We go on food tours in most cities we visit, and this was the least satisfying one we have ever been on. I would not recommend it. We paid a good amount for four of us to be on it, but we were reminded again and again that these were working restaurants doing us a favor. Maybe San Sebastian is too busy for food tours, I don't know. The following day on our free walking tour, we learned the meaning of the word pintxos (and I think we had maybe one or two on this tour), the difference between pintxos and tapas, and about San Sebastian. Every food tour we've been on we have learned something about the culture of the food we're tasting. The guide knew a lot about wine, and told us quite a bit about it when we were at the otherwise empty wine bar. I don't remember the food at all, but I could tell you our whole menu from a food tour in Lisbon and Paris. The best way to describe the tour is lackluster.

Javi was super friendly and had a lot of patience with my slow walking 80 yr old mom. He was knowledgeable and fun and a very good guide. The food was great. These were off the beaten path spots but we were not surrounded by tourists. It was nice to be in A group of people from all countries. A nice experience!

We had an absolutely fantastic time on the Secret Food Tour with Javier! From the very beginning, he created a warm and friendly atmosphere that made everyone feel welcome.
Javier is incredibly knowledgeable about San Sebastián, its history, culture, and, of course, its amazing food. He was also funny, engaging, and shared lots of useful local tips and recommendations that made the rest of our stay even better. It was clear how passionate he is about showing visitors the authentic side of the city beyond the usual tourist spots.

My husband, son (11 years old) and I did this tour our first night in San Sebastián. It was a great way to get a feel for the city, some history and decorum for Pinxtos, restaurants, bars, etc. The tour was very accommodating for our son, with snacks he’d like and drinks just for him. We also had a lively group of tour mates, which made for a fun experience and a chance to get to know others and have a social night out. My only recommendation would be to order the extra package with more drinks - some locations did not offer a drink with the base purchase and we all ended up buying them at the bar to complement the food. Overall a great experience!

Our guide was lovely however the food and beverages provided were not of good value - very expensive for what was provided in the ticket price.

We had a wonderful tour with Javier as our guide. We went to many different locations so got to tour the city as we stopped for food along the way. All the food was delicious and we had a fun group. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone for their first time in San Sebastián.

We enjoyed having Miguel as our tour guide. He was funny, personable and knowledgeable of the local history. He made great recommendations for all the pintxos we ate. While our guide was knowledgeable about the history and the legacy of San Sebastián, I am fairly disappointed in this tour experience. The food was tasty, albeit overwhelmingly unspecial - the dishes were the most basic tapas/pintxos. Finally, considering the substantial cost of this tour, and the actual cost of each of the items served (pintxos and wine not expensive), this tour was incredibly disappointing. For $130USD/person we received the following -
one single oyster
one single Gilda
one small jamon on bread
one croquette
one small pour of cider
two tastes of wine (totalling one glass)
A shared half tortilla
Two additional shared appetizers
Plus one final glass of wine
I would imagine that the total cost of all the food per person could not be more than 40-50€. My partner and I still left hungry since the tour went longer than expected with additional walking, and we were not able to visit other restaurants as they were closed for the night.
I’d recommend walking into pintxo bars yourself and finding some new things to try! Don’t be fooled or overwhelmed, most spots are friendly and the crowds are part of the experience. You will save a lot of money - this tour was our most expensive meal of our whole vacation and by far the most disappointing.

Our San Sebastian Food & Pintxos Tour is designed to introduce guests to a variety of traditional pintxos, regional drinks, and local culinary traditions across several venues rather than focusing on a large meal at a single location. The Sunday evening tour follows a specific menu, which was provided in full during your visit. While one of our regular partner locations is unavailable on Sunday evenings, an established alternative stop is included as part of the standard experience.
We understand that value and portion sizes can be subjective and that the tour did not align with your personal expectations. Many of our guests enjoy the opportunity to discover the stories, traditions, and local specialties that make San Sebastian's food culture so unique, alongside the food and drinks served throughout the evening.

Our guide Mikel was great! He made sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time. He not only took us to many small restaurants that we would have never found, and they had tables waiting for us. The wine pairings were excellent.
We have some friends going to Donostia / San Sebastian soon, and we are getting them signed up for this.

Mikael was excellent and made the event a real pleasure. We could have stayed at the first place alone all night!! The choices of bars/restaurants were excellent. My only point to make is that we stopped at a wine shop (great) for a wine tasting - the lady doing the presentation raced through it as though she wasn't bothered and we felt that part was a complete waste of money (She didn't talk about the wines as we tasted them or give any real history/narrative into why we were tasting them etc - They were young cheap wines which was not the target at our group - we had some knowledgeable wine owners amongst us so would have preferred to have been given some time and attention) - we would have preferred to have had Mikael talk us through local wine - he recommended a brilliant wine I will be looking to find here in the UK! Despite the wine shop experience the rest was really enjoyable and I would recommend Mikael to anyone wanting to explore San Sebastian.

We had the most amazing time on our pintxos tour. Our guide Mikel was great and very informative. There was never any rush and took things at our own pace and took time to chat to us on a personal level. We saw parts of the city we would never of found. We highly recommend doing this tour!

We enjoyed this tour very much! Javier is an excellent guide. He took us to fabulous bars and restaurants where the locals go that gave us an introduction to various types of food and experiences. Walking between these stops, we paused along the way at the beach and the market while he explained the history, culture and food of the area. Our conversations continued while we indulged in the pintxos and beverages at each establishment. Javier was very knowledgable, personable and passionate and we appreciated him guiding and teaching us about the Basque food, culture and history!

Thank you for your 5-star review. We aim to make each tour flavorful, informative, and relaxed, and it’s great to know it hit the mark. There’s another experience waiting for you through Secret Food Tours in 100+ cities around the world!
I really wanted to like this tour. I liked the tour guide, and I liked his style of communicating and story-telling. HOWEVER, this is a FOOD tour nonetheless, and I expected to be eating. Learning, yes, but also eating. Our tour only had 3 other clients (including myself), and at the start, the guide said that how many restaurants we visit would just depend on our own pace, but expect 4-6 restaurants and a guarantee that you'll be full. We started out with 2 pintxos, as expected, but also did a lot of city walking. As in, walk to the beach, stand there and listen to some history, and then we'll go to the restaurant (slowly). I don't drink alcohol, and the guide knew this, but didn't really make any accommodations. So there was a portion of the tour where I was just sitting there politely, begging with my eyes to go to the next place because I was hungry. One other individual didn't eat seafood, and there were no accommodations either.
All in all, we hit up 3 restaurants and 1 wine tasting bar from 6:30-10:00pm when the guide hurriedly had to leave to catch his bus home. This was a disappointing tour with very little food, although a lot of local perspective and history. I do not recommend this tour as I got little value from it.
