We took the Caminito del Rey day trip from Granada with Discovering Spain, and overall, it was a great experience. Communication with the tour agency was smooth, and we had no trouble locating the meeting point using Google Maps. Our group was small—just four people (2+2)—so we traveled comfortably in a sedan. Our driver, Manuel, was friendly and spoke English well. During the 1 hour and 45-minute ride, he provided an informative overview of Granada and the surrounding areas.
Upon arriving at the Caminito del Rey parking lot, we had a 20-minute walk to the actual entrance of the trail. Manuel took care of our tickets, made sure we were in the right line, and then departed. From that point, the official park guides took over. Each participant was given a helmet and a wireless receiver with a headset, ensuring we could hear the guide clearly throughout the hike.
The walk itself was relatively easy, following wooden and rock pathways along the mountainside. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking—no photo or video can truly capture it. The only real challenge was the heat. It’s essential to bring plenty of water, dress lightly, and wear comfortable sneakers.
One unexpected aspect was that after the official guided portion of the trail (which lasted around 2 to 2.5 hours), we were left at a point that required an additional 30-minute walk to reach the exit. Just beyond that point, there's a vending machine with cold water—don’t skip it! An ambulance is stationed near the exit for those affected by the heat, underscoring the importance of staying hydrated and protected.
Despite the heat and fatigue, the stunning views made it all worthwhile. Manuel met us at the exit and gave us time to rest at a shaded café area before driving us back to Granada. The entire trip took about 7.5 hours, with approximately 3 hours spent commuting and the rest at the park.
I highly recommend visiting Caminito del Rey, and Discovering Spain made the journey smooth and convenient.

Hello!
What a fantastic and detailed review! We're so happy to hear that your Caminito del Rey excursion from Granada was a great experience and that you consider it "Well Worth It."
We're pleased to read that communication with our agency was smooth and that you had no trouble finding the meeting point. It's great that your small group size (only four people) allowed for such a comfortable trip.
We're proud to know that Manuel was friendly, spoke excellent English, and that the 1 hour and 45-minute drive was so informative, providing you with an overview of Granada and its surroundings. He also took care of your tickets and had you ready at the entrance to the Caminito del Rey.
We're glad that you found the Caminito del Rey hike relatively easy and that you found the scenery absolutely stunning. Knowing that the headphones and wireless receivers ensured you could hear the guide clearly is important to us. We appreciate your advice about water, light clothing, and comfortable shoes; they are very helpful for future visitors, especially in the heat.
We understand that the additional 30-minute walk to the exit and then the other 30-minute walk to the shuttle was unexpected and could have added to the fatigue, especially in the heat. That's why Manuel waited for you at the exit and gave you time to rest in a shaded area before returning to Granada. Your feedback about these distances is very valuable and helps us emphasize this information even more.
In the end, knowing that, despite the heat and fatigue, the spectacular views made it all worthwhile and that you highly recommend visiting the Caminito del Rey with Discovering Spain, making the trip smooth and convenient, is the best reward for our entire team.
We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Andalusia in the future!
Best regards,
The Discovering Spain Team

Excellent views and a marvellous of engineering. If a hot day ensure you have plenty of water and snacks. There are some steep steps up and down. So if you have any injuries or difficulties you may need to reconsider. This also goes for if you have a fear of heights. Overall an excellent day trip. We had and excellent driver which made the 2hr trip each way more enjoyable. He had an excellent knowledge of Spain and Granada.

It was beautiful and you need to wear proper clothes. I also no toilets or eating dirnthr 2.5 hours on the trail. The transfer was great. I our driver was fantastic and gave us good information. Everything ran on time. The trail is amazing and is very high and the history was fantastic. Try to do it on a sunny day. I the colors are beautiful

We appreciate your advice for other travelers about appropriate clothing and the importance of being aware of the lack of toilets and places to eat during the 2.5 hour tour. The tour consisted of a bus trip from Granada to Carminito del Rey where the real guided tour started. We were assigned guides and we had a great guide who took the time and paced the walk perfectly. She was enthusiastic and spent her time talking about how the dam project evolved and also talked about the flora and fauna. We were passed by numerous groups so our walk was easy and leisurely.
Although apprehensive about heights, once started it was not a problem
A wonderful experience not to be missed .

We had a great experience! Jose, our driver, was great- friendly, professional, and he drove safely. Once at Caminito del Rey, our guide, Javi, was friendly, professional, and educational….we walked a total of about 6-7km over the 2-2.5 hour tour. My husband and I are in our early 70’s, and we kept up with the pace of the tour. It was a group of about 16 people, and the tour was well organized. I was impressed with their safety protocols. The region was gorgeous! Highly recommend!

Very cool hike. An amazingly unique experience. The hike is beautiful and breathtaking. Would love to have extra time in this area in the future. Definitely recommend. Such a nice change of pace of the city and historical tours. Tour guide was excellent. Gave great information so we understood about the history but also was quiet and allowed us to enjoy the beauty.

Nice little group, lovely guide. Very lovely day! Guides were very relaxed and accommodating. On the wayy back we visited Antequerra which was a lovely bonus. Guide offered to drop people of at their hotel in Granada because it was raining, which was very kind.
Don_S, Jun 2024
Our tour guide was very informative and led us safely on the hike. It was very windy on the day that we went and the last part of walkway was closed and we walked the canal to the bridge crossing.
Donna_W, May 2024
Absolutely wonderful and a bit difficult at times for us 70+ year old seniors. So beautiful and interesting. Our guide was a lovely young lady who gave us tons of info and insight of the history of the caminita del Rey.
Mariah_N, Dec 2023
Our driver made everything easy. Gave some interesting information about Granada on our way out of the city. Passed us off to our guide for the hike and clearly explained, and was waiting for us, at the meeting point at the end of the hike. Gave adequate time before and after the hike for snacks/bathroom breaks. Made for a smooth and worry free day.

Caminito Del Rey is a nice walk. We has transport from Granada and back. Easy paths, some bolted into the side of the mountain. I am moderately height aware and did well. Our guide was informative and funny. Bring water and snacks.

I'm afraid of heights, but couldn't miss this opportunity. It's one of the best tours of our trip to Spain. We had a great driver and care-taker and the Caminito tour guide was informative and helpful. Overall - great!

Our tour to Caminito del Rey was a great experience! The driver who took us gave insights to the areas we drove through and made an extra stretch stop on the way back to Granada! The driver guided us to the entrance and met us after the tour where we could grab a snack before heading back to Granada. The tour itself was good- it was more structured than I realized before booking but overall very interesting to see the walkways and experience the area.
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Dear Joanna
