Overview
El Yunque Rainforest is Puerto Rico’s largest nature reserve and as difficult to explore independently as any other tropical rainforest. Drive yourself to meet your guide in Fajardo and then follow your guide's vehicle into the rainforest. Discover it with a guide on this fun forest hike to two different waterfalls, one with a rope swing and free diving, the second with a natural rock waterslide and a cliff jump. Learn about the rainforest’s history, wildlife and trees as you hike.

Meet us at Yagrumo Restobar in Fajardo. Important: You must drive your rented/owned vehicle from the meeting point to the Rainforest. Uber and taxis are not allowed. Transportation is not provided at any point. Use GOOGLE MAPS in order to reach the correct location.

Drive yourself to meet your guide and fellow travelers at a central meeting point in Fajardo and caravan out together to the eastern side of El Yunque Rainforest. Once you arrive, you'll hike for roughly 20 to 30 minutes to a swimming hole, learning about the rainforest’s history along the way.
You are required to supply your own transportation for this tour.
Once you reach the swimming hole, spend some time swimming, jumping into the water, or trying out a rope swing. Later, continue to another swimming hole, located an additional 15-minute hike into the rainforest. Here you can zip down a natural rock slide or jump off a cliff and into a refreshing river before returning to San Juan.
You are required to supply your own transportation for this tour.

- It’s a requirement to have an owned/rented vehicle in order to participate as this tour doesn’t provide transportation at any point. Uber/taxis aren’t allowed as the meeting point is not the final destination.
- Safety is our priority, in order for you to enjoy the experience to its fullest we may have to slightly forward or delay your start time after reservations are made, to avoid heavy flow of people and betterment of the experience. The notification will be sent by email the evening prior the tour.
- Good physical condition required • Participants must be able to hike more than 35 minutes
- Participants with; Walking limitations, Overweight Issues, Permanent Injuries, Recent surgeries or not physically fit are NOT recommended as a good physical condition is required to complete this experience.
- ** If you're traveling with a group but reserved your space separately, you have to notify us that you're together. The chances of being assigned to different tour guides are high, and changes can't be made on the day of the tour ** IMPORTANT: Don’t use the “Special Requirements “ field, contact the provider or notify Viator Customer Support directly.
- Pictures AREN’T part of this experience, if you’d like to bring your phone with you keep in mind you should have a waterproof pouch in order to protect it as it can get damaged during the excursion. Some guides will take pictures which they will share after the tour is done. It’s not their obligation to send this pictures to you after you’ve parted ways.
- OFFICE HOURS: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Fridays 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. Thursday, Saturday, Sunday 7:00 am - 5:00 pm.
- We recommend shoes that you won't mind getting wet and muddy, that have a good grip and a thick sole. Sneakers, water shoes or hiking sandals that cover your toes are the best option. Be mindful that sandals, flip flops, crocs or slides are not allowed as it can be dangerous once wet or muddy.
- Not recommended for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions • Minimum age is 5 years • Max age to participate is 59 years
- Pregnant guests CAN'T participate. To keep the baby/babies and mothers safe we don't allow expecting mommas on this tour as the terrain is uneven and slippery (muddy), therefore making it dangerous for you and your little one(s).
- Running late / Cancelling under 24 hrs prior the tour: Contact your assigned tour guide directly to inform them your ETA, they can give a 5 min grace period if they’re informed. If you arrive late you will be considered a NO SHOW meaning no refund or reschedule will be provided. Cancellations under 24 hrs prior the tour won’t be honored and NO refund will be provided.
- Customers must know how to swim to participate on the tour
- Guests with recent surgeries

- Trail is on uneven and muddy terrain. Guest will walk on LOTS of mud.

We had an amazing experience with our tour guide, Viktor, in the rainforest of Puerto Rico! From start to finish, everything was well organized, safe, and so much fun. Viktor took us to several incredible water spots—natural pools, waterfalls, and hidden areas we never would have found on our own.
What really stood out was how knowledgeable, patient, and friendly he was. He shared interesting facts about the rainforest, made sure everyone felt comfortable, and kept the energy positive the entire time. You can tell he truly cares about giving people a great experience.
The water activities were the highlight—beautiful, refreshing, and the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. From sliding down rocks to swimming in crystal-clear pools, every moment felt special.
What meant the most to me personally was Viktor going out of his way to return a camera I accidentally left in the pocket of a life vest. That level of honesty and kindness really says a lot about his character and made the experience even more memorable.
I highly recommend booking with Viktor if you’re visiting Puerto Rico. This was easily one of the best parts of our trip, and we would absolutely do it again!

This was the best experience I’ve had in my life. It was well organized, such a fun time, everybody in our groups were great and very outgoing. The tour guides, Pancho & Steven, were absolutely PHENOMENAL, the best I’ve had in a really long time. They truly made the experience the best it could be, I had such a great day! I WILL be back and pray I have the same guides. They deserve all the raises and opportunities in the world!!

We had a great time! Family of 4- two aging parents and two college age kids. The hike really wasn't strenuous or long. Most of your time is at the swimming hole with the natural water slide (very smooth), cliff jumping and rope swing. The area is beautiful and the water wonderful! Our guides Stephen and Poppi were very nice and funny. One area getting up a big wet rock to the water slide was a little tricky, but they help you up effortlessly! This was a really fun activity! Highly recommend!

Our tour guide Anthony was great and the experience was so much fun! El Yunque was beautiful and the water activities were so refreshing. I did the 8:30am slot and would definitely recommend doing this one as the crowd was getting a lot bigger after 11:30am. It truly was the highlight of my trip to my beautiful Puerto Rico!🇵🇷

Transportation is available for specific tour options, so having a rental car is not required for every tour. This was a great experience. El Yunque is amazing. The hiking and climbing can be challenging but very rewarding. Take good water shoes and travel light (water bottle at most). The tour guides are great and take good care of you along the route. They take videos and pictures of you with their phone. When out there, do everything if you’re physically able (the slide, the cliff jump, the rope swing); it’s all an amazing experience!

Absolutely the best tour! Our guides- Luis & John - created the best experience for our family- kids are 11, 13, 18 & 19. The hiking, the rope swings, the waterfall slides- etched in my memory. They take all the photos for you & air drop when the tour is done.

I highly recommend this excursion to anyone traveling to Puerto Rico! It is probably my favorite thing we did. Our guides were great and got us all there safely! The hike itself is not bad at all. Be prepared to climb but if you’re careful and listen to your guide you will be just fine. Wear tennis shoes or water shoes. It’s a beautiful experience! We would absolutely book this experience again.

Tour communication was good about the meeting point and time of arrival. It is a fun hike but it can be challenging for some people. I believe the tour operator recommends comfortable closed toe shoes and athletic clothes, which is a great recommendation. The tour guides do a good job explaining whats going to happen and the best way to get to the waterfall.

Make sure to bring water shoes or sneakers that you don't mind getting wet and muddy. The hike is about 10 to 15 minutes over rocky and muddy road.

We had a great time on this excursion. For women, I would suggest wearing quick drying athletic clothes instead of a swimsuit. The rocks can be slippery at points and require either really good grippy shoes or to sit and slide. The slide is an optional part of the tour, but if you choose to go, there’s no backing out! The only way down is to get wet. It was definitely worth the trek up! Nia was a great guide and very encouraging for the kids.

It took me a little while to finally get around to writing a review so I apologize, but Orlando and Jhon were amazing! This was our favorite activity we did while in PR. Growing up my family came to PR in the summers pretty regularly because my father is from here. We always did a day trip to el yunque but this was my first time ever seeing this part of the rainforest. It was so much fun but most importantly Orlando and Jhon made me feel safe the entire time. I would never try something like this without a guide and I’m generally a worrier but they did a great job making me feel safe to participate in all the slides and the cliff jump. This was a highlight of our trip and I’m sure we’ll be back again next visit to PR!

An absolutely amazing experience! I didn’t find the hike difficult but climbing the rocks to the waterslide was a little challenging. I was motivated to continue and my tour guide Orlando was truly fantastic, patient and encouraging. He did not hesitate to step in and help when needed, Thank you Orlando! I also enjoyed learning more about the history and plant life of El Yunque. 10/10 Experience, I definitely would do it again.
