This is actually a 2-part experience. first you create your shibori dyed item, then while its drying you walk through the museum upstairs. I enjoyed the shibori dye process thoroughly and will make more items in the near future.

The experience was really fun, and it was so interesting to learn about the history of shibori. Come with extra money ...there are really beautiful things to buy.

Everything about this experience was worth it. It's a fun, family friendly environment with numerous individuals that speak English. My only comment is the dying, hands-on crafting portion is a little too standardized & easy. If you children are young or middle-aged, this is an ideal activity. For those of you in adulthood, the furoshiki is a great souvenir, but you may be underwhelmed with the crafting. The best surprise was the museum afterwards, which you can enjoy while your cotton creation dries. The employees working there shared details about all the pieces and how they were made. Our family spent twice as long just learning & enjoying the art. Their shop is also full of unique pieces that are perfect gifts for all females/styles. Overall, recommend the activity as a fun family experience, or just visit the museum, well worth it.

This was an absolutely delightful experience. Not only is the family so helpful and kind, but the museum is full of remarkable, beautiful textile art. My teens and I all really enjoyed the furoshiki dyeing class so much, and felt very welcome. We will happily do it again on our next visit to Kyoto, and until then, we will enjoy the beautiful piece of art we purchased from the museum!

This experience was so much fun! Folding and dying our own scarves while learning about the craft made for great family bonding time, and the museum tour after was fascinating. Our teachers were knowledgeable and engaging and took the time to thoroughly answer questions. We would definitely recommend this booking!

The Shibori Museum was awesome. The educational video, Passion and talent of the staff, and beauty of the art was a highlight of our trip. The activity of creating and dyeing the furoshiki was pretty quick and very straight forward.

I wasn’t sure if this was an experience that the instructors did for us or we were able to complete on our own. We did this class entirely on our own and the instructor was very detailed in how to fold and dye the fabric. This studio has been here for 85 years and they were very proud to show us around and explain the different techniques. I would come back here again and do something else.

I enjoyed the process of Shibori dyeing. While dyeing, we had a chance to see the Shibori Museum. There was a wonderful exhibition of the Shibori fabrics which was created by 50 artisans and took 50 years. Just amazing!!
