Mild to Wild Rafting in Castle Valley: The Chillest Dadventure Chapter Yet
When your "Dadventure" schedule already includes death-defying swings and sunrise balloon flights, you figure it’s time to slow things down with a gentle float down the Colorado River. Smart move.
Mild to Wild nailed it. We drifted through Castle Valley like we were in a nature documentary, except with better snacks and zero risk of getting eaten by wildlife. The red rock towers looming over us were absolutely ridiculous — like someone gave Mother Nature a box of Legos and told her to go big. Every bend in the river brought another “whoa” moment.
Our guide, Tom, was the MVP of the day. The man knows his stuff. He kept us laughing while dropping nonstop facts about Moab’s geology, the river’s history, and why those giant rock formations look like they were designed by a very ambitious alien. Zero boring lecture vibes — just perfect mix of funny stories and cool info that actually stuck.
It was the ideal Dadventure breather: peaceful, scenic, and just floaty enough to make us feel like we earned a nap. No screaming, no white knuckles, just good conversation, epic views, and quality father-daughter time on the water.
If you’re in Moab and need a break from the adrenaline stuff, book this trip. Mild to Wild and Tom made it effortless and memorable.
10/10. Would drift again (probably right after the next Moab swing… once my heart rate recovers). 🛶🏞️😂

Chance and KJ were...
Chance and KJ were fantastic! KJ was a great river guide and extremely accommodating. He was super knowledgeable about Moab’s ecosystems and rock formations, and they both had such great insights into the area. The river rafting was fun and easy, and the water felt great when we took a quick dip! Highly recommend booking this experience.

Absolutely great raft trip in every way…
Experienced and thoughtful guides really made this gorgeous raft trip special. We were driven to the launch site and our driver Warren and guide Michelle shared unique information about the area. This includes geography, hiking trail heads, Blue Heron nesting rookery grounds, scenic drives, so helpful. The group was offered the chose to go down the river on Ducky’s or in the raft. We were the only ones that chose the Ducky (a blow up tandem kayak).
Michelle gave an informative safety talk which we appreciated. We are boaters our selves and while we are familiar with the Salish Sea in the Pacific NW waters, we are new to river rafting and it is different and important to know these safety items.
Nate an other guide took the single Ducky and gave us great instructions before each rapid. (All around Class 1-2.5 ish). The first rapid , first waves was a little intimidating, but we did fine, followed instructions and had a great time. Nate was encouraging and bolstered our paddling with positive feedback. He was always aware of where we were so we felt, well cared for and safe. We did the full day trip, about 12 miles of paddling down river. We would definitely recommend this option if you want a little more adventure a little more splash. By the way we are 68 yrs old, so the Ducky’s are not only for the younger people.
Michelle said we may see Blue Heron and it might be fun to count how many we saw, I took her up on the suggestion. My esta-count was 12 Blue heron, 2 Bald Eagles, one was in the nest, and 2 Osprey and we heard many other birds.
So beautiful, the Colorado River in this area is surrounded by amazing red rock cliffs, every turn was a feast for the eyes!! Speaking of feasts, lunch was very nice with chips, pasta salad, chicken Caesar Salad wraps, veggies, and lots of snacks to take along.
We highly recommend NavTech Expeditions.

Great Day...Great Guide
Really enjoyed the back country tour and all the insight we gained from Ron. The views were simply amazing and it was nice to get away from all the crowds. Ron is very knowledgeable with a low key personality and very accommodating. We deeply enjoyed the day.

Best ever experience
Second time doing this activity and it was even the better second time around - our guide was Clint and he was sooo good - instructions were really clear - and we had lots of time on the tour due to us being a small group and everyone having experience of driving UTV’s. Was first time for my friend as a passenger and she absolutely loved it albeit nervous at the start. I absolutely love the driving - such a buzz and could have stayed out there all day. It will be on my lost to do if ever come back again and I hope I will

See Arches away from the crowds. Amazing views!
Great experience! Our guide Seth had extensive knowledge of the geological history which he shared in an interesting manner. He took us to sites that less than 1% of visitors get to see. We enjoyed arches away from the crowds and took some amazing photos. Highly recommend this tour!

Such a great 1/2 day on...
Such a great 1/2 day on the Colorado River! It was chill but fun. Adam entertained us while Kendall rowed us along. While we helped her row some, we thought we’d participate more. Later I learned that she doesn’t like to make her guests “work”… so if you want to row more, maybe mention it to your guide.

Family friendly river trip
Very well put together trip. The river was a chill float with a few fun rapid sections. A great family atmosphere. The guide (Will) was smart about the history of where we went and made a it a good time. I highly recommend doing this while visiting Moab.

Best way to see Canyonlands with the best tour company
An excellent way to see Canyonlands- the morning tour took us through the back country, including a thrilling ride up Shaffer Canyon. Our guide, John, had so much experience & knowledge that he shared with us most enthusiastically- he really made the trip! The afternoon rafting trip was very beautiful & quite peaceful. Our guide, Eli, was an absolute delight! A very experienced river guide, full of local knowledge- scientific & cultural- & extremely willing to make sure his guests enjoyed the trip. Highly recommend Navtec & their special guides.

Great day on the Colorado
A fun day riding down the Colorado stopping for lunch on the shore. Our guide Hunter was fabulous! His knowledge of the river was awesome and he made sure we all had a great time. Suggest beach shoes, sunblock and hat with strap - and you will get a bit wet! So fun!

Lots of drive time
The whitewater part is maybe only 40 min but the drive there and back is about 3 hours total. There is plenty of other time on fairly flat river but the views and eagles and heron was great. Will was a great guide and did all the rowing / steering so if you want to paddle be sure to ask about it. Lunch was awesome!
