Very easy and fun way to make a special souvenir of your trip. We really enjoyed the museum after our lesson and purchased a purse for my mom and samue for my dad.

    A Nice Time

Boy, was this a lot of fun!! I had been looking forward to this class since I first registered for it. My husband and I each made a Sekka Shibori scarf…now I have two scarves. 😉. Everyone was so kind and helpful. And there was even a nice “unveiling” ceremony of our product at the end of the class. As the staff was packaging up our scarves, we were invited to go upstairs to the museum/shop and watch a short film about the history of Shibori. As with all crafts, it’s a dying art, unfortunately. We also had a private tour of the museum by the owner, who is a fabulous artist in his own right. I would highly recommend taking this class and meeting all the lovely artists/staff who take great pride in their work.

This was really fun and we are proud of our beautiful scarves. We highly recommend this experience. Shibori is a traditional art in Japan and we learned about the different techniques which can be very intricate and fascinating. The instructors were knowledgeable, welcoming and easy to understand.

fab workshop. we were guided by someone very skillful and kind. It was so exciting to see how good our finished scarves were. Thankyou Kyoto Shibori Museum

Easy, fun workshop, friendly patient staff.

This was a great workshop if you want a hands on experience. Lovely instructors and the process has been modernised/simplified for tourists so you’re not spending hours tying little bits of fabric. You end up with a beautiful silk scarf to take away. The museum is also very interesting.

    Amazingly Fun and Simple

The course was a waste of time as you don’t do anything. The museum is tiny but interesting. I recommend the museum, as a short break from the bustling streets

    A very special experience

Lovely, and the museum is extremely interesting. The materials you work with are quite high-quality, and the selection of projects is excellent. I am very happy with my scarf and I enjoyed shopping there as well.

The staff were extremely helpful and excellent. We had a great time creating silk shibori scarves and now have a greater appreciation for the art of shibori.

    Great memorable experience

    Kay_F, Oct 2023
It was a small class size so there was easy to follow instructions. The scarves turned out beautifully and the museum was very interesting with unbelievably beautiful shibori artwork. We were also able to purchase shibori treasures. A definite highlight of our Kyoto trip.

Much more than a scarf, a magnificent ancient tradtional art.

Our family of 5 expected to be making shibori scarves as a take home, but Yokahama-san and the others at this amazing workshop, shop and museum gave us much more. We learned about the painstaking craftmanship that goes into every work, saw amazing large and small scale examples of it and could better understand the craft's importance in Japan's history. Great explanatory video and show-and-tell also. Thank you so much

    Easy crafting program

Very easy craft to make and take home. Nice museum and historical video to watch afterwards. Handmade crafts in gift shop.

    So fun!

    Jennifer_H, Oct 2019
This is a great and quick class. I was the only person in our session and Nina guided me through making my Shibori scarf in an informative and fun way. I would take it again and would recommend it to anyone wanting to dip their toe in the Shibori-making waters. The museum is also so interesting! So many beautiful pieces to look at. It's really an amazing art! Thank you!
