My family and I were in Mumbai for a long layover and decided to take a tour to get a feel for the city.
I can highly recommend this experience for those wanting a quick stop tour of Mumbai’s key highlights. It was very informative and also flexible to our needs.
Moreover, the tour guides were fantastic! Shruti and JQ did a great job of bringing us around the key sites of the city whilst Dhiraj made us extremely comfortable exploring the Dharavi neighbourhood. These guys deserve five stars!

Excellent day out. Guide very friendly and knowledgeable nothing was too much trouble.
Kept us hydrated throughout the day

Both the guide and driver were excellent. Both spoke very good English and were easy to understand. Our guide Shvuti made us feel right at home - reminded me of my daughter! She was very knowledgeable and had a book with great pictures. JQ was our driver who was also very helpful explaining things. I wish we’d had them both for all our tours in India! I wish we’d were here longer so I could book another tour with them!
Our guide through the Dharvi Slums was also excellent. She was very attentive to everyone in the group - speaking to us individually!
It was a long day but worth every minute!

Great experience of night life in the crowded city. Food was amazing and way abundant. Guide very good at getting us safely through crowds.

Aryan our guide was AMAZING. He was very knowledgeable and helpful, with a warm personality. He is definitely an asset to the team. He was kind and helpful with my mother and always knew where to take us for a little rest break. Shamsher our driver was great as well. He provided us with snacks, water, and always made us feel safe while driving. This tour is definitely a must if you want to learn more about Mumbai history, get a tour of the city, and visit the slums all while learning about their way of living.

Wonderful. Guide very good. An experience never to be forgotten.
Great level of detail and very knowledgeable explaination.

Great staff friendly and helpful, we were on a trial of just using the driver then meeting many different guides in each location. This worked well for us. Well organised
Brett_B, Nov 2025
My 2 guides (one for main tour and one for slum) named Nema and Sneha both were excellent. I would give Nema 5 stars and Sneha 10 stars.
Adam_S, Nov 2025
We had a very enjoyable and varied day on this tour. Aryan was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city and made the day for us. As the day was so varied, it was a busy tour, but not at a rushed pace and we covered many places which we were promised in the booking literature. The driver Sultan made the moving from place to seamless and this made the day much easier. I would fully recommend this tour.
Neil_R, Sep 2025
Shritsu and Ishmael were our guides Both were knowledgeable and accommodating. We were given a comprehensive tour of Mumbai
David_P, Sep 2025
Great to see Mumbai in one tour including the slums. Great tour guides Sneha, Neha and Hassan the driver. Would recommend if you’re visting
Greg_C, Aug 2025
Sneha a born n bred Dharavi local showed us her unique and interesting world. Both commercial and residential parts of this vibrant community.
Eline_S, Apr 2025
The girls where both very nice who did the tour.
She knew a lot to tell you about the slums and she was full of energy to tell you everything about it, and the city tour guide was super sweet, but I don’t really know what I did see or didn’t see, I missed the background stories. Or it was hard to follow for me.
Anyways; It was way too expensive for what you get!!! For this amount of money I had expected a full tour with lots of (background) information and things you can’t find in a book… it was a nice day but I would not rate it for €120,- it was worth 20€ and I would rather give it directly to the girls and driver…

What we received was not what we booked. It was chaotic, the tour operator did not provide what we booked and viator were unhelpful in trying to resolve the problem. We booked a tour with a guide but there was no guide. Thank goodness our driver was lovely and tried hard to help but he was unable to give us the same experience a guide would have.
We should have had a guided tour of the open air laundry but only got to view it from above. We should have had a ferry ride but that didn't happen. We didn't go into Crawford market which was on our itinerary.
The chat with viator resolved nothing. They took a long time to understand that a guide was booked but not provided, then said they couldn't get through to the operator and gave me the phone number to call them myself.
Very disappointing as there were some amazing sights and we had really hoped to see understand more about the history and culture of the city.
I would advise people not to book this tour.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
We understand that the situation at the cruise terminal was hectic due to the arrival of over 4,000 travellers. Unfortunately, it appears there was a mix-up, and you mistakenly joined another tour company that only provided a driver, whereas our service includes both a guide and a driver.
Our guide and driver were present at the designated meeting point, but as you were not located, you were marked as a no-show. We had previously shared instructions on where to meet at the cruise terminal, but given the rush, we understand how this confusion may have occurred.
Nonetheless, we value your experience and have already processed a full refund. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the future.
Michael_M, Feb 2025
This was a comprehensive tour of this vast city. We hit all the high spots but the best was the Dharavi slum extension. The industry was amazing. It was a long day but well worthwhile!
Joan_P, Dec 2024
Very unorganized and not as described. We went to the slums first: that was very good. And then we had to fight with them and wait an hour for them to get another guide. We never had time for lunch.
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations.
The challenges you faced were unfortunately due to the high demand created by a cruise ship arrival in Mumbai that day. With thousands of passengers disembarking and seeking tours, the logistics of coordinating guides and transportation became unexpectedly difficult. This is not an excuse but rather an explanation of the unusual circumstances that impacted your tour.
We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the slum tour, but we deeply regret the delay in arranging another guide and the inconvenience this caused, including missing time for lunch. Please know that we are reviewing our processes to better manage high-demand situations like cruise ship days to ensure a smoother experience for our guests in the future.
We sincerely apologize for the disruption to your day and appreciate your understanding of the challenges we faced. If there’s an opportunity to host you again, we would love to provide the seamless and enjoyable experience we are known for.
Warm regards,

This is one of the best tours I have been on particularly the Dharavi Slums. You will witness the rise of the human spirit to overcome insurmountable odds. After the movie Slumdog Millionaire and the resulting tourists flocking to the slum these people have turned recycling plastics into a huge business where they make a variety of items such as clothes, backpacks etc. 1.2 million people live within 2 square kilometres . Our guide was an ‘untouchable’ who could now leave the slum but chooses not to as he wants to be near his family and enjoys the community spirit offered by its inhabitants. The money brought in by our tours goes to fund education for kids. As a result the people were happy and friendly towards us. A truly moving experience!

Full credit to Viator, the 10 seater Minibus broke down on route.
Swiftly he arranged taxis and guides and got us underway. ( This was ideal for the four in our group.)
What a fantastic trip they gave us across this amazing, chaotic, wonderfully varied City.
Our driver was so skilled and knowledgeable and took us safely to all the main places we wanted to see.
He got us back to the Cruise Port, tired but very happy.
I want to make a ‘special mention’ of ROOJA who took us around the Slum Area.
This was an amazing, enlightening and at times moving experience of a huge area of poverty but wonderful industry and commerce. She guided us skilfully around and knew so many people and the layout of this unique place. Her English, her enthusiasm and sheer lovely personality made this visit absolutely unforgettable. We wish her well in life this amazing young lady.
What a City, what a visit, we felt privileged to have witnessed the real India.
Peter_J, Dec 2024
To see this city and its diverse elements from old architecture to modern to slums, huge public laundries and mass population is a must.
To experience the friendliness with the obvious nod of the head synonomous with this region to those who just do not understand you even with English the second language is to be a major note on our long day that had a lot of walking and driving and the traffic chaos that still seems organised.
The Dahravi slums a separate part of the tour are simply amazing in their own sense. A diverse somewhat separate economy with recycling the major part of this separate city of 2 million impoversihed people within Mumbai itself is absolutely mind boggling. We did not feel unsafe at all with our local guide Anushka who guided us for this important part of our day. To have a local guide for this is essential. Her family arr from here.
Pollution is highly evident in the air and on the ground but with such a huge population and all be it efforts to reduce it still seems accepted as somewhat the norm.
Now to the organisers. Yes friendly but lack of professionalism and guidance at the beginning and during the day was evident.
The tour is not cheap at $115 to $120 Aud and a big delay in the beginning with going in cars to change to mini buses then change back to cars which to be honest in the end was a godsend.
Our driver Sheik who himself did not understand what was going on through no fault of his own got us through the day. Thanks to him for this and he had a good air conditioned car which was appreciated.
Yes accidents and mistakes happen and in a city like this are likely but the tour organisers could have tried a bit harder but if you want the whole day experience this tour appeared the best value especially compared to tours if booked on the ship.
Should you do it? A big yes and you will be impressed even with some hassles and will feel somewhat fortunate when you return to your ship or hotels accommodation.
Thank you to Mumbai and its people for this experience as well you are an amazing city.
Hazel_B, Dec 2024
Booked for 8.00 driver turned up at 9-15 after hotel contacting them several times. There was no separate tour guide only a driver whose English was very hard to understand. He didn’t give us any information at all and we had to ask him Questions which the answers were never understood. This was certainly not the experience we booked and feel let down by them. The tour of the slum area was good however as we were guided by a different person.
Response from Host, Dec 2024
I want to extend my sincerest apologies for the issues you encountered during your recent tour with us. It's clear from your feedback that we did not meet the high standards we set for our services, and for this, I am truly sorry.
Firstly, I regret that the driver arrived late and that this caused a delay in starting your tour. This is not the level of punctuality we strive for, and we are reviewing our coordination and communication procedures to ensure this does not happen again. The delay was partly due to the unexpected congestion and logistical challenges associated with a cruise ship day, which we admittedly could have managed better.
Additionally, I am concerned to hear about your experience with the driver who was meant to guide your tour. Our intention is always to provide knowledgeable and articulate guides who enhance your experience with rich insights and engaging stories about Mumbai. It appears we missed this mark, and I am looking into why a trained guide was not provided as expected.
However, I am glad to hear that the slum tour portion met your expectations, thanks to the specialized guide who led that part of your journey. This shows the level of service we aim to provide consistently and reinforces what we need to uphold throughout all aspects of our tours.
As a gesture of our commitment to customer satisfaction and to address the inconvenience you experienced, we would like to offer you a partial refund or a complimentary tour on your next visit. We hope this can in some way make up for the disappointment and provide an opportunity to deliver the experience you originally anticipated.
We appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to improve our services. Please let us know how you would like to proceed regarding the refund or a future tour, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any more comments or require further assistance.
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you better in the future.
Warm regards,

Sneha and Neha were great tour guides. They were very helpful in ensuring we had a customised tour and spent the necessary amount of time in each interesting places.
Karen_L, May 2024
We had an awesome day exploring the many sights of Mumbai with Aryan and Shamsher. Or guide Aryan is so knowledgeable and shared many interesting and informative facts about the city. Shamsher carefully drove us around the very busy streets of Mumbai and we felt very safe exploring the city with both of them. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants a personalized experience of this very interesting place!
Aubrey_W, May 2024
I booked a private tour but only half of my tour was private. I was met 30 minutes late and then waited on a car for an additional 30 minutes. The owner or manager was very rude. He told me to be happy with what I got because of the amount of cruisers. The night before I was told my tour wouldn’t be private so I canceled. The company followed up that they could do a private after all. I book private tours for a reason, I’m an in shape 42 year old who likes to move fast and do as much as possible. If I pay for a private tour I expect to be on a private tour.
Harmin_R, Apr 2024
Very good experience overall! Neha did a good job of showing us around Mumbai. The Dharavi tour was also interesting. Thank you for showing us around
angelastapleton, Mar 2024
This tour was an absolute shambles! Our driver spoke little English, didn't know we had paid for lunch, and did not give us any history whatsoever of the supposed stops, of which in the end we saw 5 of the 15 shown in the itinerary on the Viator, those being the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, the Hanging Gardens, the Railway Station and the Dhobi Ghat (which was being dropped at a viewing platform for 10 minutes). I blame the tour company here - not the driver - for putting a totally unsuitable and unprepared person to drive us around all day. It wasnt a cheap trip either and we are unlikely ever to return to Mumbai to visit all the places we missed. I must say the visit to the Slum included in this tour was first class, I believe the guides name was Varsha who spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable about the slum - this part of the tour was excellent. I'd advise to do the slum and the city tour separately, or indeed get a taxi into the city centre for a fraction of the cost of this tour and look at the monuments yourself. Apart from the slum that was what we got!
David_C, Mar 2024
All the historic site we were taken too were great. The explanation of the recycling industry in the slums was amazing. The lunch (actually dinner) with guides family let us get to know the locals.
brian_p, Feb 2024
Terrible at the beginning, it was chaos trying to find the guide,
Had to wait ages in the heat for everyone to arrive,
David_W, Feb 2024
Both guides, Shrudi (city) and Varsha (for Dharavi Slums) were great. Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Sultan (driver) did an exceptional job. The highlight was the slum tour. This tour covers many places/attractions. But the traffic in Mumbai is terrible. Be prepared to spend good amount of time in the car.
Vivien_C, Feb 2024
Magical Mumbai Tours accepted and confirmed our booking and took our money for an 8 hour private tour of Mumbai City & Slums. We arrived to find that due to demand, they had changed it to a group tour with 27 other people, with no warning or refund. Some others had received an email or text, but others like us, had no warning until we arrived at the meeting place, by which time it was too late to make other arrangements.
After waiting one hour in the hot sun whilst they dealt with all the unhappy private tour customers and arranged us into groups, we travelled one hour in an old bus with broken seats to the slum area. We were then taken to a coffee shop with one toilet and told to buy anything we needed for the day as there would be no lunch break. By this time it was 1235 pm. After waiting for everyone to use the toilet, we started the slum tour at 1320 and our guide was excellent, though the tour was again 2 hours in hot sunshine with no food or toilet stop.
The slum tour wasnt just our group, but others who had joined by taxi or car and at the end of the tour we then stood around for a further 1 hour whilst they located our bus, found transport for those by taxi and car and the rest of our group returned from their tour and found the bus. By this time it was 1635 with no drink or toilet stop (4 hours).
We were then taking the 1 hour back to the cruise terminal so that those who had booked the slum tour only could get off and advised that the City Tour would take a further 4 hours.
By this point, 7 hours into our 8 hour tour, only having seen the slums, no toilet stop and the prospect of a further 4 hours without water or food, most people exited the tour.
On asking about a refund, our fellow customer was told that there would not be one.
Magical Mumbai Tours have definitely damaged the Viator brand and should be removed from their website.
Jill_A, Feb 2024
We had a very extensive tour through the Dharavi Slum with Varsha. She was so great. Young woman who lives in the slum so knew so much. She was very attentive to all our questions. Crossing the street was challenging and she kept us together like a mother duck. She did so much more that just show us sites... she gave us insight into life in the slum. It was an enlightening experience that I'm so glad I went there. We spent over 2 hours walking and exploring. The people there were very friendly, especially the children. I highly recommend this part of the tour and especially Varsha.
The second part of the tour was with Ashab. Ashab was very knowledgeable in the places we went. Between him and our driver, we were able to make stop and take pictures easily at really great places. He took us into Crawford Market and it was great to be with a guide in there. I highly recommend this tour.
