What a great experience. It was a fantastic excursion for the whole family, would def recommend while it is a new moon, you’ll see more.
Sterling_P, Dec 2024
It is a cool experience - unfortunately we went with it being almost full moon so they had us cover with tarp but the tarp was too thin and didn't make it dark enough so we only saw a couple sparks. Thicker tarps would make it better as they can't control the moon.

Get confirmation first what at your visit day plankton visible. December 11 2024 tour at 7.30pm
Don’t see any plankton

This was a very good tour company and cool experience. We were lucky one of the tour guides hooked their boat to ours and helped tow us during the kayaking because it was a little difficult. We went one week before the full moon and had to use a tarp to see the bioluminescence. You could definitely see some but it’s not like the pictures. But the experience itself still makes it worth it. The main guide Emily was funny and knowledgeable. The experience was very smooth and safe.

Think twice about a bioluminescence tour with any company. We had 27ppl in our group and passed at least 4 other groups plus there were boats going by in the shallow narrow waterway. A bit crowded. BUT Kayaking at night through the mangroves upstream was fun and when we endured the mangroves and congregated in the open area, the stars above were amazingly bright; devoid of light pollution. Going back downstream was relaxing. Warning: the bioluminescence part was NOT like we expected; the marketing photos are NOT realistic. We had to put a tarp over ourselves to mimic complete darkness and then agitated the water to see a few sparkles. But the guides were knowledgeable and there were enough guides to help the beginner paddlers. I felt safe and still tipped them the customary amount.

We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the nighttime kayaking experience through the mangroves, the stunning starlit skies, and felt safe with the support of our knowledgeable guides.
We understand your concerns about the bioluminescence experience and potential overcrowding. During peak season, the waterway can become busy, as it is a popular attraction enjoyed by many visitors. We strive to create the best possible experience by maintaining manageable group sizes and providing clear instructions for safety and enjoyment.
Regarding your observations on the bioluminescence, we would like to clarify that all our advertising photos are taken during the daytime to accurately showcase the natural surroundings. We cannot control or be responsible for images presented by other companies, but we remain committed to representing nature as it truly is.
Lastly, we appreciate your mention of the tarp. While it is not part of our standard offering, we’re delighted you found it to be a creative and helpful solution for enhancing the bioluminescence visibility.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback and for acknowledging the effort of our guides with your tip. We are continually working to improve the experience and hope you’ll consider visiting us again in the future.

Really enjoyed the experience with my family. Seeing their reactions and watching them work together was worth every penny. As for the bioluminescent bay, honestly was just night kayaking. While it was fun we had something to do, but the lighting up was lacking for what we had hoped for. Tour guides were great.

You can't capture the bioluminescence on your phone, so fugeddaboutit. Crew and management very nice and easy to work with.

Booked this trip with two other friends. We were surprised to learn that you needed to be in groups of 2 or you’d need to share a kayak with another tourist. This is not an ideal activity to be forced with a stranger. The information and advertising around this fact should have been more explicit. I was finally able to convince the tour operator to give me my own boat, thank you. It was very touristy and busy with other tours as well, pretty crowded. The tour guides were kind and knowledgeable but the experience was a bit like Disneyland.

It was amazing. We had never kayaked before and was kind of nervous about it ( it’s in complete darkness) and you have to kayak for a while. I think the hardest part was when other groups were coming against our group. Joel was great we food the Spanish tour. We got to see the bioluminicent very good so no disappointment. Overall it was very fun and great experience ! Must do!

It was an amazing experience with my girlfriend and her mother. The guides were great and helped people who were not good at kayaking. I would recommend to book this tour when there is little to no moonlight if possible, as its much more intense experience in the dark.... Very well organized, friendly informative and the guides are very helpful and always present to help in any way needed.

Guides were great and it was a very nice experience. It would have been wonderful if we went on some no moon time. We kind of went at next day of full moon. But the guides gave us a mat to cover and watch the experience. It was great, there were 5 of them following everyone all the time. Even they helped my kayak pull as I have my daughter and I was kind of tired for sometime. My daughter enjoyed a lot. This was very smooth acitivty as they have clear instructions.

The experience was awesome! The guides were great and the bioluminesence was amazing! Highly recommend this!

The experience kayaking was amazing. The sad part is the fact that I set transportation to and from my hotel in Aan Juan. I messaged tour 2 days before for confirmation with no answers. 4 hours before they reached and said they won’t pick me up now. It cost me $250 to take a taxi there and back. They basically said not their problem. I could cancel but still not giving my money back. I wanted the experience. But they certainly soured it. It would be great if they had the integrity to make it right. But I think that may just be wishful thinking.

Wonderful time! Emily & Jaime were great tour guides. It was easy to find & everything ran smoothly.

A fun adventure with night kayaking through the mangroves to the bay. We were able to start seeing bioluminescence even before we got to the bay! Beautiful experience and a big thank you to our guides, especially Emily and AJ who gave us info about the bay and the animals around it. They were all great- thanks!

This was a great experience and so cool to do it with my family. The bioluminescent water was great and guides were great. One of my best memories on our trip to PR.
Julie_M, Nov 2024
We went for the bioluminescence and it delivered. I do think it’s a trade off between seeing that better versus the 2 way traffic in the dark with mangrove outcroppings for an extra level of difficulty. You will get soaked even though the onloading/offloading was easy.

This was the most memorable highlights of our trip to PR! Seeing the micro-organisms glow at night was spectacular!
We forgot our bug spray, and were thrilled that the gift shop sold it. A must have for this trip.

This is a must do if you are in the area. We have done the Parquera as well, but this one with kayaking thru the mangroves, and spending time on the bay is transcendent. My wife and I (fifties) and our teenage son (16) found it doable and each of us was overwhelmed by the experience. The staff; especially Michie and Joe made sure to enhance the experience with their passion, experience and professionalism. Yes, they do the tour in English, but also in Spanish so nothing is lost. They do 2 tours, we did the 6pm tour and got to see the sunset on the lake and the mangroves prior to darkness. And they make sure you see the bio luminescent organisms!!! a guarantee not avail in La Parquera

Great tour guides and the bio bay was awesome. Try to schedule around a new moon so it’s darkest in the sky.
Lauren_M, Mar 2024
We had so much fun on this tour! The lagoon sparkled and the night was beautiful. Also, Joe is THE BEST!!

We recently completed a night-time kayak trip w/Peniel and it was a mess. With this company, you go into a kayak and pretty much paddle completely in the dark in a single-file line through a narrow mangrove lane. B/C there are no lights on the kayaks, you have to follow the kayak in front of you which has a small, barely visible glow ring on it (some of the kayaks were missing them as well!) and the teenager tour guides have nothing organized and just yell at the participants to "stay to the right" where there is a traffic jam of companies taking people out to the bay and in at the same time. So, you can't see if you are going to literally run into another kayaker, or the mangrove trees. Once in the bay, a very UN-funny and awkward tour guide roped us all together, and then started harassing us because we didn't know her name (she had not even told us!) and then proceeded to provide UN-helpful information about the bay. It was super awkward. This person kept asking if there were questions but it was all silence as we weren't on the tour to ask questions... we were there to see the bio-organisms light up. While the trip itself was somewhat interesting (to see the bioluminescent organisms), Peniel was disorganized and on the way back into the dock area, there was ZERO communications between this company and the other 10 kayak companies in this compound and kayakers coming in/out were just running into each other in the corridor from the dock to the bay. It was very dangerous and disorganized, and my kids anxiety levels went through the roof as kayaking in the dark in a busy/small lane wasn't fun and people could have been easily hurt. I strongly recommend to anyone considering the Fajardo bioluminescent kayaking to avoid Peniel and make sure to pick a different company that distributes life jackets that have small orange lights on them as it will make a big difference in your experience

BEST group for this adventure. It was an especially dark night because of the cloud coverage and waxing crescent moon and our guides were absolutely terrific - well organized, experienced and knowledgeable (unlike the other disorganized, unsafe, dangerous and chaotic groups). Kayaking through the mangroves in the pitch black and arriving at the bay felt like we were in Pirates of the Caribbean. The bioluminescence was beautiful and the kayak adventure was really fun and unique. The guides went above and beyond for my aging parents - Joe towed my parents the entire time! He was so kind, energetic and lovely about it all. Also, my husband has difficulties with his legs and they were fantastic and helped him get in and out of the kayak with no problems. My teenage daughters had a blast with Emily and the other male guide (so sorry I forgot his name) who was funny and fun and showed us a jelly fish from the bay. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this adventure with THIS group!

The general bioluminescence was cool but not amazing enough for all the negative aspects of this. We had a group of 15 double kayaks. It was apparent that many did not have kayaking experience. We needed to paddle in the dark in a channel in a row, while others were passing on the other side. There were kayaks sideways, backwards. Paddles were hitting you. Kayaks were hitting you. The tour guides did not seem to be capable of handling any of this at all. If anything, the tour guides caused more chaos. When we got to the bay, we sat tied together, all 15 double kayaks, for a good 20 to 30 minutes while someone tried to explain the bio luminescence. The tour group was too large for me to hear anything. There were many other tour groups out there as well so lots of background noise. We had to stop a number of times on the way back because there were small boats and other kayaking groups that were passing. It was chaotic again- sideways kayaks, backwards kayaks, paddles and kayaks hitting. Kayak chaos. Save your money!

Kayaking in the mangroves in the dark and to see the bioluminescence was amazing. The tour guides were great keeping track of all the kayaker’s.
