Great experience. Got to cook several different items, all guided by the chef. As its group cooking you take turns chopping, stirring, plating etc. As you cook you learn about the cuisine and sample three different drinks. At the end you get the recipes to take home. I can see myself making the Spanish omelette and stuffed peppers at home.

We love to do cooking classes on all our holidays. This one is the best we have done by far. The food was amazing!! We enjoyed learning about the local food and history. Highly recommend both Hector and Natalia they really made the experience perfect. Great way to spend an afternoon.

This was a great event. In large part due to the chef Alberto who was a pleasure to be with, really enjoyable, friendly, and funny. His recipes were both delicious and easy to follow. Highly recommend Alberto and this experience.

The only nice thing we can say is Carlos was a good leader for the class. For the cost (+/- $165 each), the menu and location was unacceptable. The class was held in a dirty kitchen filled with flies. The menu consisted of 1 pintxos (an anchovy and pepper on a toothpick), a basque omelet of eggs and potatoes, a bland tortilla with sausage and a tasteless basque cheesecake. This was described as a basque dinner and we could not believe we paid that much money for scrambled eggs! The wine wasn't even opened until the end of class and the purchased bread wasn't even offered to the attendees. This is the ONLY bad experience I've had with Viator and would strongly suggest reworking this entire experience. So disappointing!

We had a fantastic time at this cooking class in San Sebastián! We learned how to make several Basque favorites, including Gildas, txistorra, tortilla, and Basque cheesecake. Everything we made was delicious, and the class was both fun and informative. The atmosphere was relaxed and engaging, and we had a great time cooking, eating, and learning about Basque cuisine. The experience also included plenty of local drinks, including cider, txakoli, and Rioja wine.

Our chef, Mattin was wonderful despite the circumstances of the kitchen we cooked in. Our class took place in the basement kitchen of a coffee shop, not a cooking school. For the amount we paid ~135 euro we “cooked” tortilla (without onions because it took too long????), assembled a Gilda pinxto, a traditional bread/sausage snack and basque cheesecake. The drinks were plentiful.

Do not spend your money on this tour. Save it and go to Casa Julian or Bar Sport instead. We paid €140 per person for a group of four (€560 total) and received a small piece of tortilla, one gilda on a toothpick, bread with a few slices of chorizo, cheesecake, and three glasses of wine. For comparison, we spent about the same amount at Casa Julian and enjoyed an incredible meal for four that included the most amazing steak of my life, peppers, vegetables, dessert, and two bottles of wine priced at €100 each. At Bar Sport, €100 total covered 10 pintxos and two bottles of wine for four people. The photos advertised online did not match our experience at all. The class took place in a dirty basement with flies and only one hot plate for cooking. The instructor himslef was lovely and brought great energy to the experience, but unfortunately the quality and setting did not come close to justifying the price.

The cooking was amazing and we learned to make traditional Basque foods from Pil Pil, Basque cheesecake, Gilda pinxos, and stuffed peppers. The wine served (included) was delicious and plentiful. Recipes were given immediate! Small intimate class. The guide and instructor were knowledgeable and friendly!

We had such a great time learning how to cook some basque classics and spending time with the people in the class. Mila ( our guide) and Natalia (our chef instructor) were fabulous. To set expectations, students do some hands on activities but Natalia did more as she explained the history of the dishes and how to prepare and cook them. Excellent class

This cooking class was super fun and informative. You are in a professional style kitchen watching amd assisting the cooking process. We actually got a personal tour as we were the only ones to sign up. We had a great experience learning several local dishes like the basque cheesecake so yummy! At the end you get the recipes so you can recreate it all at home!

We both had a great time in this cooking class. The chefs were brilliant and we had such a lovely small group. While it wasn't a super hands on class as we cooked four different meals, my partner and I really enjoyed learning about Basque cuisine, drinking local wines and experiencing the Basque hospitality. We really appreciated being given the recipes after the class - our link stopped working but after messaging the company a few weeks later, they sent the recipes to us straight away! Would recommend to anyone to top off their San Sebastian visit.

This is my first online review ever. I am overly annoyed. This was a pure cheating. No Basque cuisine. In fact, no cuisine at all. And no cooking class. I attended the program with my daughter. Although the guy hosting the program (maybe his name was Miguel?) was giving us an unsolicited lesson on his political views, he was unable to fill the time, so we finished 30 mins ahead. The menu: - basic Spanish omelette (just eggs and potato, done by everyone from the age of 12) - fried Cod (simply fried with garlic, no seasoning, no cooking technique) - Beefsteak (just simply pan-fried, the way we make it, when we make it, no seasoning, no sauce). - Cheesecake (that was the only 'cooking' in the first 5 minutes, but later Miguel kept telling us that the receipt was not the right one. Also he kept telling us that traditionally the 'real' Basque cheesecake had been done with 'Philadelphia Creem Cheese'. :-) What an annoying, but funny historical nonsense.... I didn't show or share my frustration. But when the program finished, my daughter asked me if we could get our money back.

An Immersive Basque Cooking Experience in San Sebastián

I attended this cooking class in San Sebastián, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. Hosted by Mikel, who not only guided us through the art of Basque cuisine but also shared fascinating insights into the history of the region, the afternoon was both educational and fun. Mikel's passion for Basque culture really added a rich layer to the experience. The main cook, Angel, was incredible—polite, knowledgeable, and an absolute pro in the kitchen. He demonstrated each dish with skill and precision, while also taking the time to show us key techniques. We had the chance to make a variety of traditional dishes, including tortilla, Basque cheesecake, cod pil pil, and steak. Angel was patient and detailed, making sure everyone was comfortable with the recipes. I attended the class solo, but the intimate group of five made it feel very personal and interactive. The dishes were perfectly paired with local wines, enhancing the experience of tasting the flavors of the region. Overall, it was a delightful afternoon, full of learning and delicious food, and I left with a deeper appreciation for Basque cuisine. Highly recommend!

We took this tour in late April 2024 and had a great time. We enjoyed making the recipes and trying each item. The tour guide was informative and the chef was very kind. The only thing I’m still waiting for are the (promised via email) recipes from that day. Please send them to me. We recommend this tour to everyone. You will enjoy it!
