This was a lovely little tour of the temple and Akira was very kind and respectful, and provided just the right amount of cultural and historical context without going too deep into details. He was able to answer all of our questions to our satisfaction, and we enjoyed his sense of humor. He also kindly pointed out nearby restaurants where we could enjoy a vegan meal. Note: this is a great place to get your souvenir shopping done. We wished we had spent more time shopping for authentic Japanese items in this area - since we only visited a few neighborhoods on our Tokyo trip, and Asakusa had by far the best shopping with the most variety.

Consider the Weather for this Walking Tour

Very interesting tour, however, the weather was too hot and unbearable. The guide was excellent. Three other guests left the tour after one hour because of the heat. The meeting point should be described as between the subject gate and Starbucks. The current description is confusing and I got conflicting information on the meeting point from Google Maps and the Viator site.

Perfect day in Tokyo

I had a great day with Renaud! He is a very interesting guy and despite being from France, is fluent in Japanese and knows the culture and customs of Japan better than most Japanese people. He can customize the tour to include just about any important sites to the itinerary, so do a little research before to ensure you make it the best day possible for what you want to see. I am a history professor by trade and he was very good about pointing out details about our stops that he knew I’d like relating to Tokyo’s unique history. There are many options for tours out there but this is the one you should take if you really want the true local experience. Renaud has lived in Japan for two decades and designed this tour to be perfect and highlight the very best things to see in Tokyo. Don’t waste your time, just book this tour and be done with it. You won’t regret it!

Definitely do this tour of Shibuya and the hidden streets!

It was a really amazing tour, we learned a lot about the City that we would have never known thanks to Nikki. She shared a lot of insight about the daily life of students in this district and shared many suggestions on where to eat or go to get the full Shibuya experience. She has incredible knowledge of the Japanese culture and together with her European roots, humor, and knowledge of Tokyo culture she is well versed to guide tourists through town. Yuki was fantastic! I booked my tour for a Tuesday afternoon and ended up being the only person for that time. Yuki treated me like a VIP and gave me a great experience! He started at our meeting point telling me about the Shinjuku station and how much the area has been built up since before the 50s to now. Every detail was so interesting! This is my first time in Japan and I stepped out of my comfort zone signing up to do this tour by myself. Yuki made me feel so comfortable and I felt like I was walking around with a friend, not a tour guide. We laughed and joked the whole time. He answered all my questions. When we went to a shrine in the area, he told me what each area was for. When I asked if I could wish/pray at one of the areas, he was more than happy to help me do it right. From cleansing myself with the water, to providing me with a coin, and showing me how to bow and clap properly. It was a beautiful experience. If you’re in Shinjuku or the surrounding areas do yourself a favor and book this tour! Thank you Yuki for being so welcoming and being such an amazing part of my first trip to Japan.

Incredible day exploring local gems with our fantastic guide!

Toshi is the best! So knowledgeable, friendly, and showed us things we would have never seen had we planned the day ourselves. I just put topics of interest like “culture, food, non touristy things” and he hand picked an unforgettable day. As a bonus, he stayed for extra time so that we could explore his local neighborhood which was having their annual shrine festival. He helped us with ordering food, navigating the things to do, and showed us places locals go to pray/give thanks. We will miss him as much as we will miss this beautiful country!!

Authentic Tokyo food experience!

* The Shinjuku food tour was the perfect way to start my trip to Tokyo. I truly felt like we visited authentic shops and had a great variety of food. There’s a decent amount of walking, but the guide Yuta did an amazing job of pacing so the group stayed together as we had a big variation in ages. We took routes to places that jhad us in the back alleys, and unique spaces that give Tokyo it’s character and charm. I felt like this was truly an authentic food tasting experience and highly recommend! If you have a strict diet or aren’t comfortable stepping out of your food zone, this may not be the tour for you, but if you’re adventurous, curious about the world’s best food city, and want to experience food like the locals do, this is perfect for you!
