Vatican museums & Sistine Chapel

ANN_L, Apr 2026
The 3 lane queuing system for pre booked tickets was very disjointed & quite unorganised. People exiting were having to walk through the area where people were milling about waiting to ask where they should go to wait. If people were too early they were told just to wait to the side causing more people just waiting in the area. Once the queue started to move, it was really pretty smooth going inside. The directional signage was easy to follow. Be mindful that it took almost 3 hours from start to finish to go through the museums & The Sistine Chapel. Some stairs were steep but there are lifts (although we never used these). There are plentiful gift shops if you choose to purchase gifts. I would recommend pre book ‘skip the line’ tickets otherwise non pre book people waited in a very long queue to enter. This would be hard when the weather is very hot & iwe found it warm inside the museums. Take a form of ID with you as this is asked for before any bags/phones etc go through an X-ray machine similar to airport security. I would say one thing that is missing is there are few resting areas to take the weight off your feet, otherwise almost 3 hours waiting/standing/ walking is a lot especially when it is hot

Spent lots of money to buy many tickets from you online, felt be cheated

Whitney_K, Apr 2026
When I bought the ticket online, you didn't give me meeting point, but gave me eticket for entry. But Vatican Museum doesn't accept it and said it was only a coupon. I need to use the coupon to get the real ticket. But you didn't give me the meeting point and gave me the eticket for entry. I had to join the long line to buy the ticket again. You need to reimburse my money.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

You did not read the voucher saying the tickets are delivered via whatsapp or email. Your tickets were all delivered via whatsapp, you only had to use that. No one cheats on official platforms like Viator.

Screenshot of tickets do not work must be original

Kimberly_R, Mar 2026
I preferred this was - the actual tickets was sent so there was no meet up point like other tour groups. However I took a screenshot if the thicket which was sent via WhatsApp and It would not work. Had to only show the original pdf.

Don't spend the money on these tickets. Not worth the value

Trisha_F, Jan 2026
We did not get to skip the line. The staff made us go to the back of the line. When we got in there the sistine chapel was closed that day and that was the only thing we really cared about seeing and why we bought the tickets. This was not worth spending the money and VIATOR has a Strict no refund policy. Buyer Beware!!!

Visiting Rome, the Vatican by queuing for such a long time is terribly unpleasant. Not to be recommended or renewed.

Nicola_E, Jan 2026
Very unpleasant experience summed up in a few words: queuing, queuing and queuing and the. walking in a massive crowd which prevents you from seeing things. 🤮

A Rome Highlight

John_K, Jan 2026
This tour was a highlight on our family trip to Rome. We had a great time, learned a ton, and our guide Marcello was a pro!

another option to get tickets to Vatican museum

It's hard to find the entrance. I only noticed the Google Maps link via WhatsApp later. Pay attention to the link!

Marialuz_Q, Oct 2025
It was good but tiring especially the Sistine chapel, especially exiting, we have to take the spiral staircase and it’s so long but it’s beautiful.

People everywhere

Belinda_M, Oct 2025
So many people! We were booked in for 13:30 arrived across bridge around 12. Then met with a sea of people every where. We were unsure where to go as assumed we would walk up St Peter’s square and in but no. You have to hang right and head all the way round the outside to the museum. Our tickets let us skip most of the queues but when you get outside the museum there is no real order to the queues due to food vendors in the way. I think we skipped a fair line buy just joining a queue that left a gap. We were allowed in early as queue was so big. Not sure if that is recommended though, go near your time and slow a 25minute window. Impressive sistine chapel but the rest wasn’t that exciting for us. Busy areas, no real clue where to go and poor signage.

Overpriced misrepresentations!

James_R, Oct 2025
You don’t skip any lines. We waited for hours to get in, and were hassled by the Vatican Museum staff about the legitimacy of our tickets. You also charged two and a half times more than they actually cost.

Over priced

Paddy_B, Oct 2025
The tickets will eventually show up in WhatsApp prior to your scheduled time. You should be dropped off at the museum main entrance. We did not follow the map given with the ticket (for an additional 1.5 hr walk) and entered there through the main line. It moves fairly quick. Going through the Vatican to get to the Sistine Chapel takes a long time, it’s a maze with no direct route. With that said, the marble statues and rooms visited are stunning. However, unless these are the only tickets available, I would choose another route, as they are just way over priced basic entry tickets.

Vatican museum tour! Check your tickets!!

Gina_M, Oct 2025
It took a bit of time to get the tickets to come through. It wasn't working via email so we needed to get WhatsApp make sure you have that just in case, once we downloaded that we were able to reach the tour company and get the tickets. We arrived an hour early in case of issues like this. The guards at security weren't a huge help so know before you go. We went to the museum entrance side to go to the line area. At the scheduled time the skip the line "line" opened and we walked right in. The instructions were very clear from there. Your was two hours and very informative our guide was awesome! After the tour we grabbed a snack at the cafeteria then wandering the museum for a while before leaving.

Family trip

Phil_R, Oct 2025
Great tour guide, loved the information provided during our time with him and at an easy pace to enjoy.

Highly recommend

Clare_M, Oct 2025
Our guide, Romina, was wonderful - kept us all in the loop in incredibly busy areas, was so knowledgeable and very attentive and easy to listen to! Very very enjoyable! Thank you :)

Super good company to go with!!

Kevin_W, Sep 2025
Super good company to book with. - everything smooth and easy, electronic tickets, always follow up in a timely manner.

Buyer beware!!

Anthony_M, Sep 2025
Go as early as possible to beat the crowds. I had booked at 8:30 AM reservation through Viator & and it got canceled by the Tour group 15 minutes prior to our reservation. We had to rebook and weren’t able to get in until 10 AM and we were packed in there like sardines. Not the experience I had hoped for.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

As it is the busy season of Jubilee, Vatican is expected to be packed all year. All customers are requested to be mentally ready for it.

Vatican nightmare

Patricia_C, Sep 2025
Bought the Skip-the-line excursion. Still waited in line and had to go through 2 checkpoints to scan tickets and also security check. Waaaay too many people. Could hardly see anything. In Sistine Chapel, have to shuffle through shoulder-to-shoulder in some tight spaces. No opportunity to exit or go to another area. So many tour groups blocking the way. I think there should be a limit to how many people are let in. It was insane!

Give it a miss and google the art!

Suzanne_B, Sep 2025
Can’t fault the booking, easy to do and self guided tour. However be warned! This is a massive money making scheme for the catholic church. Entry is in huge lines every 30 minutes. The place is so packed you can hardly see anything and you’re ushered round like cattle. No aircon anywhere so not only are you squeezed in like sardines you also melt! If it was less busy and we were able to spend more time looking it would be a great place to see. We’ve done other museums that are not at all like this (including the Louvre) Took what snaps I could and high tailed out. The Sistine chapel is no photography allowed and is the most packed square I’ve been in.

Great experience

Nancy_S, Aug 2025
The tour was fine no issues. You will skip the line to purchase tickets but will still have to make a Que for entrance. We stood on line for about 20 mins before getting ushered in. Your ticket will have the line number on it. People were confused as to which line to get on, Vatican museum staff were not explaining, just pointing for people to go here or go there so just pay attention to your line number, there’s 3 lines. Vatican museum is huge, you will do a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes, light clothing in the summer. There’s an opportunity to sit in the courtyard and relax for a bit if you choose. Sistine chapel is the last area you will visit. No exposed shoulders, hats, short shorts/dresses in the Sistine chapel. Lots of beautiful artwork and ancient artifacts. Must do atleast once in your lifetime.

No help!

Felice_R, Aug 2025
Unfortunately I booked no refundable tickets. My daughters got sick and we couldn’t make it. I chatted with a person and asked not for a refund but a possible later date or just a credit to just be able to see the Vatican. They where unwilling and $300 euro lost to there company. Beware of the non refundable since you can’t get your money back or even a later time/dare/credit. Will never use this company and app has been deleted. Bad customer service. Shame on you

Jessica_R, Jul 2025
It was a great experience but I could have bought my own ticket for 27 euros. I over paid for this event. It was a nice tour and there is no tour guide so you are on ur own which is good. The price is cheaper at the museum.

Easy and quick way to get into the vatican

Carrie_L, Jul 2025
The instructions were clear however messages jumped between emails and whatsapp which was a little confusing. Everthing ran very smoothly and on time, I would recommend jumping the queue as the queue for the turn up and wait was quite long and it was very hot

Tiffini_B, Jul 2025
We enjoyed the museum, had no idea how long it was, and would probably opt for entering at the midway point to get more directly to the Sistine Chapel itself given the crowds and the heat. The audio tour was insightful and we had no problem with the tickets. It was an experience of a lifetime to see the beautiful artwork and such an iconic site.

Our guide Maria was great. Highly recommend tour of St Peters to fully understand the history and relevance.

Thanks a lot.

Not worth it

Cassidy_B, Jul 2025
Was fine and I guess whilst in Rome you may as well but in my opinion for the price it is not worth it.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

We are sorry to hear that, apparently it’s a dream for all Catholics to visit the Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel in the Jubilee year.

Okay tickets, terrible timing, disappointing

Corinna_M, Jun 2025
Apparently it’s a Jubilee Year, which to a Non-Catholic means way too many people. We could barely moved around the various tour groups. We wanted to see the Sistine Chapel but were required to snake through several museums first. They were decent enough museums, but with inpatient children in tow and only a half day, it was extremely frustrating and aggravating. I feel like I didn’t really get to see the Vatican and we ran out of time to find even the outside of St. Peter’s Basilica. And we went at the beginning of the “off-season”. If you’re going to do this trip, you need an entire day, from earlier in the morning until evening. The line was mostly easy to find, but once in the museum, we wasted a lot of time not knowing we had to go through the museums to get anywhere.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

You are right, as it is Jubilee year the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel can be a little overwhelming for some people as it is a significant religious site and the event Jubilee happens once every 25 years. We suggest all customers to expect crowd throughout this whole year.

Extremely Professional

These guys are legit. Great communication and super easy to deal with. Would definitely recommend. You do need WhatsApp to contact them

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Great!

Ashley_T, Jun 2025
Such a beautiful tour! But be prepared to walk for miles. The Vatican is huge! Wear comfortable shoes. And in hot weather, bring plenty of water with you! Arrive at your scheduled time. They won’t let you in any earlier during the busy season.
