Cool Insights on a Hot Milan Day
My tour was exceptionally informative and wonderfully rich. Our guide, Sara Nuzzi, was immensely knowledgeable about every stop on the itinerary — so much so that I decided to take the extended tour, which included a memorable walk from Santa Maria delle Grazie to Sforza Castle, La Scala Theatre, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and the Duomo. There wasn’t a single question she couldn’t answer, and I asked more than my share.
Standing in the refectory among two Da Vinci frescoes was unforgettable. Hearing not only how and when these masterpieces were created, but also learning about the extraordinary 20th‑century conservation led by Pinin Brambilla Barcilon (1925–2020) added a profound dimension to the experience. Barcilon — born in Monza and internationally respected for her scientific, meticulous approach — was one of Italy’s foremost experts in Renaissance mural restoration.
Her work on The Last Supper began in 1977, when the mural was so heavily overpainted and damaged that she initially questioned how much of Leonardo’s original surface remained. Over 21 years, she removed centuries of added paint using ultra‑delicate methods (including Japanese paper), stabilized the fragile wall, and recovered Leonardo’s authentic forms and expressions. Her restoration is widely regarded as the most respectful and successful conservation the mural has ever received.
Today, visitors can see The Last Supper with clarity because of Barcilon’s dedication, precision, and insistence on scientific rigor — including the careful use of X‑rays and diagnostic imaging to distinguish original pigment from later additions. Her work set a new standard for modern mural conservation and ensured that Leonardo’s masterpiece survives for future generations.

A 5⭐️ tour, thanks to Sylvia, our guide.
A 36 degrees + day isn’t the best for a 6 hour Milan walk but SO glad we took this tour. It was wonderful, thanks mainly to Sylvia our guide. She was absolutely exemplary. 👏👏👏. Kind, patient, clear, knowledgeable and so thoughtful, trying to always keep us in the shade where possible. We learned far more about Milan and its attractions than we ever would have on our own. The Duomo and Last Supper were clear highlights and the San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore was a surprise delight. A 5 ⭐️ tour.

If you only have a few hours and want to see all of Milan, THIS IS THE TOUR FOR YOU!!
We have taken MANY Viator tours. While this tour was spectacular and well worth the time and expense, it is very long (and terribly hot in July). I feel potential participants should realize the amount of walking is more than what you may be expecting. Our tour guide was absolutely amazing! We are still marveling at her knowledge of Milan and ability to communicate is a different language. Alisa was, by far, one of the most exceptional guides we have ever had with Viator. We learned so much about her beautiful city, Milan!

Best of Milan and Last Supper and Duomo de Milano tour
There is considerable walking involved in this tour and a ride on a trolley. Christina, our tour guide passed out radio headsets and earbuds so we could very clearly hear and understand her excellent narrative of each of the points of interest. We had approximately 15 persons in our group. Christina was extremely well spoken in English and Italian. She was very knowledgeable of the points of interest and was very pleasant in her presentation.

Beautiful Views
Thank you, Daniel! We had a great experience! You were well organized, efficient, and made everything run seamlessly. We loved the architectural details and the beautiful rooftop views. Exploring the Cathedral was definitely worth it! I highly recommend this tour.

One of the best food experiences
Our guide Marco went out of his way to make this experience memorable. I was grateful to him for providing the assistance for me to navigating the Milan metro system to reach our central meeting point. The food & venue selections on this tour were amazing. Small tucked away family businesses who provided delicious authentic food, that was enjoyed by all the group. Marco also pointed out & provided commentary on various buildings as we passed. His knowledge of the city and his recommendations of places to shop & dine were greatly appreciated by all.

Good food and good information
Our guide was knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. He didn’t just take us from place to place—he shared stories about the city's history and the cultural influences. The portions were generous, and there was a balance of savory and sweet.
I highly recommend this food tour to anyone who wants to explore beyond the typical tourist attractions and experience authentic local flavors.

Food and fun, what can be better?
Great afternoon with a terrific guide, Armando. He not only took us for authentic northern Italian treats, he shared the local history and sites along the way. We lucked out and were joined by a mix of a fun and interesting people from all over the world and enjoyed their stories over wine and charcuterie, yummy chocolate and the painstaking decision of which gelato flavor to get. A great way to see Milan and meet new friends. Come hungry and expect the unexpected from the fried pizza!
