It was a terrible excursion to Saona Island! I booked the earliest time, 7:00 a.m., to get to the island before the big

Svitlana_B, Mar 2026
It was a terrible excursion to Saona Island! I booked the earliest time, 7:00 a.m., to get to the island before the big flow of tourists. The day before, I received a message that the tour would start at 7:30, but we didn’t get to the island until 4 hours later. We were picking up other people from different hotels along the way, which was okay, but then we drove in the opposite direction to pick up another large group. There weren’t even enough seats on the bus for everyone! I booked the tour in English, but it was in Spanish. A guide met us and gave us yellow wristbands, saying we had to follow him all day. When we arrived at the place where we were supposed to transfer to the speedboat, we were handed over to other people and given wristbands of a different color. We were supposed to go see starfish, which I never saw. From 7:30 a.m. until 7:45 p.m., we only got 20 minutes in the natural pool where the starfish were supposed to be, and just 2 hours on Saona Island itself, where it was already very crowded. Out of those 2 hours, we spent 20 minutes standing in line for lunch. In the end, you get almost nothing. There wasn’t even enough time to walk along the beach. On the way back, we were again handed over to another driver. Instead of going straight to the hotel, we stopped somewhere and were transferred to yet another bus with different people. We were the last to get off the bus. Our journey home took 4 and a half hours. The island itself is very beautiful, but the people who organized this trip do not know what good service is. On the catamaran on the way back, there was a “disco” where they offered to sell you a hat for $5. If you refuse, they tell you it’s a tip for the workers. But it should be my choice whether I want to leave a tip or not.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Good morning, thank you for your review. We would like to clarify a few points: First, the 7:00 a.m. time shown on the website is the start time for pickups. Pickup times vary depending on the hotel. At your hotel, the pickup was at 7:30 a.m. The website doesn't allow us to assign a specific time to each hotel, as there are 165 hotels in the area. Therefore, we contact our clients to inform them of the pickup time based on their hotel and location. This is why you were shown as 7:30 a.m., but this does not mean the tour departs at that time. Pickups for this tour are group tours, as it is not a private tour. The schedule shown on the page is the schedule for hotel pickups, not the schedule for the tour to Saona. Regarding the tour language, it is conducted in the languages spoken by the participants: English, Spanish, French, and others. The guide, who has 12 years of experience in this job, cannot conduct the entire tour solely in English when there are also clients who speak other languages, as information must be provided in all languages present. Regarding tour departure times, all companies and boats leave Bayahibe starting at 9:45 a.m. local time. No company can depart earlier, as boats are only authorized to set sail at that time. Therefore, regarding your comment about booking earlier to arrive at the island sooner, I believe you are mistaken, because no company is permitted to depart before 9:45 a.m. local time. As for the starfish, their presence is beyond our control, as they are a natural phenomenon. Sometimes they appear, and other times they hide; that is not something we can influence. Regarding the food, there is a line to enter the buffet, just like in any hotel, where you have to wait your turn. If the tour were private, the arrangements would be different. The tour works as follows: if you go by speedboat, you return by catamaran, and vice versa. Our tour is very well organized, and we are one of the best companies in terms of logistics. However, when clients are looking for a quieter experience with fewer people, they usually opt for a private tour. Tips are not mandatory, as stated on the website. It is also not mandatory to buy a swim cap or any other product sold during the tour. The time spent in the natural pool is not 20 minutes, but rather 35 to 40 minutes, and cannot be extended because all boats must be back at the dock by 6:00 PM. Regarding the return to your hotel, once we arrive in Punta Cana, we use support transportation to drop clients off at their respective hotels, as two buses are not enough to cover all destinations. Thank you.

Great time very well...

Great time very well spent good vibes a load of fun. I went solo and still enjoyed it as if I had someone with me

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We are very happy to know you had a "great time" and enjoyed "good vibes and lots of fun" on your Saona Island excursion with us. It is especially rewarding to hear that, even though you traveled solo, you had as good a time as if you had come with company. Our goal is to create a welcoming and unforgettable atmosphere for all our travelers, whether they come in a group, as a couple, or alone. We hope to welcome you back on another one of our adventures. See you soon!

Beautiful Island

Keyzar_D, Mar 2025
Saona island and the natural swimming pool were so beautiful! On the island, you get to eat from a buffet, swim in the water, buy a pina colada, or get a massage. The transportation took a little long to figure out at the beginning but the island was worth the wait. The catamaran on the way back was also a blast.

The actual island is very...

Kemaya_F, Feb 2025
The actual island is very beautiful but getting there is a lot . I was picked up at my hotel first and then we arrived at the second resort to pick up a group of about 30. My husband and I were told to get out of the van . The driver told us to wait for another ride . At this point it’s 8 of us left who can’t fit . A taxi pulls up and they cram us in like sardines. We then head to another spot to get on a bigger van finally everyone has a seat . Once we got on the speedboat we were sardines once again. After you leave the island we got back on the speedboat for about 10 minutes to take us to the catamaran. They pulled us to the side of the boat like pirates and we had to jump . The catamaran was already occupied by so many people there was barely any where to sit .

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Greetings Mrs. Kemaya. Thank you for your comment, I remember it perfectly since I had requested a refund after taking the tour without any complaints. I remember that you were staying at the Bahía Aquamarine hotel. It took you a few minutes to leave, then the driver went to pick up a family of 12 people (within the same complex) at Bahía Punta Cana. And there everyone had their seats. We remember that the pick-ups are collective (you did not buy a private tour) and in the same way that we waited for you and they picked you up, they also had to pick up the others. About the catamaran, each of our catamarans has a capacity for 80 people, which did not even reach 50. The catamarans are left at a safe distance since they cannot reach the shore, so you must take a speedboat to where the catamaran is. Our catamarans have few seats because the clients mostly preferred it that way to go dancing and having fun (but it does have its seats).

Best Beach Day!

Emily_W, Oct 2024
Highly recommend this as a beach day! We had Nicholas as our guide and he was hilarious! The boat ride to Isla Saona was fun! Once we got to the island we skipped the food line to get massages on the beach and to play fútbol with the locals- don’t do that! Make sure you get food first because when we came back there was none left! Nicholas was kind enough to find us some fresh pineapple to hold us over! The drinks were strong and complimentary. Everyone was dancing, even the staff! Such a great experience! Saona island is a dream, such a scenic island to explore and swim!

I do not recommend

Chanta_W, Sep 2024
There were alot of moving parts to this experience which included the vehicle to transfer you to the location not being big enough, no proper communication regarding the transfer to location, it seems liked everything was rushed and the workers were sexually inappropriate with me and my friend. I would not recommend this company they have alot of work to do to make this experience more enjoyable.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Hello, Thank you for your review, Mrs. Chanta. The company only has several transports that are only for hotel pick-ups and another larger transport that goes to Bayahibe, which is where we boarded. Regarding what you are talking about regarding the behavior of the employees, it is very strange because in 12 years as a company I have NEVER heard such a mistake. Sometimes there are people who confuse being attentive or social with other behaviors. It all depends on how you look at it and you confuse things. Thank you.

Not worth it!

ELISA_L, Mar 2024
The island was beautiful. The catamaran boat ride back was nice. The trip was very unorganized! It took a long time to get on the speed boat once we got there. I didn’t have back problems but I may now from the wrecked driving. Got to the island and be prepared for A LOT of people pushing products. I was at the end of the line for food, and there was barely anything left. Got back onto the bus and sat on it for over an hour before we left to go back to the hotels. I am still on the bus 10 hours later… It was supposed to be a nine hour tour at most! It’s supposedly started at seven I got picked up at 8:30. If people did get picked up at seven it’s almost a 12 hour tour for them right now.

Response from Host, Mar 2024

Good morning, thank you for your review. Clarifying, the tours do not start at 7:00 am, the pick-ups start at 7:00 am depending on the hotel you are in, the pick-up time is set since Viator only gives us the option of setting a time for each hotel, You picked up at 8:30 am because it is already the last pickup route. From Punta Cana to BAYAHIBE, which is where we embarked, it is 45 minutes. (it's in the description) About the vendors on the beach they are locals who live on the Island and make a living that way. We as a company cannot prohibit it since the Island is not private. The description also says that we used a speedboat so if you had a back problem it was not recommended for you or you should have gotten in the middle like many do. Regarding the line to board the boat, unfortunately this is the case because the Dominican government has the authorities there verifying that each person who is going to board has their bracelet and life jacket. You must count from the time you leave Punta Cana. The tours always arrive at 6 in the afternoon in Punta Cana.

Fun experience with all...

Keith_I, Mar 2024
Fun experience with all and individual attention when needed on the cruise. The team was entertaining and educational.

Disappointing

Anne_M, Feb 2024
Bus trip, too long from the Westin Hotel. Area at the boat was congested. The bathroom attendant was selling toilet paper wipes, the stalls don’t provide any! The catamaran trip was too loud with music blaring. The only drink provided was coke and rum. Saona is beautiful nut crowded with tourists, The lunch was not good.

Response from Host, Feb 2024

Greetings, thank you for your review. The length of the trip depends on the location of the hotel and you were at the Westin Punta Cana which is one of the furthest in the area. About the music on the catamaran, unfortunately we cannot turn it off since others want to listen to music, so we put it in a term that does not bother anyone but also does not make the trip boring for others. Regarding the sales of sanitary towels, this is not the case since the bathrooms have toilet paper for everyone. About the food it is one of our best things since it is Dominican food but others don't like our food. And about the fact that there was someone on the Island, I remind you that it is a public beach managed by the government where more people from different companies go.

Family fun was good

Lisa_G, Jan 2024
The water and beach. Watching all of it as we sailed The pictures with family were really fun The snorkeling was not snorkeling, that was disappointing. The food was satisfactory.

Response from Host, Jan 2024

Snorkeling is what is given, only on the island it cannot be given and we have to go to a point where it is authorized to snorkel. If the client wants to spend more time snorkeling, they should choose the Catalina Island Tours.

We loved it

Bence_G, Jan 2024
Manuel the tourgide was amazing, the trip worth it 100%! We started the day at 7:30 am and finished at 6 pm.

You get what you pay for

Jinyi_L, Dec 2023
Quite unorganized trip, “bus” is actually a van that definitely makes adults feel crammed, two of us (party of 4) had stomach issue after having their provided lunch, on-boat snacks are free only for DR residents, other ppl need to pay. Dancing with the bartenders on the catamaran comes with a price tag afterwards as well. NO stop at the Starfish sandbar, not enough goggles for snorkeling so each person gets probably 30 seconds in the water. Their partner photographers ask for a ridiculous amount ( $210!) for the pictures they take of you with no printed price list or agreement, so that they can end up scamming you with even more extra ($30 more in our case) if you pay US dollars with a credit card. Gratitude is “optional” but collected by someone with a bag at every step. Good luck.

Response from Host, Dec 2023

Excuse me madam, the bus that you went to pick up is a bus with capacity for 33 people, I organized your pick up myself, regarding the drink that you have to pay for, that is false since national rum is included if you ordered piña colada, You should have verified in the included products that the pina colada is not included and is paid separately since that does not belong to us, the same as the photos, that is a separate company but the client is not obliged to buy the photos. No national drink is for everyone, both from the DR and other countries, and to tell the truth, the public we serve is more foreign than Dominican. I invite you to double check the services included and those not included. If the food was bad for you, we are very sorry but sometimes when you go to another country and the change of food can sometimes affect you, remember that it is not the same seasoning.

It was a fun and...

arlenelauren, Aug 2023
It was a fun and organized trip. Manuel, our tour guide, was friendly and informative. I would recommend taking this tour.

Magical spot with some downsides

Scott_J, May 2023
It is truly a magical spot, you will enjoy the scenery, and the wxpariemce on the see and the catamaran; however, the beach and the island is not going to be too much different than your resort and with less amenities. I suggest to do this if you are here for > 1 week. The buffet is only 2 - 3 variations. If you are here for relaxation, don't go.

An okay (and very long) day

Harleigh_R, May 2023
It was an okay experience. We were a group of 4 friends and we made the most of it. The travel time is more than you get to experience. It took 2 hours to collect from other hotels in Punta Cana and get to the place to take the boat, even though it was a 50 minute drive on Google Maps. It says there’s an open bar but they only serve you rum and coke. The photographers hound you to pose for pictures all day without prices and then complain if you don’t want to pay for the pictures at the end of the day ($180 for your set from the day). The speed boat back was a pretty violent ride, prepare to get soaked. Being on the island itself is quite nice and there are loads of photo opportunities, the food there was good also but just more rum and coke. They also offered the local liquor mamajana but it was the worst we’ve tasted all trip. I think for the length of this experience (12 hours door to door) it’s worth paying more with your travel agent for a more premium experience. Only take what you can carry as you change boats about 4 times.

Response from Host, May 2023

Greetings, thank you for your review. the open bar only includes national rum, the route to where we embark is the same for both Premium and shared. Since these trips are embarked through Bayahibe, it is the only place where you can embark to Isla Saona. Regarding the photos, they are private photographers (they do not work for our company) but it is up to the client whether or not to buy the photos. That is why in our description it says that it does not include photos. The boats are two speedboats and a catamaran and the dynamic is if we go by boat the return is by catamaran and if we go by catamaran the return would be by boat.

God bless you guys

Leydis_T, May 2023
Just want to thank you guys for the amazing experience, my Girl and I went for her birthday and decided to take the tour with them. I had ulcers attack while I was at the Saona Island me and my girl thought it was going go away soon just as before. Long story short they immediately called an ambulance to take me to a nearest clinic and they even drove us to a hospital and Jenifer and her staff waited until my situation was stable. Thank you guys.

Response from Host, May 2023

Estamos aquí para servirles y súper encantado de poder ayudarles. Pronta mejoría para su esposo

Poor and unsafe but amazing island

Nick_K, Feb 2023
They took us with a car then we didn’t know how to get back. Had to find a different way back and theres people at the docks bothering for money all the time then on the boat asking for tips, the boat ride back was super unsafe and super scary, the island is only 1 hours, DONT EXPECT THIS TO BE THE BEST TRIP, try another charter because this one won’t leave you satisfied.. also snorkeling is not what it seems like, you have over 35 people waiting in a small boat for u and it’s like 5 minutes

Response from Host, Feb 2023

Greetings, you return on the same bus that left. The buses cannot wait at the pier, they must wait in an exclusive parking lot for the buses, everyone waits there with the other companies. Once they arrive at the pier, the guide calls the driver and the driver picks them up and brings them back. since it is forbidden for them to stand there on the pier. Regarding tips, these are the guys who do animation, which is not mandatory, it is in the client if he wants to give him something for the show provided. the time given for snorkeling is the established and allowed time, which is 25 minutes, not 5 About the boat trip, if the client is afraid of going by boat, we give them the option of going by catamaran and returning by catamaran. but this must be notified at the dock. before boarding since the dynamic is if they go by catamaran the return would be by boat and if they go by boat the return would be by catamaran. but if the client wishes, we give him the option of going by catamaran and returning by catamaran.

Paradise

Dean_W, Feb 2023
Absolutely beautiful it really is a Caribbean paradise we'll worth the money food was good also the drinks are unlimited 👌

Good trip!

Sophie_T, Jan 2023
Manuel was an excellent tour guide and made all the tour feel welcome, with lots of opportunities to swim, he made the tour engaging and was always made sure everyone had drinks in hand! Only thing is make sure you say no to any offers of personalised photos as the photographers charge extortionate prices (several hundred dollars which will only be announced after the shoot is completed) and can be quite aggressive if prices are questioned.

Excellent beautiful island must see

Tracey_W, Dec 2022
The speedboat trip out and catamaran back were superb! Staff were amazing and great fun. Food and drink fantastic. Tour guide fantastic. We didn’t see many fish though. Island was beautiful. Bus transport from hotel and back was v disappointing, not well planned resulting in trip taking 11 hours!

Response from Host, Dec 2022

Good afternoon. Let me explain. We have a bus to pick you up at the hotels, and everyone leaves together at the meeting point in a bus with more capacity. The total time is 9 hours of travel between the hotel and the return, also there hotels that even being in the ares of Punta Cana are very far away, an example in which you were.

Book elsewhere

Ellie_W, Nov 2022
I thought the island was beautiful and the food that was provided was great. However the transport was awful. We were picked up at the time stated then put on an another bus at another resort then came back to the hotel next to our hotel. We kept going back and forth for about an hour before setting off and making more stops along the way, in total it took 2 hours to get there and the same on the return journey, this should have only taken 1 hour. In total it was just under a 12 hour day not a 9 hour day. In the description of this trip it states we will get 3 hours on the island. We only had 2 hours. It also says we get to snorkel. There were only a few snorkel masks for around 40 people so most didn’t get the opportunity to experience this and those who did it wasn’t for very long and hardly any fish in the area we were taken too. Our bus driver only spoke Spanish so didn’t make any effort with us to tell us how long the journey would be and what hotels are going to be first but was happy to to chat and laugh with the other people on the trip who did speak Spanish. I am appalled with this. On the return catamaran we were harassed by the girls working on the boat to buy bandanas which we didn’t want and wouldn’t leave us alone which was very uncomfortable when trapped on a boat! I wouldn’t book this trip again.

Response from Host, Nov 2022

my heart, the pick-up bus is one and the transport to go to the largest island. about the girls who sell scarves are people who make a living that way. but the purchase is not mandatory.

sonia_s, Aug 2022
Amazing tour love the island. And the party boat. Driver was very friendly. Would highly recommend.❤️🇩🇴 This was paradise

Safety not

Agustin_R, Aug 2022
It seem like safety is no concern at all. On the way back from the island, we asked for life vests and were refused putting all in the boat at risk. I will send this complaint to Expedia and to the minister of turismo.

Response from Host, Aug 2022

good afternoon, SR apparently there must be some confusion here. Since our company (Operator Tours) and all the companies that have to do with water excursions in the Dominican Republic, none can go out without the corresponding life jackets. since before boarding the boats, the marina, the ministry of tourism and the environment carry out site inspections. Therefore, it is totally forbidden for boats to leave without people having life jackets, both clients and our boat captain, our country is characterized by taking care of the Tourist who visits us. I invite you to contact us so that you can provide us with your complaint and the necessary investigations can be carried out.

Everything was great...

Yolanda_C, Aug 2022
Everything was great service! From the driver picking us up, the boat trip to the island and everything in between. Right up to the very end when the driver was waiting and taking us back to our hotel. Thank you again and GOD bless all of you

Beautifull beach and island but wit many boat trip tourism

Raphael_S, Jun 2022
Really nice and beautiful beach, but to less time there. Even if already to much tourism there, the island and the beach was able to give a nice and beautiful caribean feeling

Book this tour it’s a must excursion for Punta Cana!

Stephanie_D, Jun 2022
This excursion was by far the best excursion I booked for my week stay here. They offered transportation from my hotel(free) and picked us up early. It was a pretty good distance of a drive to get to the catamaran. On the catamaran they offered open bar but no free food. Make sure you eat breakfast before or you will be hungry since it did take 2 hours to get to the island. Boat ride was fun, they played good music. Once arriving to the island you get a buffet and open bar. You swim on the island for 2 hours then leave to snorkel for maybe 15 minutes. Overall it was awesome! I highly recommend you buy the pics they take, they edit them really great and teach you how to pose! I attached a pic for reference.

Fun long

Ernest_D, May 2022
The bus to the loading dock was fine. The party boat was fun! Two stops. The first is at a beach to view star fish and enjoy the chest high clear water! The second is at a different beach which the main part of the excursion. That beach was nice! The speed boat was fun! Snorkeling was fun! Make sure to bring your own snorkeling set just in case.

Trip was nice, beautiful...

Maribel_M, May 2022
Trip was nice, beautiful scenery and El Hindu from our boat/catamaran was very nice and funny. Only thing was getting to the speed boat took forever and it shorten our experience significantly

Response from Host, May 2022

hello mrs. matos, how so short your experience? because this tours has the same time. I mean the same time on the beach, the same time and the natural pool, and the same time Pat doing Snorkeling. I do not understand what you're referring to

Fun and exciting experience.

Cynthia_H, May 2022
The whole trip was fun. You got to experience multiple things. Speed boat to a sand bar off Saona Island for swimming, next stop snorkeling, then lunch. The food was good. I’m hen back on a part boat. No dancing shoes required, just Sanford or bare foot. Remember to tip. These people depend on tips to get by.
