We had a wonderful afternoon with Fernando. He was very patient and relaxed, and we learned so much. We made at least five dishes, including the best mole any of us had ever had. The class is about five hours long -- good idea to eat a solid breakfast before you arrive. Highly recommended!

Great experience! We started at a market learning facts about the food we would later be using in our dish. Then made our way to the restaurant to prepare a traditional Mexican soup. Our time was spent chopping vegetables and grinding spices while enjoying a delicious margarita made from hibiscus flower. Our host was very professional yet so personal to the entire group. Would highly recommend this activity. We have done many different types of activities in our travels, and this was a definite favorite.

Love cooking? This is a must!

Eire_O, Feb 2026
This was my first cooking class while on vacation and after this amazing experience I’ll be doing a class every time I travel from now on! Our guide/chef Francisco was fantastic at explaining all the steps of cooking and making sure the whole class was included in the process. At the start of the experience we did a market tour to get all the ingredients to cook our chicken tacos, Pico de gallo, salsa verde, guacamole and mole. Through the market Francisco explained how to tell all the vegetables were ripe and answered all our questions along the way! Excuse my poor photography skills but I’ve added a few photos of our finished tacos and mole sauce. All the food was delicious and catered to the groups spice tolerance. I could not recommend this enough if you enjoy cooking and trying local food.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for such a thoughtful review! We’re thrilled that Francisco and the market tour made your first vacation cooking class so memorable. From the Pico de gallo to the mole, it sounds like you mastered the menu! Your photos look great—they definitely make us hungry. Safe travels on all your future culinary adventures!

Fun and delicious!

Chef Francisco took us to the local market to start with. We were able to try some of the different fruits and vegetables as we toured and he purchased ingredients for our meal. We learned to make our own tortillas as well as ceviche, salsa, fish tacos, guacamole, and hibiscus margaritas. We had a lot of fun and everything was so delicious!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for the visit and for sharing your experience! We are so glad you enjoyed the day with us. Wishing you the best and hoping to cook together again soon. ¡Gracias!

Muchas gracias! We are so honored to be a 'definite favorite' among all the activities you’ve done in your travels. Our goal is to blend professionalism with a personal touch, so we are thrilled that you felt right at home with our host. There is something so rewarding about enjoying a hibiscus margarita while hand-grinding the spices for a traditional soup! We truly appreciate the high recommendation and hope to cook with you again on your next trip to San José.

We are delighted to hear that our cooking class exceeded your expectations! We take great pride in the educational aspect of our market tours and the hands-on nature of the cooking and drink-making. Thank you for the 'heads up' to future guests about our schedule; we want everyone to be prepared for a full, fun day of food and culture. We truly appreciate the high praise and hope to see you again soon!

Fun with Cooking

Erin_M, Dec 2025
Francisco spent some time in the market with us teaching us about the different Mexican ingredients for the Mole that we made and took us to a traditional tortilla making shop to get fresh masa that we could make into our own tortillas. Everything was delicious!

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled that you enjoyed the deep dive into Mexican ingredients with Francisco. We believe that understanding the components of a complex dish like Mole makes the final taste even more rewarding. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed the visit to the traditional tortilleria—there is nothing quite like the smell and feel of fresh masa! We hope you’re already showing off your tortilla-pressing skills back home.

Fantastic food and cooking tips

Jason_Y, Dec 2025
We consider ourselves adventurous cooks and so when we saw this opportunity we knew we had to take a lesson from an expert. It was fantastic. We met up at a local market where we learned about the ingredients and how to choose them. After a quick stop to get tortillas and masa (complete with tasting a hot off the grill tortilla) we went to the restaurant to cook. We were hands on in preparing the tamales and salsa. The food was fantastic, even with our help 😆. We would do it again, learn more, and eat more amazing food. We highly recommend to anyone who likes food.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you so much for the high recommendation! We love hosting adventurous cooks like yourselves—it’s always a pleasure to dive deep into the 'why' behind our ingredients with people who truly appreciate the craft. We’re glad you enjoyed that first 'hot off the grill' tortilla; it’s a simple pleasure that perfectly sets the stage for the tamale-making! Don’t be so modest about your help—we’re sure your hands-on effort is exactly what made that salsa and those tamales taste so fantastic. We’d love to have you back for a 'Level 2' lesson anytime!

Highly recommended

Cassandra_R, Oct 2025

When you book this cooking experience check for the dishes you’d like to learn to make as they have different ones on different days. We picked Monday and learned how to make tamales, so easy and good. The stop at the market to learn how and why you pick different vegetables was good to know. This is a very informative tour.

Relaxing and fun experience

Fun and Educational

Shelley_C, Jul 2025
My friend and I really enjoyed the experience. The Chef was friendly and accommodating and adjusted the class based on our feedback. Not only we learned how to pick the veggies, we but also learned lots of great tips of how to make margarita, salsa, taco, and more. We were so full by the end of the cooking class. The Chef was engaging and you can tell that he loved to share his passion of Mexican cuisine. This is a great tour for those who love cooking or just love food. We would definitely do it again and recommend it to friends.

Good eats with Francisco and Luz!

Cooking with Francisco

Trish_W, Mar 2025
Francisco met us right on time at the designated spot. He was gracious and fun as he taught us to choose just the right limes and avocados at the market as well as the types of peppers/chilies that are available. He drove us to his home where his son, Pablo, had prepped the table and had knives for meal prep. The two of them began prepping a delicious meal that we were invited to participate in squeezing, chopping, mixing, rolling and pressing (tortillas). We started with delicious hibiscus margaritas, and made guacamole to start. Every item was fresh and delicious. Exceptionally satisfying and informative! Francisco and Pablo were an excellent team and every aspect of our day was welcoming and comfortable. Thank you Francisco for a fun/delicious afternoon.

You Can't Do Better

Marc_v, Jan 2025
You can't do better than this experience to get a real flavor of Mexico. We started in the market to buy our food and ended in the kitchen making tortillas before eating the fruits of our labors. Francisco is an amazing host and makes you feel valued and treasured. Something we will do again the next time we visit Cabo.

Best!

We had a wonderful time cooking with chef Francisco and his family! We learned so much shopping at the market, prepping the food, making tortillas and enjoying the fruits of our labor. We enjoyed a delicious hibiscus margarita while we worked (juicing the limes was our first task), salsa Mexicana, guacamole, salsa verde, shrimp tostadas on jicama, and fish tacos. We hope to do it again next time we visit Los Cabos!

Exceptional food and experience! Five Stars!
