We joined three different aurora tours during our stay in Tromsø, and our tour with Alen stood out as one of the best. Forecasts had initially suggested KP 4 activity, but it dropped to KP 1 just an hour before the tour started, which likely explains why the tour was delayed and began at 8PM.
Despite the less favorable conditions, Alen made the effort to drive us deep into Finland to avoid cloud cover, and we were still rewarded with clear views and photos of a KP1 aurora. His dedication really made the difference.
He ensured everyone was comfortable throughout, and even after a long night, dropped us back at the hotel slightly after 4AM. The tea was a thoughtful touch, and the Mesterbakeren blueberry pound cake—though simple—was surprisingly enjoyable.
Overall, a very well-run experience. Alen is a capable and committed guide, and we would definitely recommend this tour.

We were very excited to take this tour. Our tour guide George was very friendly and gave us many facts about the Northern Lights (although not 100% they were all right...).
He chose a spot 40 mins away from Tromso and we didn't move the whole evening. The reason was that George believed this would be the best place to see them. It was pretty cloudy, but shortly we started to see the Northern Lights. Weak at the beginning, we managed to see a purple/nitrogen one, and right before we left, we saw the most amazing lights show ever! Multiple Northern Lights crossing the sky and dancing. It took 6ish hours but 100% worth it, trust the process and George.
Throughout the evening, we had a bonfire with cake, and George also took professional pics that he shared after with us.
Be aware there aren't any toilets, so you'll need to go before the tour.
Thank you, George!

Amazing tour and experience! George was an expert and passionate about chasing the northern lights. He took us to clear skies away from the city and we had a wonderful experience viewing the lights. George helped me with the tripod and camera settings which was really appreciated and also took photos of us with his camera. We enjoyed the snacks and drinks provided and the campfire. Thank you George!

First thing to mention is to make sure you have plenty of time for this. We were fine with a long hunt but another couple who had a morning flight to catch was getting nervous about the return time.
We had a prompt pickup outside the ice bar in Tromsø. The full 18 person minibus was cozy but adequate. Thermal suits were stored iabove the seats but no one used them. Our guide and driver Alain mentioned we’d be out for 6 hours as we head to Finland to find clear skies. At first we had low expectations with snow blowing sideways in Tromsø. It only got worse on the road. We even passed a couple of wrecks on the road. But Alain was a man on a mission… he was doggedly determined to find clear skies and good viewing.
After about 3.5 hours driving we found a clear patch and got our first glimpse of the lights. Alain took portraits for everyone. After a few minutes Alain estimated we could find more clear skies further along and we pushed on. At the next stop he set a camp fire and passed out snacks. People could sit in the coach to rest or warm up. We had a couple hours to view the lights and watch them evolve. Eventually they calmed down and we headed back. He did manage to spot one more opportunity on the way back. All in arrived back after a total of almost 12 hours! Much longer than expected but it was successful and we were happy. Despite the weather and the wrecks we felt safe with Alain’s driving. We appreciate his determination to keep pushing-on until we accomplished our mission.
Notes: We did a toilet stop at a gas station about 1.5 hours in and again at the same place on the way back. After that it was pretty much wilderness area. Most of the viewing stops were little more than a turn out on the side of the road. You could t stray too far due to deep snow. You spend a lot of time in the dark with your back to the road. HI-viz gear could be useful.
In the end the auroral activity and weather are behind one’s control. But what set this provider apart was the amount of determination to find the best opportunity.

Great trip. George was very engaging. Had a lot of fun. First spot we headed to clouded over so George hunted down a better viewing location.

The guide and the Northern Lights were great, and the small group was really nice too. However, the “pro photos” we received were low‑resolution JPEGs, which was disappointing. We were promised the RAW files, but we never received them.

George was an exceptional guide! his passion and enthusiasm for the northern lights made our experience unforgettable. Friendly, funny, charismatic - everything you want for an experience like this. George took us to one camp spot and we stayed there the whole night. He was an expert in finding the right place & encouraged us to stay a little longer, which we then saw the lights dancing! To top it off, he is also an incredible photographer! We highly recommend this experience for anyone in Tromso.

Saw the lights which was an incredible experience. Having our photos taken was a nice bonus but not a necessity for us. Would have loved if we had gotten more than one round of drinks as it was C O L D and one little tea gave very temporary relief. Although the guide said he had suits, I very much got the impression he didn't want to have to give them to us, as he stressed that the suit wouldn't help against the cold because it was the feet that were the real problem. Ultimately no one in our group used a suit. If you are passionate about seeing the lights, I think you will still enjoy the tour. If you have anyone in your group you are "making" go on an aurora hunt, I would consider other tour operators, as my husband came for me, and he had a miserable time. It was just too cold, which is not the guide's fault, but I feel like the perks advertised to help alleviate the cold were not delivered on. Also, pick up was absolute chaos; if there were a sign or something that the guide had, I feel like that could help.

I didn’t realize how elusive the northern lights are but George was an excellent guide . He drove us up and isolated place and within 30
Minutes, we saw the first signs of the northern lights.. it just got better from there.. we saw the dancing light in green and red. He took excellent pictures and even started a bonfire for us.. with coffe, tea an cakes. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and you did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this tour, and if your lucky, have George as your guide!

The lights were amazing and Daniel was a phenomenal guide! We’d highly recommend it. Just hope the weather cooperates.

Even though we did not get to see the northen lights, our experience was pleasant. The tour guide (Alan) was very friendly and made our experience good.

Alan underpromised and over-delivered.
Boarding the bus, Alan asked how everyone was feeling. One woman shouted “optimistic!” He laughed and said “well, heh, I don’t know.” Oh no, is it not meant to be? I know there’s a bit of luck involved, of course. He then said “a lot of people are going inland to escape the clouds, but we’re going to push north along the coast. I have a feeling.”
We drove about an hour north along the islands, when all the sudden he skirted to a pull-off on the right hand side. “Quick, everyone out.” And there it was, the first glimmers. This was just the opening act. “We’re staying here, I think the sky is going to open.”
At that point, a fire was built, a snack was provided (a whole blueberry poundcake!) and we planted our flag. After 30 minutes, we had a full show - all the colors, all the shapes, dancing. Real northern lights both to the naked eye and on camera. A few other tour groups tried to encroach on our spot, but he got there first and got the best place to sit, walk around, and view. Alan knew something the others didn’t. He worked some magic. I’d trust him with just about anything. He could work on my teeth if he wanted.
On the way back, each time another show appeared, he whipped the van to the side and we got out to observe. We did this three more times. Absolutely awesome - fulfilled a lifelong dream.

Very good, but be sure to have a toilet break before the tour! Bring all winter clothes you can! Very low temperaturs!
Marco_H, Feb 2026
It was a great experience. Our guide was very friendly and tried his hardest for us to see the Auroras even though the weather wasnt on our side. Thanks to him we still managed to see some Auroras.
Emma_S, Feb 2026
George was an amazing host who did everything in his power to allow us to see the lights despite cloud coverage and snow. He drove us to multiple locations where we were often the only group and regularly checked the sky and his tracking app in order to try and allow us to see the lights. Despite a few hours of uncertainty a stroke of luck occurred and the clouds parted and the lights came out to play. Amazing experience and definitely a bucket list moment ✨️
Pick up location was easy to find and bus was modern and comfortable. Would definitely book another tour with George in the future ✨️

Amazing tour with amazing guide, the best trip i have ever been in in all my life, we were very lucky to have a high activity night and the guide knows his stuff
lynn_S, Jan 2026
Really lovely experience, very knowledgeable guide and driver who went out of his way to ensure we had the best chance of catching views of the Northern Lights travelling close to the Finnish border. We would highly recommend this company.
Walter_F, Jan 2026
The guide was very attentive and knowledgable and made everything possible to ensure our comfort. Luckily we were able to see the Northern Lights after a 1 hour drive so intense, that we returned early to the pickup point.
Lincoln_M, Dec 2025
Alan was fantastic and had a deep understanding of the Northern Lights. He was very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to go. Even though it was a cloudy night with very low chances at 6 p.m., we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights around 9 p.m. He even predicted when the next “dance” would be which was an amazing moment! Thanks to his expertise, it turned out to be a great experience.
Julia_P, Dec 2025
our guide gave all his best for us to find the Aurora Borealis and he succeeded 100%!! we were so lucky to experience an amazing "show" on the sky (: I was impressed by the dedication of our guide, he drove us to the north of Finland, it was quite a long drive but so worth it! Thank you!
Miriam_Z, Nov 2025
We had a wonderful night with enjoy the Arctic! As anticipated we had to drive all way to Finland due to the weather, but our guide made sure to get us there in time for the Aurora show (we got lucky that night). He also made sure we could stay in the car a bit longer to avoid the -15 degrees outside until it paid off to go outside. I would recommend the tour 100%, for comfortable travel with a knowledgeable guide who drives safely and takes great pictures! Thanks for the great trip!
Scarlett_M, Oct 2025
I had a great experience with Enjoy the Arctic! Alan was a great guide, super knowledgeable and did his absolute most to find us a good spot to see the lights. We had a fire and warm drinks to keep warm while waiting. Photos were sent to us promptly and are really high quality.
Mark_J, Feb 2025
Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate even though our tour operator tried his utmost to locate the Northern Lights during our tour. In fact, our tour guide went south, then north, and late into the evening there was a slight opening in Finland when we saw a glimpse of the Northern Lights until they disappeared by cloud cover. It was an extremely windy evening when we stopped in Finland, and our tour guide graciously moved the minibus we were in to block the harsh wind. We got back to our hotel around 3AM. Kudos to our tour guide for doing his best to find the Northern Lights. I'm giving this tour 4.5 stars because we were only given a week or so to download the tour guides pictures which is not an adequate amount of time for those like us who were not due home within that time period to download the pictures. Two weeks to a month is a more realistic time period.
Wayne_T, Jan 2025
Our tour with Alan our guide, driver and photographer, from Enjoy the Arctic, was memorable and thoroughly enjoyable. Our chase took us to a few locations, including Kvaløya and Kårvik, where we witnessed magnificent aurora borealis displays in the warmth of an open fire, while enjoying cake and hot chocolate. Alan is experienced, knowledgeable, and professional. He did his best to ensure we were not disappointed and drove to several locations, where he took many photographs of us under the northern lights. Our photographs were available for download a few days later. We highly recommend this tour.
Fiona_D, Jan 2025
We had an amazing trip with Alan. He was engaging, interesting and knowledgeable about the Northern Lights. He absolutely did his best to find the optimum spot to where we might see lights (never a guarantee with nature!). We were unbelievably lucky to see a beautiful light show.
Can highly recommend this tour, just be realistic and remember that the guide can't magic up the Northern Lights if the conditions aren't right!
Jeannette_E, Jan 2025
Alan was fantastic, and I would highly recommend this tour! We had a very low chance of seeing the lights with the combination of low activity and cloudy skies. However, Alan was very dedicated to trying his best and making this a great experience. Just as we were about to call it a night and depart back to Tromso, Alan took one final look to make be sure, and luckily, we were able to see a little bit of the lights and get some pictures! The lights were very faint but still nice and the pictures we got back were nice. It was a very long night, with us not getting back to Tromso until 3:30am, but I enjoyed every second of it. It was nice to sit around the fire and chat with others and enjoy tea and a LARGE piece of cake.

As stated in other reviews, we did NOT receive any photos despite the Viator tour description stating that "professional photos taken during the tour are later sent to you via email or social media".
We waited patiently for our photos for ~2 weeks, but the tour company NEVER reached out to inform us of any updates or issues, and it took multiple follow-ups from our end just for the company to finally respond...and said there was a technical issue and our photos were lost.
Absolutely terrible customer experience. The fact that they never communicated this to us - and that we only found out after persistent emailing - gives the impression that they were trying to cover up their mistake / get away without providing the full services promised.
A partial refund was then promised, but it took even *further* follow-ups from us to finally receive any money back...and they only provided a 20% refund (~$36 / person). We did not expect a full refund - given the tour itself and transportation were still delivered - but a measly 20% back was a slap in the face and not adequate compensation for the situation.
This was a once in a lifetime experience, and we now have no photos or way to remember it because of this supposed "technical issue". How the company chose to handle the situation was even more disappointing and frustrating.
There are many other companies offering these tours in Tromso - do yourself a favor and select a different vendor.
Response from Host, Feb 2025
We can only apologize for your situation... You are entitled to your feelings and we understand it ! We are only human and errors unfortunately occur. Our guide has made a mistake and was trying desperately to fix it .... situation which you choose to interpret as us ~covering things up ~. All the other companies are ran by people, just like us, so unfortunate situation may arise at any given time ! We again apologize for your unfortunate experience and we thank you for your honest feedback !
