I think that they should give the history of the ship before anything else. It's an incredible history and she is such a lovely ship she deserves to be known for her life story. Secondly, please turn down the volume of the entertainment. The sound quality was awful and because of that it was very difficult to talk to my partner or the other people around me. And there was no interaction from the staff with the passengers to tell us anything except for A bit about George's island. We saw a South Korean car carrier ship. Nobody said anything about it I had to look it up on Google. We saw the pilots that helped bring the ships into the harbor, nothing was said about that either. How about the history of the Halifax Harbour and how they used to have submarine nets underwater there for World War II, not a word was sad about the Halifax explosion. Like people come from around the world and they did not learn a damn thing except for George's Island on that whole trip. There are marvellous interesting things out there and just pointing out the fact that there are millionaires houses in the channel I'm sorry but who cares about that? Literally nobody cares about some guy's big bank account. But most of us do care about the history and I had to tell people around me the history of the ship. It would've been nice to have the interesting things that we were seeing around us be pointed out and talked about. Other than the too loud music and the lack of interaction I'd say it was good and I would recommend it because the ship herself is so lovely.

Really nice. The ship was magnificent. Nice live music throughout. Hardly any chatter—we could enjoy the water, sun, sail. Best of all: staff didn’t demand a tip at the end!!!!
carol_n, Jul 2026
We had a fabulous few hours. Definitely worth going. The only negative was we thought there would be a little more info on the sights.
Jeff_I, Jul 2026
Yes, there aren’t many of these proud ship left that are open to the public. The only thing I would recommend is to ease up on the volume of the live music. The ship, crew and harbour are the main event, music should be background.

No sails
Desiel engine all the way
Saw a seal in of the of the bays
Music was --ok -- I would prefer to listen to the wind and waves

Great view of Halifax Harbour and George’s Island. Friendly crew. It can get quite windy so be sure to bring a jacket.

The ticket is not clear about the departure, causing some confusion for many who went to the wharf in downtown Halifax. The race veiwing is distant and oblique and involves constant rotation of the ship, which departed the race prior to the end. The staff were very helpful and as aboat ride it is reasoable but if one wants to watch the race, consider a different option

They announced they would be raising sails then never did. Did not announce they would not be using sails, we asked and found out. Crew member said "too rough" yet smaller sailboats were out using their sails. Then we were told they would normally use motors still even when using sails. Sails were more for decoration?

Beautiful sail boat. Enjoyed the boat ride while listening to a talented musician. Lots of room to see the sights. Crew very respectful and I felt confident in their ability.

Entertaining, great service, friendly staff. Beautiful way to see the Halifax harbour. Entertainment by Tommy Green Jr was excellent and engaging.

Thank you for the wonderful review! We're delighted that you enjoyed the harbour views, great service, and friendly atmosphere. It's fantastic to hear that the entertainment added to your experience. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again on a future tour!

It’s still a great experience. Although it was quite packed, I enjoyed it overall. There were already a lot of people standing and sitting close together. I’ve done this twice, and on the second trip they raised the sails, which added to the fun. I hope that next time there’s enough room for everyone to enjoy the view while also being comfortable.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Thank you for sharing your feedback! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the experience overall and especially that raising the sails added to the fun. We appreciate your comments regarding the crowding onboard, and we'll continue working to provide a comfortable experience for all guests while ensuring everyone has a chance to enjoy the views. We hope to see you back again soon for another tour!

Such a great experience. We visited Halifax for the first time and this was such a special part of our trip. The staff were so very kind to our kids (3 and 8) and even gave them a tour of the boat! Highly recommend
Norman_B, May 2026
A nice cruise around the harbor and excellent music during the cruise but we were disappointed that the sales were never used and it would have been nice to have some commentary about the sights we were passing along the way.
Sabina_P, May 2026
Amazing experience! Time on the boat was about 2 hours and the views were amazing! The live music was great and the crew were so nice!
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to review our tour!
The Tall Ship Silva tour runs for two hours in the afternoon throughout the season and is one of our most loved tours!
Great to hear the music and crew added to the experience.
Hope to see you on another sail!
Rhonda_S, Oct 2025
The ship is delightful, the views are spectacular, but the live music made the experience! Jackson is a very talented musician. It was one of the best experiences we have ever had!
Robin_D, Oct 2025
Though the conditions were perfectly fine, this boat spent three quarters of the 2 hours motoring about.
When they finally raised the sails, it was only for show because the engines were never turned off and the boat really didn't go sailing.
To make matters a little worse, the live music which was selected to "entertain" the guests wasnt nautical and far too loud.
We were all glad not to hear it when we got off the boat.

If you don't do this cruise you will miss out on a great experience. High lite of our Halifax visit.
Shelly_H, Oct 2025
Not a lot of info about Halifax/harbour. It was a good experience. Staff were friendly. Maybe could have come around more often to ask about drinks etc
Erin_P, Oct 2025
We all enjoyed this very much. Would definitely go again and recommend to anyone visiting Halifax. But the fact I have to put a longer comment is annoying
Nancy_M, Oct 2025
Staff were very engaging and open to questions. Musician was receptive and interacted well with participants. Interesting information about the ship and surrounding area.

Beautiful afternoon tour of the Halifax harbor. Very relaxing and the music by Mr. Gary was really nice.

Decided to try out the Top Ship Silva Cruise as suggested by my cousins who I met up with on the cruise, and I have no regrets. It was fun times! I just made it to the boat on time as I had to find a parking spot first, so I appreciate the crew's patience in waiting up for me.
Anyways, the tour itself, it was really enjoyable, the water conditions were just right, it wasn't too rough. The ship launches off of the Halifax Waterfront and sets sail for a two hour course of fun! It heads past Georges Island and makes its way down to between McNabs & Ferguson Island that's SW of the harbour and then doubles back. You can get some really scenic shots of the shoreline and waterfront, as well as downtown Halifax, and some of the other boats and vessels coming and going along the route.
During the cruise, you are entertained by a live musician that takes requests of whatever song you like to hear (or whatever the musician can play) and they sell food & drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) onboard. They also man and raise the sails halfway through the cruise which also adds to the fun! It makes you feel like you're on the Bluenose!
Best part of the cruise for me, was meeting with my cousins who like me, have spent time out in Nova Scotia and that we were able to meet up and share our stories of our adventures!
Overall, the Top Ship Silva Cruise is the best bang for your buck for two hours of fun, and I would definitely come back for it again upon my next trip back to Halifax!

This was a lovely experience, beautiful day, not over crowded. And the staff was very helpful with my partner who has limted mobility.
Angela_S, Sep 2025
I would give 5 stars but for the price. You just float around see a few houses. You only get to see the sails for 5 mins at the end. It’s was nice and staff was wonderful.
maya_i, Sep 2025
The tall ships sailing cruise was wonderful. My mom and I had a fun time on the sailing cruise; the weather cooperated and it was nice to see Halifax from the water. My only issue was that there was no commentary on the cruise; it would have been nice to hear the history behind the tall ships and the area around Halifax we were sailing around in. It would have been nice to have an opportunity to ask questions as well. All around, it was a fun cruise to see amazing scenery in and around Halifax.

What a great day for a sail on a tall ship. Very nice accommodation along with wonderful musical entertainment. Highly recommend this experience 😎
Bernice_B, Sep 2025
The trip was wonderful. The musician Gary was fantastic. It was interactive with the guest on the ship which was a great idea.
John_W, Sep 2025
Amazing trip. Got there late and we were the only people who had to stand so we just landed against the main mast. After 15 minutes, at least half the people were standing to get the best view. By the end, most were standing because the views were incredible. I thought the music (solo acoustic) would take away from the experience but it was really good. He was quite talented and funny. Half way through they raised the sails and let passengers participate. 100% worth it for us.
Teresa_G, Sep 2025
Very relaxing, wonderful singer/guitar player. We had perfect weather which really added to the experience. And we were lucky enough to have sails up for the last 45 minutes.
