Booking was relatively easy, but plan ahead if it’s a busy holiday week. The staff was very friendly and we felt safe at all times, but the paddle was a little bit more challenging than we thought so make sure you’re in decent shape before you book it. Our paddle took place during a full moon week, which was cool, but made the bioluminescence experience less spectacular than previous visits. I would still do it again!

Great experience! We went during the new moon so that it would be extra dark, and it was! The water sorta seems like it is sparkling, very cool. Even just the kayaking at night was fun. You don’t really need anything special for this, they will hold your bags and car keys.

You will get wet, it might rain, and if you have no experience kayaking, be honest with the tour guides so they can place tou in a good spot in the line going to the bay.

Super fun and cool experience! Kayaking was a bit challenging against the current, but overall not too difficult. Don't expect crazy glow, but it is definitely visible. Prepare to get wet from the waist down, definitely recommend having a change of clothes.

The kayaking is really fun! We got to see the micro organisms and we got to hold jellyfish! All the coaches were incredible and funny people!

Lovely to be out at night in the mangroves and ocean. Neat to see the bioluminescence. Leaders seemed well trained and safety conscious.

Was beautiful out at bay. Hard to believe was a living thing creating the illumination. Wife and I had a good time.

Our family of four (two adults, 13yo, 7yo) really enjoyed this experience. We have kayaked before but are not experienced by any means. The guides were super helpful and knowledgeable. It was a bit of a workout, but totally worth it! The 7 yo was nervous given how dark the excursion was navigating through the mangrove, but was enthralled once we started seeing the bioluminescence created as our paddles pushed through the water. Plan to get wet and to get a good workout in! The snack/food stand was nice to enjoy a quick beverage and bite to eat before we headed out. The description of this excursion was good and we felt well prepared for the adventure.

Had a great time! The tour guides were awesome! Kayaking in the dark was the best part! You could see the bioluminescence but not as bright as I thought.

Kayaking is definitely a team sport, so it's helpful to come with someone you're ready to work with! We had a wonderful time especially because we embraced the feeling of bumper-kayaking at night (expect to crash into other kayaks and trees!). Once we got to the bay, it was truly magical. I recommend looking at what phase the moon is in when planning this trip to make sure you have the best chance at seeing the bioluminescent bbs. The tour guide team was fun and patient with us, and even though the tarp moment felt a little clumsy - the ability to see the bioluminescence in total darkness was really magical. We had such a lovely adventure and I'd love to do it again!

The tour guides were very friendly and helpful. It was a great time and I’d recommend it! The bio bay was beautiful

We had an awesome time kayaking through the bioluminescent bay. Our guides were skilled, helpful, and entertaining. Emily was especially knowledgeable (and funny) and shared a lot of interesting information about why and how the bioluminescence occurs. Even though the moon was pretty bright, we had a fun time kayaking and we could still see the bioluminescence. The magic really happened when the guides brought out tarps to create true darkness so that we could appreciate the phenomenon. That was amazing! We were all fascinated by the individual lights like pieces of glitter. If you are in Fajardo, you should experience this.

Amazing experience! Under the tarp the bioluminescent organisms look like fairy dust or glowing glitter.
Guides were fantastic. Garef helped us when we got stuck and gave us a tow back. Highly recommend!

This was amazing! The kayaking to the bay was easy and the bioluninescent organisms were visible all the way to the bay. The glowing jellyfish were so fun, too. We didn't know we would have those there, which made it even more amazing. I don't know if they ate at the other bioluninescent bays, but there are tons of them in this one. They don't sting, so we could catch them and hold them. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. The darker the night, the better; best to go with no moon, bit go either way, they will provide tarps to see better. We went about 4 days after no moon and we were able to see them, but with the tarps they provided to put over us, it was super amazing. All the guides were great. Highly recommend this tour!!!

I loved this activity! All the captain were very knowledgeable and they were always alert. I am HORRIBLE at coordinating and they made the experience seemsly. I will definitely book with them again. I enjoyed it so much .

Fun experience kayaking under the moonlight. I found this to be peaceful and magical paddling through the mangroves. My husband and teenage daughter on the other hand were surprised with such a workout. It’s 90% kayaking through the mangroves and 10% seeing the micro organisms. I wish there was a heads up of what to wear… you step in the water up to your ankles, and you get soaked from the waste down from sitting in the kayak and having water drip all over. Wear flip flops and bring a change of clothes. No flashes are allowed, so no need to go through the trouble of water proofing your phone. Altogether a good time.

You will get wet participating in any activity involving a beach, river, pool, or anything else with water. Being mindful that this is a night kayaking tour through a mangrove forest, please dress accordingly.
We publish information in the tour description and SMS notifications in an effort to raise awareness of the activity. Please read the text we send you for your convenience in addition to the description.

This was our first Viator booking and our first tour in PR. It did not disappoint. We (group of about 30) were accompanied by 4 guides, and given a quick but useful tutorial for kayaking. As other reviewers commented, be prepared to kayak in the dark. It’s really a courtesy to all the other visitors and tour operators. All I can say is that it was entirely worth it, even with a couple collisions with mangrove branches on the way. Just understand that the bioluminescence depends on a variety of factors. (Do some research). We were happy with what we saw.
A wholly unique experience!!!

Kayaking through the mangroves was so magical, stars were incredible, tarpon were jumping and our guide had great energy! She even shined her head lamp so we could catch a glimpse of an iguana in the trees. Seeing the glowing Microorganisms under the tarp was the best!
William_E, Oct 2022
Such a fun excursion, our guide was incredible, the experience of kayaking through the mangroves to to biobay was fun and the bioluminescence was so cool and worth the money and effort to get there.
Janice_M, Sep 2022
It was a new moon when we went so it was pitch black rowing through the mangroves which was an experience on its own. We floated for a bit in Laguna Grande and then headed back. When we put the oars or hands in the water it glowed. Super cool. Rowing back through the mangroves against the current was hard but our guide Rafael helped us. Very unique experience
Yuyanc_C, Aug 2022
It was awesome. In addition,Sammi is a helpful and attentive guy who was leading us throughout the whole tour as we crashed to the tree. Thanks a lot. Highly recommend this tour.
Dariia_M, Aug 2022
Awesome experience! Must try activity in this area! We’ve really enjoyed kayaking at night, and bio glow!
NishanthNagesh_B, Dec 2021
Located perfectly at the entrance of the mangrove, saves you the effort of not having to kayak across strong currents. The tour was fun and informative, with the guides giving clear instructions to navigate through the mangroves.

Really cool experience, definitely recommend! Best time to visit is when their is a new moon! Loved our tour guide, spoke English real well too!
Nick_R, Dec 2021
Really nice, fun, and knowledgeable guides who took us through the channel into the protected bay where we got to see the flagellates. They had a lot of great info, stories, and passion for the area that showed. Big props to Carlos for being funny and making the journey enjoyable.
Carlos_H, Oct 2021
if was fun, a lot of work but thats kayaking. the only down side is the bioluminescence doesnt show that much anymore its very faint
Jeremy_T, Oct 2021
Had a fabulous time last night at Bio Bay Tour! Rafael and the crew were awesome. The kayak through Mangrove Forrest was a one of a kind experience. Although weather wasn’t cooperative to see the full extent of the plankton, the crew was prepared with a tarp to ensure we had a great experience! Would definitely love to bring the entire family back. Thanks so much guys!
