You will experience the spirit and karma of Iai Heiho, an ancient martial art that has been handed down for over 500 years since the Muromachi Period, in a fun and safe way. The sword used is a mock sword. Kimonos and hakama are available for those who wish to wear them. However, there are size and quantity restrictions. Yari (spear) and naginata (halberd) are also available. The instructor has 37 years of martial arts training and 30 years of teaching experience. He currently holds the rank of Hanshi 8-dan. He strives to teach in an easy-to-understand and polite manner. In recent years, the teachings of Zen meditation (zazen) have become increasingly well-known around the world. However, there are surprisingly few places where one can experience authentic zazen. This activity offers a true digital detox and Zen experience—an immersive overnight stay at Shogakuji Temple, a Soto Zen temple nestled deep in the mountains about two hours from Tokyo. Over the course of two days and one night, participants can fully engage in traditional Soto Zen practices surrounded by rich natural beauty. During your stay, you’ll follow the same practices as Zen monks: sitting meditation (zazen), sutra copying (shakyō), and enjoying tenzo ryōri, traditional vegetarian temple cuisine.
