Experience the thrill of riding an ATV along tracks in the Costa Rican rain forest during this exhilarating half-day activity from La Fortuna. You'll be transferred to a private farm situated next to Arenal Volcano National Park, and receive instruction from your guide on operating the ATV. - The minimum age to drive an ATV is 14 years old. The minimum age for passengers is 5 years old, and they must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- It is required to wear closed shoes for the activity.
- We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and bringing a change of clothes if needed.
- This is not a private activity; it is a group experience shared with other participants.
- The volcanic mud activity is an open, natural experience. The mud is extracted directly from the river and is not a spa service.
- Regular rain in La Fortuna is not a reason to cancel the tour, as it is part of the tropical rainforest experience.
- In case of thunderstorms, we will wait up to 30 minutes after the scheduled tour time, since they usually last between 15 and 30 minutes. If conditions do not improve after this period, the activity will be modified or canceled.
- For scheduled pick-ups, we kindly ask you to be ready at the agreed time. We can wait up to 5 minutes, and after that, the reservation will be marked as a no-show and the full amount will apply.

- To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, we include a short practice ride before the tour. If a participant is not able to drive safely, they can still enjoy the experience as a passenger within their group. - The arrival at the river may be hindered by weather conditions, in which case this part will be skipped, and an alternative trail will be followed.

If you're looking for adventure, stunning scenery, and a good dose of mud, this ATV tour is a must-do! We had an amazing time exploring both on and off farmland – zooming through trails, splashing through river crossings, and even stopping for a refreshing swim in the river. The route was perfect, mix of mud and fun. The best way to see Costa Rica.
Our guide Randal was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, super friendly, and made sure everyone felt safe and confident throughout the ride. He shared great insights about the land and local wildlife, adding a cultural touch to the adrenaline-filled experience.
Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to get off the beaten path and see the real Costa Rica in a fun, adventurous way!

We had a fantastic time in Costa Rica overall, but our experience with this ATV tour in La Fortuna was very disappointing because of how an accident involving my wife was handled.
My wife clearly told the guides at the start that she had never driven an ATV before. The basic controls and safety instructions were explained, but there was no specific guidance for a complete beginner on how to handle the vehicle across difficult terrain. Very soon after the tour started, she became concerned that the steering was not very responsive, but before she could raise this with the guides, who were not close by, she hit a bump on very rough ground and the ATV toppled over. She was able to jump clear just in time, but this could easily have caused a serious injury.
We feel this situation could have been avoided with better supervision, an easier section to begin with, and a chance to test the ATV before being taken into more challenging terrain. It also seemed possible that there may have been a mechanical issue with the vehicle, which might have been identified sooner if there had been an opportunity to check it properly at the start.
What made the experience even worse was the response after the accident. There was very little concern shown for my wife’s safety, and the focus was instead on damage to the vehicle. Rather than offering support or reassurance, the guide immediately said we would need to pay for the damages and that the waiver meant all responsibility lay with us. When I tried to challenge this and discuss a fairer resolution, I was threatened with the police rather than any attempt to negotiate or meet us halfway. There was no willingness to find a reasonable compromise, which felt unnecessarily aggressive and completely lacking in customer care.
We understand waivers have their place, but that should not remove the operator’s duty to provide a safe experience or to show basic care after an incident. We have had many great experiences in Costa Rica and elsewhere, but this one fell far below the standard we would expect from a professional tour operator. The lack of empathy, safety oversight, and flexibility was very disappointing, and we hope the operator takes this feedback seriously so that other tourists do not have the same experience.

At Original Arenal ATV, safety is our top priority. Before each tour, all participants receive a safety briefing and a practice session to become familiar with the ATV controls, regardless of their experience level. Our guides are always present along the route to supervise the group.
As this is a driving activity on natural terrain, we always emphasize the importance of maintaining full attention while operating the ATV. In this case, the incident occurred shortly after the tour began when the vehicle left the designated trail and encountered uneven terrain, which resulted in the ATV tipping over. The route is designed to be accessible and is used daily without issues by participants of all experience levels.
Immediately after the incident, our team followed established safety protocols. Your wife was assisted right away, asked about her condition, and she confirmed that she was okay. She was offered further assistance, including transportation and the option for a medical evaluation, which she declined. A guide then ensured she was safely returned while the rest of the group continued the tour.
Regarding the ATV, it was later inspected and confirmed to be in proper working condition, with no mechanical malfunction identified.
We understand that situations like this can be stressful, and we regret if our communication at the moment felt abrupt. However, the damage policy is explained in advance and acknowledged as part of the waiver signed prior to the activity.

It was a great experience for families who are new to ATV’s. Our guide did a great job giving us instructions before we headed out. We brought my 9 and 11 year old and they had a blast! We stopped long a river for a snack and to swim. My kids and I loved body sliding the rapids. The mud mask was also a delight, my skin has never felt so soft.

This ATV tour was an excellent value for the money. The experience lasted several hours, which made it feel like a full adventure rather than a short ride.

It was fine, maybe I didn't read the description well enough but we didn't really explore the volcano or anywhere really near it. The mud mask was genuinely nice, don't skip that part. If they sold the mud in jars I would have grabbed some. The ride was a little short and because you're going with other random people if you have any experience with atvs you may be disappointed because you can only go as fast as the people who are learning how to ride. If I was someone who has never rode Atvs this would be a great tour to get the hang of Atvs. Don't wear shoes you care about and bring extra socks. The hosts were very nice and the short swim we had was also very cool.

I had so much fun and I saw beautiful views of the volcano. This was my first time on a ATV but they gave me clear instructions on what to do. Tip: Wear water shoes. There’s a river in the tour and someone in my group was smart enough to bring them. I was jealous they could get in the water.

The 2 guides we had were amazing and gave clear instructions on how to operate the ATVs. We stopped at 3 locations for pictures/rest/snacks/mud mask. As a first time ATV rider, the course was easy to get through with only a couple people getting stuck 😂

We thoroughly enjoyed this activity, which was both enjoyable and well organised. The fresh pineapple tasting was an excellent bonus and really added to the experience. We were also able to observe a sloth and its predatory birds, which made the experience even more memorable. However, the helmets were damp and had an unpleasant odour, which is something that could be improved. That said, the guides were very professional and attentive from start to finish.

Excellent and fun overall. Its more about atv then seeing volcano. Andreas did a great touring job and helped tons. His partner- forgot name- was excellent too- taking with our camera hundreds of pics. The dirt paths werent so dirty not wear water shoes and your feet will be soaked. We did the 3pm tour with Randy. There were only 3 of us plus the tour guide and it was awesome! Randy spotted so many animals we would’ve never seen on our own. We got to ATV on all different terrain. He explained how to use the ATV very well and we felt safe. It was a great experience and we had a blast.

It was really fun to ride through the farm and through mud puddles. I loved hearing my daughter's laughter as we went through puddles. On the way back we stopped for water and pineapple. Really yummy. It was so fun for all of us.

What a wonderful experience! It ended up being my husband and I with our wonderful guide Randall. It poured rain but honestly it’s what made the experience absolutely epic. Randall took us through muddy paths and through beautiful farm land. He was amazing making sure to grab photos of us along the way. He has a real passion and really loves what he does and it just radiates off of him. Randall made sure we were safe and felt comfortable by taking us on a small practice path before hitting the trails. Excellent overall and I would highly recommend, just be prepared to get wet and dirty!

Randy was THE BEST. Everyone in Costa Rica is amazing and helpful, but Randy was a standout of spirit, information, confidence and fun. Andres was great! He took his time making sure that everyone was well informed about safety and how to properly work their ATVs. The route was a good mix of terrain and we had good mud because of the rain the day before. Keep in mind that mud doesn’t mean that you are going to get splashed all over(just mostly your lower leg and feet. We wore swimming trunks and water shoes which was perfect for us(just a little work to set the gears, which didn’t have to be changed that frequently). We ended the hour with a nice Volcanic mud face mask. I d definitely recommend this tour.

This was a fantastic private four wheeling tour. It was too cloudy to see the volcano, but we enjoyed water crossings, river splashing, animals, and volcanic mud!

Such a great event! The hosts were very kind and took time to make sure everyone felt comfortable in the ATV’s. We had non experienced riders, first time riders and experienced riders. Everyone had fun seeing the rain forest and riding through rivers, trails, and some mud. Can’t say enough good about our hosts. Tour with locals!! Great price and great tour! Would definitely do again. High recommend!

Andres was very nice and made sure everyone was safe. It was me and my girlfriends first time riding and we were able to complete the course. We were able to connect with the others doing the activity when we took a break and Andres gave us fruits, cookies and water. Would recommend again.
