  • Guest under 18 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The owner of the service animal must provide a Licensed Life-vest by the Coast Guard for the animal. The animal must be in total control all the time. Keep in mind that there will be many people around in the dark.
  • Guest that are not able to complete the tour for any reason will not be provided a refund of any type.

This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
  • Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way.
  • Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal to very bright suddenly.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island, including coming from Vieques or Culebra. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
  • TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
  • This tour takes place in the water. Expect to get completely wet. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. We recommend to bring a change of clothes and towel for after the trip.
  • Tour is not canceled in rainy days. We will get wet anyways ;)
  • There are public bathrooms on-site, but they are not always in good condition. You may consider stopping in fast food before getting to the meeting site or using the bathrooms from the nearby stores/restaurants which are sometimes available.
  • Certain time of the year great amounts of sargassum (seaweed) arrive to our coasts. This can make paddling to feel like a workout. Also the natural decomposition odor might be unpleasant.

Amaury, Yadiel, and Catalina were excellent! The tour guides made sure everyone was safe, reviewed all the rules prior to departing, and ensured we received an amazing experience! They were extremely attentive and informative! It was a beautiful experience, even though we had low luminescence that night, we still had a fun time! Cannot recommend this experience enough.

Overall it was nice to...

Jennifer_R, Aug 2026
Overall it was nice to kayak in the bay and mangroves at night. It was however, very crowded overall with too many kayakers. They were upfront about the lower chances of bioluminesce due to the moon phase so I was not disappointed. If it was possible to have smaller groups and maybe some recommendations about noise/drunking singing so everyone could enjoy the excursion more peacefully, I would have given a higher review.

Fun but not much to see in regards to the bioluminescent.

Melisa_R, Aug 2026
It was fun but the actual bioluminescent experience was a bit of a let down. Still glad we did it because the night kayaking experience was so fun. You go through the mangroves… very beautiful scenery. Not recommended for young children especially if they’re afraid of the dark.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Hello Melisa_R, thank you for your feedback. We’re so glad you enjoyed the kayaking experience. We’d just like to clarify that whenever the bioluminescence is lower than expected, we always notify our guests beforehand so they can decide whether they’d still like to participate. We also recommend the earliest tour for families with young children, as it allows them to see the area while it’s still light, although the later tour is also suitable and the choice is always up to the parents.Thank you again for sharing your experience! Cordially, Natalia

Amanda_J, Jul 2026
It was a unique experience! The guides were amazing and very informative. Unfortunately, we went when there was a full moon, so it was difficult to see the bioluminescents. However, kayaking at night in the mangroves was a fun experience. You will get wet! Be prepared! You have to wade in the water to and from the kayak. The water was knee-deep to hip-deep. Dress accordingly!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Hello Amanda_J, thank you for your feedback. We are glad this was a unique experience for you. This is great advice for future customers. We also Thank you for such an honest review. Cordially, Natalia

Emily_J, Jul 2026
My family had so much fun out on the kayaks. It's worth the experience whether or not weather allows the bay to glow or not. The mangroves are beautiful to go through, and learning about the bio bay was interesting! I had adult children down to a 12 year old. I saw kids around four or five years old as well. Our entire group had a lot of fun! Would definitely do this again!

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Hello Emily_J, thank you so much for your kind review! We’re so happy your family had a wonderful time and enjoyed exploring the mangroves and learning about the bio bay. We did want to clarify one small detail for future guests: for safety reasons, children 5 years old and under are not permitted on our kayak tour. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another adventure in Puerto Rico! Cordially, Natalia

Underwhelming Bioluminescence

Mary_M, Jul 2026
Fun to kayak through the mangroves but did not see any bioluminescence. Underwhelming experience on the lagoon. Should’ve made the trip to Mosquito Bay instead, perhaps. If you want a nice kayak adventure, though, it’s fine.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Hello Mary_M, thank you for your feedback. In the description and details of the tour it explains everything that might be seen. We inform our customers of the conditions of the bioluminescence. This is a natural phenomenon it goes up and down during the year. All of this is also informed in the tour details, it is important to read these to know what to expect before going on the tour. Thank you. Cordially, Natalia

Worst experience ever.

Anais_S, Jul 2026
This experience is not like it's mentioned and being original from the island i felt robbed. They had 15 kayaking most with no experience through a Mangles maze. They had enough tour guides but not enough lights to light up the path. At some point my partner and I with ok experience in kayaking we were in the front line in the peach black. If I hadn't taken my phone God knows. We got hit by Mangles Trees on our faces and body. They didn't say you can loose an eye. Wich will be a law suit if it happened. Secondly if my math is right this people profit 1995 per trip just to put a tarp over our heads and see nothing. I'm from the island and believe me is not that hard to see Bioluminescent water. And if the salgado is keeping it down why still profit thousands of dollars, and covering yourself with the, is not guaranteed due to Mother nature bull$&* I do not recommend. The only good thing was star gazing and getting 100 facts from Eli which was not worth the money at all.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Hello Anais_S, Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry the tour did not meet your expectations. Prior to departure, every guest is fully informed about the current bioluminescence conditions and is given the option to participate or cancel. As this tour takes place within a protected nature reserve, we do not use lights in the mangrove channels, as doing so would disturb the wildlife and diminish the natural experience. This is a nighttime kayaking tour conducted in natural darkness, and while many guests enjoy this unique environment, we understand it may not be the right fit for everyone. We appreciate your comments and are pleased to hear you enjoyed the stargazing and Eli’s informative presentation. Cordially, Yolanda Ramos PURE ADVENTURE

Just kayaking in the dark-no bioluminescence

Todd_K, Jul 2026
The staff and guides we great however the experience in itself was a complete disappointment. There was absolutely no bioluminescence to be seen…even with putting a tarp over us. The smell and the mosquitoes were pretty bad. I also feel the tour was over crowded.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Hello Todd_k, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. We want to clarify that all guests are contacted prior their tour and informed of the current bioluminescence conditions. At that time, everyone—including your group—was given the option to either continue with the tour at a discounted rate or cancel. Your group chose to participate with the discounted option. We also include reminders before every tour advising guests that mosquitoes are common. Additionally, because this is a natural mangrove ecosystem, we inform guests that there may be a natural not-pleasant smell depending on environmental conditions. Our goal is always to provide transparent information so guests can make an informed decision before their tour. While natural conditions such as bioluminescence intensity, insects, and odors are beyond our control, we appreciate your feedback and will continue doing our best to ensure every guest has a positive experience. Cordially, Yolanda Ramos PURE ADVENTURE

Hands down one of the BEST experiences of our entire trip to Puerto Rico! The crew made this tour absolutely unforgettable. They were welcoming, knowledgeable, organized, and genuinely passionate about what they do. If the owner is reading this…your crew is incredible. Special shout out to the check in girl, I didnt get her name (she was short with black hair and the sweetest smile). They represent your company so well and deserve all the recognition. Your tour guide was working sick, which shows dedication to his job!!! Their energy, professionalism, and enthusiasm turned a great tour into an unforgettable experience. Thank you for giving us memories we’ll never forget. This tour is an absolute must!

bad weather

Leonardo_S, Jul 2026
I arrived 30 minutes early to see if our canoe trip could be rescheduled because the wind was around 16 mph and the water was very choppy. There were nine people in our group, and I wasn’t willing to put anyone’s safety at risk by going out in those conditions. When we arrived, the employee was standing off to the side talking on her cell phone on what appeared to be a personal call. She clearly saw us waiting but continued her conversation instead of helping us. We had to wait until our scheduled start time before she finally spoke with us. Unfortunately, she was unable to accommodate a reschedule, so we decided not to take the trip. While I understand the company’s no-refund policy, I believe safety should come first. When weather conditions make a canoe trip potentially dangerous, there should be more flexibility to reschedule rather than expecting customers to choose between losing their money or risking their safety. I’m giving one star only because zero stars isn’t an option. Better customer service and more concern for customer safety would have made a big difference.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

hello Loenardo_S, Thank you for your feedback. We would like to address a few points mentioned . Safety is always our number 1 priority, with this in mind the conditions for the day mentioned were favorable for the excursion. This is because you do not go to open ocean where the waves are relatively bigger, we go through a mangrove Channel which no wind or waves affect it. Only low or high tide. We have a scheduled check in time. Our hostess has other things to attend prior to check in time for our second group. Our tour guides try to give everyone their full attention when providing a service. Keep in mind she receives calls from incoming clients on their way to the tour also. We are a company with 20 + years of experience as mentioned safety is our priority, in this specific area wind and rains is normal weather. Especially when in a tropical Island. Thank you for your feed back. Cordially Natalia Robles

Fun Activity

Stephanie_Z, Jul 2026
The crew was knowledgeable, up front about the weather/light viewing to be minimal and helpful. We still decided to book the trip. After walking through the seaweed to get to the kayaks - the ride out and back was an adventure. They provided bug spray and snacks with water upon our return & held car keys for safe keeping. Long pants were helpful but regardless I did get wet from the waist down. Water shoes and a water protector case to carry your phones is a must. Bring a change of clothes and towel for when you get out.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

hello Stephanie_Z, thank you for your feedback. We try to be as transparent as we can when it comes to visibility or the glow. Thank you for such a detailed review. Natalia Robles Pure Adventure PR

That you have to wade in the water that has some seaweed in it to get to the kayaks…after that the experience was great

Hello Curtis_W, Thank you for your review! We're happy you had a great experience. Jill_D, Jun 2026
The hosts were great and made sure we had a good time regardless. The paddle back is much harder (against the current in the dark) than the paddle out, so be aware. They told us to arrive 40 minutes early, which was unnecessary and anxiety inducing for the person in our group that was unsure/afraid. 15 minutes early was more than enough time.

Amazing Biokayak

Cynthia_S, May 2026
This was total chaos! Thankfully we are experienced paddlers. Please don’t do this if you have never been in a kayak. It is complete darkness and you have to be able to keep up.

Hello Cynthia_S, Thank you for your feedback. We understand that kayaking at night is in itself a challenging experience. Nevertheless, it can be enjoyed by any level kayaker. Now, the key is the willingness to live an adventure. Our guides are always available to help anyone in the group. Thank you again for your feedback. Cordially, Yolanda Ramos PURE ADVENTURE

This was a very cool...

Meredith_K, May 2026
This was a very cool experience. My friend and I did the sunset 6:15 time. It would have been helpful to know in advance that the mosquitoes are THICK. I decided to wear my clothes into the water to cover more skin, plus we doused ourselves with (non DEET) bug repellent. We did a good job and didn’t get eaten alive, but other people in the group wore swim suits or athletic shorts and complained about the bugs. You have to walk through the water to get into the kayak, so water shoes would be a good idea. There is nowhere to rinse off after, so bring a towel and a change of clothes. Also if you’d like to take photos, bring a waterproof phone case. Fajardo is about an hour away from San Juan, and we ended up renting a car. Turned out half the price of the car services we looked at. If you do want to set up a service from San Juan, it’ll be around $250 and the sunset time is 5:45-8:15/30. There is a nice parking lot, so that’s easy. It was really fun to kayak through the mangrove trees, even after dark. :)

Absolute Adventure, BUT….

Ethan_M, May 2026
If you are looking for something like the movie “Avatar”, you will be disappointed. The kayak adventure as a whole was super fun and an adventure, and we did see some bioluminescence, but it was like sparkles in the water at a maximum. The best part was definitely the kayak through the mangrove forest. I recommend the adventure, but keep your expectations realistic and away from the pictures online.

Mediocre

SUSAN_B, Apr 2026
The bioluminescence part is over rated and overhyped. If you go, it is still fun to kayak at night through the mangroves. You can't schedule your entire trip around the best night to go during the month, nor can you predict the weather 24 hours ahead. You can't cancel day of once you realize it will not be a "good bio night due to weather"
