Itinerary
Meet your guide and begin your communist history walking tour of Prague at the historic Powder Tower on Namesti Republiky, the meeting point of the city’s Old and New Towns. Listen to your guide’s commentary as you set out to explore the Old Town and piece together the key events of the country’s history. Hear about the formation of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, the dark days of Nazi occupation, and the liberation by the Russian Red Army in 1945.
Admire the monumental buildings of the Old Town Square and stand on the spot where Communist party leaders celebrated their victory in 1948. Pass historic points of interest including the Kotva shopping mall and the former headquarters of the secret police on Bartolomejska Street. Walk along Narodni Street, where students were massacred by state police in November 1989, and hear about the Prague Spring, when the Soviet Army crushed the nation's blossoming dreams of democracy in 1968, as you stand in Wenceslas Square.
If you upgraded to the longer tour, stop for refreshments at a local worker’s canteen, where you’ll have chance to sip a beer or sample popular Czech soda, kofola (own expense). Finally, enjoy the rare opportunity to explore inside a real nuclear bunker, dating from the 1950s.

I so wanted to do this an was not dissapointed learning from tour guide authentic interpretation. The 70s working canteen genuinely enjoyed the kofola . Going into the heavy steel reinforced doors an witnessing all the propaganda having once inside learning an seeing the equipment all explained the chambers an she took photographs of me once underground I crawled underneath Wenceslas street as the house on the street was bombed the hotel which has the underground nuclear bunker an trying the gears manually of the need for air to rid pollutants the rooms Inside the hotel an the listening devices of which somebody could monitor the conversations above the whole experience was amazing one of the best explanation of Vaclav havel an the tribute to the student whom set himself on fire an tragically died as was of protest from his injuries days later.

Hello Naomi, thank you for your lovely reference. It has been my pleasure to show you around Prague. I really enjoyed your excitement from the bunker and will always remember how you crawled out of the emergency exit ;D

Very interesting history, told in easy and relatable way. Bunker experience was great. Guide very knowledgeable and answered our many questions. Very impressed that the tour went ahead with just the two of us! Well worth the money.

Klara the guide was amazing, I went to another bunker tour last year which was ok but learnt more on this one and it felt more personal would book again if in Prague!
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Dear Julie, I am happy that you enjoyed the visit of nuclear bunker with me more than the other bunker last year. I always have small groups so I get to know my guests and the tour gets more personal. Thank you for your review. Regards from Klara

Klara gave a very informative, personal, and insightful tour. We learned quite a bit and really enjoyed our discussion between stops. Highly recommend!

Dear Mary Dee and Chase, thank you for your time coming back to me and writing such a lovely review. As I tokd you at the end of our walk, I trully enjoyed your company and talks. Thank you for sharing the Havel’s statue in DC with me… Perhaps see you over there one day :) Klara

This tour was excellent! Our guide Clara was a great storyteller & made the already interesting history of Prague & the Czech Republic... even more interesting. The nuclear bunker from the communist/Soviet era was fascinating & definitely had a few surprise perks. Be sure you include this part & the canteen lunch when you book your ticket, if you don't, Be sure you have cash to pay for tge experience. We sipped the canteen lunch but doled out cash for the bunker... It was the best part of the tour.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Dear Vanessa
I appreciate that you decided to extend the 2-hour option for the nuclear bunker and I noticed that your nephews enjoyed this part a lot. Thank you for highlighting that I am a great storyteller :))
Kind regards, Klara

I had a great time on the tour. My guide, Clara, was super friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. The bunker was very cool. Lunch at the canteen was a fun experience as well. Clara really made the tour memorable, she was awesome!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Dear Derek, I appreciate your review. I am happy that we eventually stopped for lunch in a canteen, so you could have the pork on paprika and potatoes and it reminded you your mum’s dish :)) You were great company too, it was my pleasure to show you around. Klara
Robert_M, Oct 2025
Our guide did a great job of explaining how the communist regime affected everyday life, in addition to the bigger picture political events. The bunker itself was very interesting... lots of great exhibits.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Dear Robert, thank you for your comment. I an glad you enjoyed our walk.
Kimball_C, Oct 2025
The groups were pretty small and personal. You get to learn a lot about Czechoslovakia during the Cold War and the many hardships the people here endured. I highly recommend our guide Klara as she was great and knowledgeable and really made this trip fun and educational.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Dear Komball and Lizzy, thank you for your reference :) Kind regards, Klara
Pamela_C, Oct 2025
Clara was very knowledgeable and also offered ideas for meals etc. The bunker was very interesting. Also the descriptions of the type of life people had in the Communist era was very enlightening. We had no idea how hard it was for the people. We were 6 people with her for the time. When we went to the canteen for lunch we all sat together and she helped us to pick out our meals. Prices were very reasonable and there was a special price for seniors. We never would have had the experience of eating here and eating typical Czech food without her help. Thank you Clara for such an enjoyable time.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Dear Pam and Dave, I appreciate your time you spent with writting this review. Having a meal together is one of my favourite part of the tour. Not only we could sit and eat together like one family, but sharing such an authentic restaurant from 70s makes me happy that you can experience it. And obviously you liked it a lot :) I wish you lovely journey! Kind regards, Klara

Very informative and interesting tour on rise and fall of communism in czeck republic. Guide had a lot of information including personal experiences and presented it in a way that was easy to follow. She also answered all of our questions and was easy to converse with.
Response from Host, Sep 2025

An unforgettable journey beneath the streets of Prague—this tour delivers real historical impact. The bunker, complete with authentic Soviet-era artifacts, feels eerie and intimately immersive . Guides like “L” or Stan bring the Cold War past to life with personal stories, wit, and deep insight. Visitors consistently call it a “must‑do,” especially for history buffs: “Definitely a 5‑star experience!” A few note the walking and narrow spaces may challenge those with mobility concerns. Overall, this bunker tour is a fascinating, well‑guided plunge into Prague’s darker history—highly recommend
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Thank you for your reference. To the bunker we take an elevator for going one level down and then we walk approximatelly 30 steps to second level bellow. So yes, certain mobility is exćected, but it is definitely manageable. Thank you for joining my walk. Klara

Klara was AMAZING! She was very knowledgeable. We learned SO much about Czech history. Also super fun getting to try on a gas mask and being "interrogated" by the secret police.

Great tour! Lots of interesting history as well as a very unique nuclear bunker experience. Our guide Leo was phenomenal!

The guide was at meeting point in good time. She took us through the history of the communist party in Prague. She made it understandable and interesting. Any questions we asked, she knew the answer to. The bunker was especially good and she made it fun alongside the seriousness of it. She was an exceptional guide.

Excellent history lesson for all. The guide was very informative and connected well with the audience, offering up humor at times.
Beccy_E, Jan 2025
We were lucky to be in a group of 4 people with our knowledgeable and interesting tour guide Clara. We had been wandering the streets of Prague for a few days already but to hear the history and be shown specific aspects really opened our eyes and enhanced our trip. We loved the route taken as it showed a slightly different side to what most tourists would see as we were in side streets and cuts that we wouldn't have taken as well as seeing the shopping arcades, canteen and Wenceslas Square. We loved the stories shared and really felt like we could feel the history around us. The bunker was fun and interesting to experience.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Dear Beccy, thank you for taking your time and writting such a lovely review. It is a pleasure to take my guests off the beaten track and to share the local perspective. I am glad that you were satisfied with the walk and bunker experience.
Yvonne_S, Dec 2024
This was a brilliant tour. Carla, our guide, was super knowledgeable and we got the social context as well as her historical perspective. It was illuminating! We were fortunate to have fellow tour group members who had also grown up behind the Iron Counter and that was an added bonus. The conversation was excellent - really recommend this tour. The bunker was great, as previous visitors have commented, but Carla brought something extra.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
What an illiminating review :) Thank you so much it. Klara
Benjamin_Z, Dec 2024
A great addition or add on to a city tour around Prague, very interesting to really learn about the local communism history in depth. The guide was extremely knowledgable. The highlight was a bunker visit at the bottom of a hotel in a well known location, you wouldn’t suspect was there. A very worthwhile tour if you want Prague old and new town history.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
Hello, I am happy that you added some modern history to your general sightseeing walks in Prague. It is important to share information how totalitarian system works, if not even more inportant than medieval ages on my personal opinion. So yes, thank you for joining me and learning about communism.
Regards, Klara

Guide was amazing. There was a problem with Viator, they canceled tour with guide. I have a current paid voucher. Guide worked with us to reschedule tour later. Time in bunker was personal as it was just us & guide.
Roxanne_A, Aug 2024
Leo was our extremely informative guide!!!! We truly enjoyed all his detailed and entertaining information. Leo was very willing to address whatever questions we had. I would recommend this tour if in Prague!
Scott_R, May 2024
The whole tour was memorable, but the bunker was the best part. So much history; must remember to avoid again.
Julio_A, May 2024
Really interesting stories from a local who grew up during communist Czechoslovakia. It's not a sightseeing tour per se, but you learn what this country went through in the 40s and 50s through their transition in the early 90s. Worth your time.
Dawn_R, Apr 2024
Leo was very knowledgeable in the Czech Republic’s journey through communism. He’s up to date and insightful on current affairs. The bunker tour was a great experience and extremely enlightening. I would definitely recommend this tour.
ORYITZHAK_N, Apr 2024
Leo the guide knew so much, and it was such a great experience. It was so cool...
It a very unique place that you can feel the history. It's like in a movie.
Kevin_C, Apr 2024
Fantastic tour made even better by our guide Leo. It was fun but also informative bringing to life the history of communism and its eventual fall. Thank you for a great experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn about the history of central Europe and beyond.

The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was exactly as described. I enjoyed it. I’m traveling alone and it was a nice way to meet people as well
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Dear Courtney, it was our pleasure to show you around and take you to less touristy places. Happy that you met fellow travellers on our tour :)
Iqbal_A, Jan 2024
Packed with information. We got lucky cause there’re only three of us (including the tour guide). Probably best to study the modern political history of Prague beforehand, we had the best time!
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hello, because our groups are usually small, there is plenty room to ask questions :) Thank you for writting us a review. Kind regards, klara.
