Itinerary

Meet your guide at the entrance to the Greek Theatre, where you’ll begin your Taormina tour. From there, you’ll visit Palazzo Corvaja and the Odeon, a 2nd-century Roman theater that was only unearthed in the late 19th century.

From that look back in time, you’ll continue in the present-day life of Taormina’s Old Town. Immerse yourself in Old Town’s serene energy, where you can hear live musicians amid the cafe chatter and smell traditional dishes being prepared in cafes and restaurants. See the beautiful San Domenico cloister, now a luxury 5-star hotel. Stop for a breathtaking view of the infamous volcano, Mt. Etna, looming over the sea.

Hear about the history of Taormina from your guide, including the array of conquering armies that inevitably shaped the culture, cuisine, and architecture of Sicily. Learn about the influence of the Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Byzantines, and Normans on this little town.

See such attractions as the Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano, Porta Catania-Chiesa del Carmine, and the Duomo Stairs before your tour concludes in Piazza Duomo. Here, your guide leaves you with a parting story about the city’s symbol, and lets you continue your evening in Taormina at your leisure.

Great private tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. Took his time and was personable. It was a perfect length of time.

Fantastic tour

We loved this tour! Our guide was friendly and informative. Perfect amount of time and information, highly recommend!

Alfredo is the best!!

JuanSebastian_S, Apr 2026
Our tour guide, Alfredo, was a complete delight! He has a personal knowledge and history of Sicily, and the passion for the topic comes through his engaging presentation and stories of the region. We walked away feeling like we spent some time with a local who has lived the history. I highly recommend trying to get Alfredo if possible. One of the best tours we had during our visit to Sicily!

Would do this again

Fred_S, Apr 2022
What a great tour! So much info about the taormina and the theater packed in a quick 2 hours. Our guide was amazing and even recommended some restaurants which were outstanding. Would highly recommend as a way to orient yourself in the city and quickly learn the history of the area

An inspiring and unique view of Taormina

Laura_I, Sep 2021
Our tour guide, Margaret, was both knowledgeable and personable. And very forgiving. We misunderstood our meeting place and yet she waited patiently for us to find our way to her and then extended the length of our tour to make up for the time we had lost. She showed us the special highlights of this magical city by focusing not only on the most popular tourist attractions, but also on those parts of town where the locals tend to hang out. Highly recommend this tour with someone like Margaret who will go above and beyond expectations.

Wonderful Experience

June_W, Aug 2019
We highly recommend this tour! We got lucky in that the four of us got the tour guide to ourselves and he was amazing. Lots of photo opportunities and our guide was a wealth of knowledge. Caution: there is a lot of walking on uneven surfaces and up hilly terrain (but all of Taormina is hills so we were prepared!) A wonderful experience.

Tour that wasn't.

Our guide was knowledgeable and it was a pleasant tour. I liked the city even more when I learned some history and the guide shared information about local sites. It ran way over the 90 minutes, as she tried to tell us everything!

Heather_G, Nov 2017
Our tour guide could have made this town come alive with stories of the people who lived and worked here during history. Instead she told us dates and repeated herself, making it a lecture instead of fun. Even the old Greek Theatre seemed dead and uninteresting because of her lack of interesting details, such as what plays were here and who were the actors. The tour was in English, but one woman needed to have German translation which took time. We quit asking our guide any questions because she perhaps did not understand us, or was upset that we interrupted her, because her replies did not always answer the questioner and made us feel like we were out of line to ask her anything. She said she came from Syracuse to do this tour and was tired all the time. Maybe another guide needs to replace this woman. The Greek Theatre entrance fee was 10, even for the short 20-30 minutes we were there before it closed. If we wanted to see the theatre again we would have to pay another 10 when it opened again. I suggest this tour be scheduled to begin earlier in the day and END the tour at the Greek Theatre. If the tour ended at the theatre at least 30-40 minutes before closing, people could stay longer there if they wanted. This would be a better ending than in the middle of the main street, just saying, This is the end of the tour. I was looking forward to this tour and was very disappointed.

The tour itself was very good. However, it is called with Greek Theatre Visit and we did not go to the Greek Theatre. That was the only reason I had booked this. The tour guide was very knowledgable and I learned a lot while we explored the streets of Taormina. The group was a good size and it really is a beautiful place. But everything we passed, we were told come back tomorrow to see this. Good tour, but should probably change the name of it.

Peter Z, Oct 2017
Perfunctory was the word I used that night. A memorized recitation. My son and his friend wanted to rate the tour a zero. I gave it a 1 for Taormina itself, which is lovely. The woman running the tour, to my mind, has been doing this too long and too often, and had nothing but a rote memorized tired spiel that lacked any passion or enthusiasm. Aside from the sites and the nice folks with us on the tour, this was a total waste of time. With a passionate, or at least interested, tour guide, this could have been a great time. I mean, Taormina is an amazing place. The only thing fun about the tour was six of us laughing about it afterwards. I almost never write negative reviews, but this was such a downer when it could have been such a postive experience. We've done similar tours elsewhere and had a great time.

A very well informed guide allowed us to absorb the atmosphere of beautiful Taormina with a gentle walk around the town and amphitheatre. We then moved onto the amazing gardens to watch the sun set over Mount Etna. A truly wonderful experience and good value at 12 Euro.

I was in Taormina already during 4 days before the Tour and I couldn't expect that Walking tour with Margaret would be so magnificent! She showed us small group of 8 little streets and corners hidden into the town which I didn't discover by myself. Was incredibly beautiful! Tour started at the perfect time when hot sun began to disappear, firstly we visited gorgeous Greek Theatre and then continued deep into the town. Very nice experience, cultural and not tiring at all. Highly recommended for everyone who goes in Taormina.

I enjoyed the tour very much, but do not remember visiting the Greek theater, unless it was the tiny theater behind the church. When I made the booking I expected it to be the visit to the big Greek theater that has a view to Etna.

First, the good: The guide was knowledgeable. The bad: 1 Nowhere in Viator's description of it is there mention that much of this tour entails scaling very steep, very uneven, rock staircases in the dark. My wife and I are both healthy and reasonably agile, but found doing this to be difficult and often unnecessary. Comments by the guide were aimed more at suggesting that we were infirm rather than cautious. 2 The tour description indicates that a visit to the Greek Theatre is included. It was not. In short, the experience was not as advertised and not particularly enjoyable.

DANIEL M, Jun 2016
This was my favourite experience in Taormina. Our guide, Alberto at least i think it was Alberto was fun, engaging and very knowledgeable. I love understanding the context and culture of everyplace i go, and this tours gives you a little taste of exactly that. It's historical context, its evolving construction, and changing hands we walked the main thoroughfares, and off down the small quirky passages, as our guide illuminated us along the way. Another positive is the small group size we were just 3 and could ask our guide anything we liked about Sicily and Taormina. Highly recommend if you enjoy a tour which allows you to enjoy your day, yet learn something new about the place you're staying in before dinner.

Really glad that we did this tour. We were staying in Taormina for a week and did lots of exploring, but doing this tour allowed us to see parts of the town we would never have discovered by ourselves, and find out lots more fascinating details about the town's history. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and clearly knew her stuff. The walk itself is pretty leisurely, and you'll see lots of great-looking restaurants as you go round which should give you lots of ideas for places to eat when the walk is over!

A small group of 2, we walked the back streets of Taormina and discovered historic locales not usually found on one's own. Tour guide Margherita was charming. About 1 1/2 hours of colorful history and charming streets.
