What a delightful day! Our tour started on a beautiful sunny day with our guide, William. What a nice young man with so much local knowledge. It was just me and my husband on the tour so we really had a lot of time to chat.
1st stop chowder - delicious!
2nd stop - oysters! You selected 3 oysters, all the same or different ones. I'm not a huge oyster fan so my husband chose 3 each of two varieties. I tried one of each and really liked the ones from PEI.
3rd stop - donairs. I'd never had one but really enjoyed the spiced sliced meat on a pita bread with the sweet donair sauce. The sandwich was HUGE, and I couldn't finish all of it.
4th stop - lobster rolls. Choice of warm with drawn butter, cold with mayo and celery or 1/2 and 1/2. We chose one hot and one cold. Again, a lot of food and we wrapped up half of each to bring home (along with the pickles and chips)
5th stop - ice cream! It was a great, fun little shop, but honestly after all the food we ate we couldn't eat more than a few bites of the ice cream.
This was a lot of food for what we paid and I highly recommend this tour if you're in Halifax.
And if you get William as your guide, that's an added bonus. He was terrific!

Food is very good mostly seafood. Some walking involved. My guide Layton was excellent. I was actually on the tour myself

It was a nice walk and all the food was good. I even got to experience a new food, the donair. Our guide discussed history and architecture, and had answers to our query.

We have done food tours all over the world and this one was at best underwhelming. I would put the blame squarely on the local organizers or owners. Our guide Stu, admitted that he had never done one before and had simply been told to take the group to five eateries. Not one of the places knew we were coming in advance and there was very little knowledge about the place or the food. We actually did most of the organizing. To his defense, I’m not sure whoever did the booking gave him any background. When prompted he had lots of knowledge about the history of Halifax but hadn’t been told to share any additional information but rather just take us to the food spots. It was also “sold” as an understanding about food and tips and recommendations about eating places. None of those were available. We went to five spots, three of which were within 40 meters of each other, so not much strolling. Again, I can’t blame the guide as he was set up for failure by the local organizers who obviously picked the places and who seemed happy to just take the money and not give any information or preparation to the guide. We knew we were off to a tough start when we arrived at the first restaurant and the owner was surprised we didn’t have a reservation and allowed us how lucky we were and then our guide announced that he wasn’t really a good food person. On the plus side the food was all delicious and plentiful. Definitely if this tour was any indication of Viator tours in Halifax, I would not recommend this company!

Thank you for sharing such a detailed review. We’re very sorry to hear that your Halifax food tour did not live up to expectations. What you’ve described is certainly not the standard of experience we want to provide. Food tours should feel seamless, with guides prepared, and plenty of local insight along the way—not something that leaves you feeling like you had to organize it yourself.
We do want to acknowledge Stu’s efforts in sharing what he could about Halifax’s history, but you’re right—he should have been able to elevate the experience a bit more.
We’re glad you enjoyed the food itself, but we know the overall experience fell short, and we’ll be working closely with our guides to deliver both the food knowledge and cultural insights guests deserve.
We really appreciate your honest feedback—it helps us identify where we’ve missed the mark and make improvements so future guests have the authentic, engaging food experience they’re looking for.

Food is good. The guide makes all the difference in the experience and this guide doesn’t represent the company in a positive way.

We appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. It's wonderful that you enjoyed the food, but we're disappointed to hear that your guide fell short of providing you the See Sight standard experience. A personal, engaging and smooth tour along with insightful local guidance and commentary is how we want our guests to spend their time with us. We apologize for the letdown.
Thank you for letting us know, we will use it to reinforce our training and standards. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you back and show you the quality experience we’re known for.

The food was delicious and plentiful. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Don’t plan on eating dinner afterwards.

We’re so glad you enjoyed the food and that it left you more than satisfied. It’s great to hear your guide added even more with their knowledge of the city. On Food walking tours, we recommend our guests come hungry, Halifax has a reputation for its seafood and East Coast flavors that always impress! 🦞

We had a terrific food tour in Halifax with Evan. The food was great (especially the seafood chowder and the oysters) and Evan was very knowledgeable, not only about the food, but also about Halifax and its history. He explained in great detail the differences between the various types of oysters we were offered. By the time our tour ended, we were not only happily stuffed with great food, but also felt like we had taken a short course on the history of Halifax. And we appreciated his suggestion that we check out the Maritime Museum if we had time - we spent our last morning in Halifax there and didn’t regret it. We highly recommend this tour!

Our guide was very helpful and informative. We very much enjoyed all our stops. Would very much recommend the tour.
Gail_K, Oct 2024
All five stops on our tour were delicious and unique local businesses. Eme, our guide, shared a lot of local history during our walk. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would return to each of the restaurants we sampled.

3 couples were on a cruise together seeing the Fall Colors. We decided that Halifax would be a terrific place to try seafood. We were not disappointed! Our guide, Emine, was wonderful. Her knowledge of Halifax and the general area was outstanding. She took time to explain each place we visited. The food was wonderful and well chosen by our guide. The only suggestion I can make is to let guests know that the food walk may be longer because each item we tasted was made at the time of order. Especially with the shell food and busy season, each item was shucked individually. Overall, an OUTSTANDING value and experience.

Not a good tour. Did not have reservations at any stop. One food stop had to send us away and have us return an hour later. Our final stop was “closed”. We all departed the tour without having the final stop.
Brian_H, Sep 2024
We’ve been on many walking tours and we have never had a tour company completely ignore the notes we made about one of us being vegetarian. Not only that, but once we alerted the tour leader to this, they did NOTHING to accommodate this. So one of our party ate double and the other left starving. What a waste! Again, not our first walking food tour. But it is our first negative review!
Carol_B, Sep 2024
The food selections on the tour provided a good overview of Halifax cuisine, and all were delicious. The tour guide shared a lot of local history and color, and it was nice walking around the waterfront.
Alissa_M, Sep 2024
Our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable about the area, and seemed to want to get to know us. She set expectations up front for mobility needs and dietary restrictions and gave good recommendations. We could have done without the donair stop, which was not somewhere we would have ever stopped in due to appearance/cleanliness
Cheryl_B, Sep 2024
Very fun experience with guide, Emmy, sampling different foods unique to Halifax. It was more fun than just going out to dinner locally. She was also very informative about local history. We both enjoyed it very much!
James_S, Sep 2024
We had time constraints that meant we could not stay longer than the scheduled two hours. At the end of two hours, we were waiting for food at our third stop and had two more stops to go. It seemed as if the restaurant were not prepared for the tour group and we had to wait a long while at each stop. This really should have been advertised as a three hour tour or the restaurants should be prepared for the tour group
Cheryl_B, Aug 2024
The lobster roll at Dave's! It was the best lobster roll I have ever had and was the best one in all of our travels through the Canadian Maritimes.

Jack was a very good guide. And the food was all great. A nice selection.
He did a really great job.

Evan was a very good guide. We had a great time and had some amazing food! We also learned a lot of interesting history about Halifax.
Alison_G, Aug 2024
Oh my gosh! This was such a great tour! The food was great and there was so much of it. Our guide, Evan, had such interesting information about the food and history of Halifax. We all loved it.

Our tour was fantastic mainly because of our guide William Flood. He was so knowledgeable and friendly… we really enjoyed his easy manner. The food was very good too… a lot of it👍❤️

Our guide Jack was very good. However the startup of the trip was rocky with the start time of the tour being delayed by an hour without notice to us. We waited for an hour and found out there was a delay after calling the tour co. Not very acceptable way to treat clients by the back office.
WernerGeorg_K, Jul 2024
Great knowledgeable guide who also provided good historical context, not only about the food we tasted but also about the history of Halifax.
Carly_W, Jul 2024
Mack was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very engaged with the group! We were pleasantly stuffed by the end with all the delights Halifax has to offer!
Cindy_S, Jul 2024
We had an amazing time with Andrew as our guide. He was fun, easy to be with, and very knowledgeable. Every stop we made was incredible. Some of the best chowder ever! We loved the twist on the lobster roll at Sea Smoke so much that we went back the next day to try other things. We’ve done a lot of food tours and never left as full as we did on this one! Well worth the money! We really appreciated Andrew’s time and attention; we asked a lot of questions about Nova Scotia and Canada and he taught us so much!
Bill_B, Jun 2024
Andrew was an excellent tour guide. He was funny, knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning about Halifax very much. He had great stories to tell which were amusing and interesting. The food was disappointing. We have used aviator many times and this was the first one we’ve been on that didn’t give high quality products. The chowder was very mediocre and we felt the lobster in the lobster roll was frozen lobster. We thought Viator would want to showcase NS seafood in a memorable way but that was not our experience.
carol_b, Jun 2024
We loved all the food and restaurants. Our guide, Jack, was great. We had a big group, so it was hard for him to keep everyone's attention. But, he did a super job.
Linda_L, Sep 2023
We had a great time sampling food in the harbor area of Halifax Sarah and Susie knew so much about the area. It was fun and FILLING! We had all kinds of delicious quality food. And learned a lot about the area.
Gary_P, Sep 2023
Great tour. Great food and lots of it. Nice tour guide. She made sure that we had a great experience even if it went beyond the 2hrs.
Stuart_W, Aug 2023
Sarah, our guide for the group of five was absolutely fantastic. She was super knowledgeable, quite funny and just pleasant. We felt like we had been friends for life, even though this was the first time we met her. She was very open for questions and always knew the answers. I highly recommend this tour as a great way to learn about Halifax both inside and out.
