Itinerary

While your ship is in Mumbai, meet your private guide and separate driver at the portside and hop inside your private, air-conditioned vehicle.

Your tour itinerary is flexible, allowing you to choose up to five sites to visit (see Itinerary for available attractions). When you book, note your chosen sites so your route and itinerary can be pre-planned. Your tour includes entrance fees, with food and drinks at your expense.

Perhaps start at the Gateway to India, the stone archway built for the 1911 visit of King George V and Queen Mary, but not finished until 1924. Gaze at the huge arch and see the famous Taj Hotel standing nearby. Then, perhaps take a drive along the coastal road of Marine Drive for an overview of Mumbai’s scale.

Next, maybe visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. Learn how this cultural showpiece was formerly called the Prince of Wales Museum, and view the stunning collections of artworks and artifacts.

Perhaps delve into India’s 20th-century history at the Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum, a former home of Gandhi, or check out the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, Mumbai’s open-air public laundry, where dhobis (laundrymen) wash thousands of garments. See the wash pens and learn how the clothes are soaked in boiling starch before drying.

You may also want to visit the Dharavi slum, a vast maze of lanes, ramshackle huts, and tiny industries making pottery, plastics, and embroidered clothes. Explore the alleyways to see how the residents live — a humbling experience.
