We were charged for a tour in Italian language but we don’t speak Italian. I don’t recall ever even requesting a tour guide. I simply wanted to skip the line.
I don’t believe Viator is fully to blame. It seems to be a problem with the actual tour company. Perhaps Viator has some links to work out.

The gave me skip the line .Great but it said the tour was in latin. When I got there they said the only way to have English was with headphones only. No tour guide. It was hard to follow. Finally just gave up
Diana_f, Jun 2026
I was booked with a french translator which do not believe I booked. We had nine people so we couldn’t get an English translator last minute. Still paid full price for the tour however.

Everything was simple and easy. The employee at the place was fast and efficient and got us on our way. The only reason, the only reason, i gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the harassing notifications to leave a review while I'm still on vacation.

I am not sure that the price is decent. Real price is twice cheaper. I think its not fair to charge so much for just a ticket

Other than changing the time on us last minute, everything was good

We really enjoyed our visit to the Vatican. Walking through the museums and seeing all the artwork, sculptures, and historic pieces was incredible. The skip‑the‑line access worked perfectly and helped us get in very quickly, which we appreciated.
The only downside was that a tour language was assigned to us without the option to choose. Once we were inside, we realized our “guide” didn’t match our preferred language, which made that part of the experience a bit difficult.
Aside from that, everything else was wonderful and absolutely worth visiting. The beauty and history throughout the Vatican are unforgettable.

The tour company made a mistake and give us Italian speaking audio instead of English. At the Vatican they change us extra to change it to English.
Judy_D, Jun 2026
It was good but a week before my trip you canceled my tour, which made me scrambled to try to reschedule, but didn’t get the same tour and wanted to charge me more. Wasn’t happy about that..

Never takes reservations with viator. They gave us italian speaker for group we are from Us no english at all by guide
Denis_Q, Jun 2026
Need to book skip the line. If you don’t will be waiting hours. We did not have a guide. Probably should get one
Ernest_V, Jun 2026
They changed my time without notice the guide was very good skip t he line w a s slow took over an hour to get in
Ervin_a, Jun 2026
We are American, paid for self guided tour. We were given vouchers for an Italian guided tour. All we could utilize from our booking was the entrance tickets.

The experience with ticket sales was very easy. Important thing to keep in mind is that tickets are not sent electronically and with our experience you needed to go to another location to retrieve tickets. Both pick up locations were not easy to find. We were looking for a Viator sign which did not exist, and the tickets are sold by a third party company. Not a big deal but if you are tight on time, this can cause an added delay. Not very convenient.

There was a change to our entry time, but was notified the day before via the Viator app but not told via Whatsapp or texting like other companies such as CityWonders did. The message did not give any choices at that time for a refund since the time was changed. However, the actual tour company Premium City Tours did not communicate via WhatsApp and texting like other companies did days prior to the tour. We realized the time change 5 minutes before the new scheduled time when they finally called use via Whatapp. We already had another tour scheduled for the earlier part of the day so it was difficult to try and make it to rescheduled one. We did try however but there is a strict time frame for entering the Vatican Museum. Viator and Premium City Tours would not agree to a refund when we initially called. I signed up for a specific time and it should not have been changed without giving us valid options well in advance.
So even though I am putting recommending this tour, I do not recommend it through Premium City Tours under Viator.

All went as it was supposed to. We skipped the line and got right into our tour. My only issue is having to go to a separate place to pick up the tickets. We were short on time (of course) and having to locate the “meeting place” was an additional layer that could have been avoided by emailing the tickets, in my opinion. I do not understand the reasons behind the process but going to the meeting location seemed like an additional layer chaos to the experience. That said, choosing and booking the experience was easy.

It was great walking right past the giant line. We were also upgraded and had a museum group guide. The museum was very crowded but our guide was efficient at moving us through the masses and explaining what we were looking at.

If you are seeing the Vatican for a second time and prefer to do it independently Highly recommend! Very easy access and ticket pick up, excellent service!

These ‘tour providers’ are an absolute scam!!! They charged my husband and I 165 euros for what we thought was a tour. Turned out it was just the ‘skip the line’ tickets you can get directly from the Vatican website for 25 euro (it’s exactly the price that was written on the paper ticket that they handed us). They basically paid 25 euro per ticket and re sold the ticket to us for triple the price.
When we complained and ask for a partial refund (we were happy to pay the 50 euro, but come on, give us back the 115 back), we got an automated message back 2 minutes later saying ‘that they reviewed out complaint and there was nothing they could do’. Clearly this is something that occurs frequently to them if that automated message came through so quickly.
Do yourselves favour and just go straight to the Vatican website and buy the ticket through there for 1/3 of the price!

Highly recommend using this type of option to skip the line and go at your own pace. Use the provided meeting spot information otherwise you will be walking an extra mile or so back and forth if you just use Vatican museum as your location. The line without tickets is hours long so this option was worth it to us. Just a heads up once inside portions of the museum you do get kind of stuck in groups of tours so just pay attention so you can navigate around them. We were in and out in about 2 hours but you could literally spend the whole day here.

This started very frustrating. We booked for 1130 English tour and they moved us to 1230 Italian tour. They were very rude about it. This messed up our timing for the whole day. Fortunately the Vatican staff was nice enough to move us to an English tour. Now regarding the tour, first it is very crowded and hard to stay with your group. The art and information is overwhelming. There is a lot to take in. You could spend days going through all of the art. The Sistine Chapel is overrated. Yes the painted ceiling is amazing but it is so crowded that you can't take it in and after walking through everything for 2 hours, we just wanted fresh air and that was still a lot of walking to get outside.

Myself and 2 children age 13 & 11 did this experience with a guided tour. We booked skip the line tickets. It was amazing and we had no issues with our booking.
You can get tickets cheaper by booking through the official site but they sell out quickly ( I missed out ).
Jane_M, Jun 2026
You pick up your tickets 1 mile away which was very misleading. Not happy this was not at all what I had anticipated for the price
Samantha_P, Jun 2026
The museums and Sistine Chapel are beautiful but far too busy. If you are trying to go through at your own pace, beware that you will get stuck behind lots of tour groups so sometimes you have to wait to explore some of the exhibits. The Sistine Chapel was far too crowded and so loud. We only managed 5 minutes in there so couldn’t really take it all in. I would recommend doing this activity for a first timer but be prepared for lots of waiting around
Christine_P, Jun 2026
They cancelled our scheduled and paid tour less than 24 hours notice. They sell more tickets than they have. Very unorganized they changed another couples scheduled.
John_M, Jun 2026
The experience did not start well. I thought I was lucky to get tickets online 30 minutes before the start time only to discover that when I went to get my tickets for 12:30 that they had closed that. The staff was very helpful and were able to get us tickets for 2:30. The lesson I have learned in my first Italty trip is to always book well in advance in Rome.Be prepared for a lot of walking and there are no shortcuts to get to the actual Sistene Chapel so just enjoy the journey.
Pam_R, Jun 2026
The Vatican is extremely crowded and long lines! Get the skip the line pass! Worth the visit - get headphones when you go in.
Jesse_K, Jun 2026
Outside the Vatican is very crowded and absolute chaos. Viator gives you a very generic meeting place that is not clear on where to meet. I never found the actual group. Nothing about my purchase was "skip the line" and they didn't send me the tickets until 15minutes after my start time, then stopped all communication with me. Terrible organization almost walked away from the entire experience. Shame that these 3rd party sites buying up all the tickets marking up the price, and then offering a frustrating and anxiety inducing experience.
Simone_F, Jun 2026
Unfortunately, Viator changed the time of my booking at very short notice. My original ticket was for 14:30, but the day before they moved it to 13:00, which was unfair as I already had plans. I asked to move my ticket to the next day due to the inconvenience and because I was feeling unwell, but they were unable to accommodate this.
I then decided to attend at the original time 14.30pm as that's what I paid for, but I was still turned away. Overall, it wasn’t a good experience and I wouldn’t recommend Viator.
Saba_A, Jun 2026
Skip the line tickets made it very convenient for us to enter without having to wait in long queues for the tickets. However, last minute change in the timing of our tour, was inconvenient. Also if someone from the company had met us closer to Vatican museums, it would have saved us a lot of time and effort.
