Rome. Rosella was a very good tour guide and very educated. She explained everything we saw in great detail and answered any questions. The ability to skip the line is also incredibly worth it. The crowds are insane and without it, you are standing in queue for the entire day before you even get into The Vatican.
John_L, May 2026
Cosimo was an excellent host/guide! So knowledgeable and helpful while keeping things moving and making it fun. Highly recommend the tour and Cosimo!
Christian_B, May 2026
Unfortunately the day we went was a Wednesday, and the Pope was addressing the city. St. Peter’s Basilica was shut down, so we couldn’t go. Instead we spent too long in the museums with a dragged out tour. Our tour guide spoke way too fast, repeated himself multiple times, and people in the group were visibly frustrated.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hi Christian_B,
Thank you for your feedback.
We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, particularly regarding the closure of St. Peter’s Basilica and the pacing of the tour. Please note that potential closures due to events such as Papal audiences are communicated in advance on our website and in your voucher, as these are outside of our control.
We are also concerned to hear your comments about the guide. Please contact us directly at City Wonders with your booking details so we can investigate this matter further and address your concerns appropriately.
We look forward to assisting you.
DougLisa_P, May 2026
Skipping the line was great, but could have done that just to get in quickly for much less money. For the amount of money we paid, I had expected an indepth explanation of the background of the Vatican (construction, identification of important popes, historical connections) that are helpful to a non-Catholic. Instead, our pleasant and friendly guide made silly, somewhat juvenile jokes (especially focused in the penis on the statuary) and had little true explanationof what we were seeing. Her accented English was a bit difficult to follow. Overall, we are big fans of Viator, but this one missed the mark. For $100 I would have been far less disappointed. Match the price with the quality.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hi DougLisa_P,
Thank you for your feedback.
We’re pleased to hear you appreciated the priority entry to the Vatican Museums, though we’re sorry the guiding style did not meet your expectations.
Our tours are designed to provide an engaging and accessible experience for a wide range of guests, but we understand that some visitors are looking for a more in-depth historical and religious focus. We also regret that aspects of the commentary and communication style were not to your preference.
We appreciate your comments regarding the overall value of the experience and will share your feedback with our team for review.
Gabe_F, May 2026
We had an excellent experience on the tour. Maria Sophia was relaxed, organized and charming. She also gave us an approachable but thorough explanation of the Chapel art, Michaelangelo's career, and the significance of the Basilica. We were very satisfied. The trip company was also well organized and efficient.
Michelle_L, May 2026
This is a very busy place. More people than you may be ready for. But absolutely an experience. The beauty is unreal.
Keith_T, May 2026
Well organized tour…our tour guide was exceptional, knowledgeable, and respectful to his group of 16.
Would highly recommended this tour to anyone.
