Small tour - 5 people plus local knowledgeable driver/tour guide in newer Suburban suv. Spent 2 hours at Pegg’s Cove - had lunch at Tom’s restaurant known for their lobster rolls! Casual conversations on ride out and back focus on Halifax, Canada and anything in between. Great experience not replicated in large bus tours!
Pickup and drop off at pier our cruise ship was…
The vehicle used by the tour was unacceptable. Four adult guests in a Hyundai Santa Fe is unacceptable. My wife had to sit in the middle of the back seat. She could see nothing. Driver was OK.
This tour never happened. Although we've had good experiences with Viator in the past, this one was a bust. The path to finding the tour was in seeking an alternative excursion option. We scheduled early. Viator was aware of our cruise ship and schedule. Ultimately, they deflected all questions to the provider HFX Limo of Halifax and took no responsibility beyond that. The problem was that our ship had an arrival schedule of 8:00am and the tour was scheduled for 8:00am. The meeting was scheduled at the port. I used the Viator messaging to HFX three months before the tour to question the timing. I asked if there was any issue regarding our 8:00am ship arrival. There was no response from HFX whatsoever. So, I called Viator and was reassured there would be no problem. Based on that and previous experience over decades with cruise tour providers, I assumed the tour provider would accommodate the ship disembarkation times. It is well known that passengers are not immediately allowed to disembark from the ship as soon as it is docked. So, it is very strange this reservation was allowed to happen if the local operator would not follow the ship schedule. Two ships arrived at the port at the exact time of 8:00am. So, an 8:00am tour would be expected to wait. Viator was very clear to give instructions to ship passengers about the meetup location. No conflict in schedule was noted. So, it was a shock that while in line to exit the ship, HFX texted they could no longer wait for us. To top it off, I called Viator and they immediately jumped to "no refund", rather than apologize for failure or to seek remediation. Having determined this to be a no-go, we immediately decided to do a self-guided walking tour of the city. It was a good alternative and I highly recommend it. Viator still refuses to refund. Cruise passengers should be aware that Viator does not take any responsibility for the practices of their providers. I advise all tour operators to have awareness of port schedules in their planning. Viator should have oversight of their operators. Why would a tour operator have a pickup at the port that does not match the docking schedules of any ships that day? Very strange. Zero stars for both Viator and HFX Limo on this one.
Great communication, our driver Jay was friendly and attentive and was able to give us additional info on the area during the journey.
Awesome tour, small group and our tour guide Jay was beside very knowledgeable, professional also very pationate and eger to share his love of country and people.
Wasn’t happy being stuck in the back of a midsize SUV that I had to climb over the back seat to get to. Since at 62 I was the youngest in the car I guess I was more nimble than the others. Very uncomfortable. It was more just a drive to the site than a tour. Unfortunately it rained and was cold so not much to do there than to look at overpriced merchandise. Lighthouse and surrounding area was pretty. Driver was fine.
If you’re visiting here on a cruise ship, I would recommend this excursion. It takes about four hours. This particular one is a very small group. Our driver Iqbal did a fantastic job of driving us there and back and mixing in stories and conversation to pass the time and interesting facts about the area. The area around Peggy’s Cove is really interesting to walk around and picturesque. Recommend.
Peggy’s Cove was absolutely beautiful and we had perfect weather on September 14, 2026. Our driver Jay, was a pleasure. He was on time, respectful, and courteous. I would suggest a quick photo stop at the highest point of the city instead of just a drive pass.
Our Viator booking for Peggy‘s Cove departing at 8:00 AM in Halifax was an unfortunate one as our ship was only due to arrive at 8:00AM. And as disembarkation barely begins at 8:45, that trip was an impossibility to start with. This should have been understood by tour professionals. And as a result, our driver bailed out and we were left with no alternative to get to Peggy‘s Cove and enjoy our day. Looking forward to a swift refund of our ticket costs. I would hope others are never placed in the same position relative to arrivals in Port and the beginning of expeditions for the day.

Thank you for your feedback. Our driver was there for the scheduled 8:00 AM departure and waited approximately 30 minutes. Once we learned the ship’s disembarkation timing would prevent you from making the tour, we offered the 10:00 AM departure as an alternative, which was declined.
We always do our best to accommodate cruise passengers and offer the next available tour whenever possible.
So great to have 2 hours of free time at Peggy’s Cove! Iqbal had great recommendations for food! Dropped off right at the lighthouse!
Jay was an exceptional tour guide, concientious and knowledgeable. We both thoroughly enjoyed his thoughtful insights and his tour was very informative
Our driver Rana was fantastic. His knowledge of the area and history was amazing. Rana took time to explain all aspects of Peggy’s Cove as well as history around Halifax back to 1812. He engaged with each of his passengers, was kind, courteous and fun. His vehicle was clean and spacious allowing plenty of leg room for each person. We would recommend him to others for the Peggy’s Cove tour.
We drove in an SUV, so be prepared to split up between front and back seats. The other couple on the tour did not like being split and demanded that I take the front seat. The driver was very knowledge and enjoyable to ride with.
Beautiful lighthouse, get up close to take some great pictures. Even on the very stormy day for our visit, there were plenty of opportunities to take a variety of photos.
Our guide Rana provided ample area history insights which our group found interesting & relevant.
Beautiful village, friendly driver who went out of his way to accommodate our special interests . Small group of 5 was so much better than a bus full.
Jay was knowledgeable of the area and its history. He was very good with the logistics of the tour and went the extra mile.
The driver was very personable and knowledgeable. Car held 5 people and it was challenging to get in and out of the back seat. Also 2 hours at Peggy’s Cove was too long but the raging wind might have an effect on that.
This was one of the best excursions on the cruise. The scenery was fantastic and the little fishing town was quaint with delicious lobster rolls.
We had a pleasant experience with the tour guide. Peggy's cove light house on the rocks is very picturesque.
Jay is an excellent guide. He contacted me ahead of time. We got back in time for my cruise ship. In between he gave an interesting version of the history of Halifax and Peggy’s Cove. As an added touch, he stopped along the road to pick fresh blueberries for us. I highly recommend Jay and this tour. BTW two hours in Peggy’s Cove is plenty.
Nav did a great job getting us to and from Peggy’s Cove with interesting commentary. If you only need to get there and back, an Uber would cost less.
This tour was essentially like an Uber ride to a destination. We had to find Omar, the driver, in the parking lot on during a cloudburst. He recited a few facts but it was clear he really knew nothing about Nova Scotia. He didn't stop anywhere along the way as he took us to Peggy's Cove. We had two hours to explore the lighthouse which was far too long. It was crowded and the few eateries were crowded and over-priced. The driver went to sleep in his van and we woke him up to go back.. It was an uninspiring trip, the worst excursion during our cruise.
Peggy's Cove is a delight. Picture perfect location. The whole experience was made so much better by our driver and guide Jay. We had a smooth and informative journey of just under an hour from the cruise terminal to our destination. Two hours at Peggy's Cove. Our time was made up of a walk to the Lighthouse, a bite to eat and time to explore and photograph this beautiful setting. On our return our guide Jay made us feel relaxed with his historical and local knowledge of the area, we also had time for a ride around the citadel with wonder views of Halifax. All in all a lovely day out
This was a shared vehicle with two others. Two hours at the cove was more than needed. Car ride was cramped and stuffy one hour each way . Driver provided good narrative.
Overall a great experience! Omar was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a great way to venture out to Peggy’s Cove.

Peggy's Cove was nice experience with the Lighthouse, Shops and Restaurant. Including our driver we had 6 people in a Toyota Highlander. It was very difficult to have all in the vehicle. It was also hard to understand the driver's accent sitting in back seat.

10000% take the 8am early tour. After that it gets incredibly busy with tourists and buses. We were able to have a quick breakfast and lots of time to explore before it got really busy.
It was a private journey with just 3 people, much better than bus journey with def higher cost effectiveness. Although the operator was late for a bit, he was very friendly and shared many impressive stories about Halifax with us. Appreciate it!
