    Save your money

    Paul_J, Feb 2026
perhaps my expectations were too high. A picture shows a really cool bio illumination but we had no where near that experience. We were doomed from the start as our group included 2 dozen teens that were screaming and crashing the kayaks. Once in the lagoon, we did not see any illumination. So very disappointing. The guides did a good job but they rope all the kayaks together so it is beyond difficult to see the bio illumination. I don't recommend.

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hi Paul, Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback — we truly appreciate it. We’re sorry to hear that the experience didn’t meet your expectations. Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon, and while some nights can be incredibly bright, other nights are much more subtle depending on factors like recent rainfall, moonlight, water conditions, and microscopic organism levels. We always try to communicate that glow intensity can vary , but we understand how it can feel disappointing when it’s not as vibrant. Regarding the group dynamic, we do our best to manage all participants and keep the experience enjoyable and safe for everyone. When we temporarily rope kayaks together, it’s primarily for safety and group control in certain areas, especially when conditions or group size require it. That said, we understand how that can make viewing more challenging, and we appreciate you pointing that out. Feedback like yours helps us continue improving how we manage different group situations. We’re glad to hear our guides did a good job — we’ll be sure to pass that along to them. Thank you again for being candid. We truly value your perspective.

Awesome guides and educational fun experience

    Drew_H, Jul 2025
Guides put up with my group’s antics and made it fun and educational despite diminishing phytoplankton populations

    Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you so much, Drew, for your fantastic review! We’re so glad you and your group had fun with us out on the water. Our team always enjoys bringing some laughs and learning to the adventure—even when nature doesn’t glow as brightly. Your appreciation means a lot, and we hope to welcome you all back again !

    Good job

It was a different day type of an experience for me never kayaked before so it was challenging but loved it left my go prop behind unfortunately

    Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you so much for joining us and for your kind words! We’re so glad to hear you enjoyed the experience, especially as a first-time kayaker. You did great! We’re truly sorry to hear you lost your GoPro—unfortunately, it’s one of the reasons we always recommend not bringing valuables on the water, as things can easily get lost out there. We really wish we could have recovered it for you. Wishing you many more great adventures ahead!

    Pure misery

    Bridget_R, Jun 2025
I was with my two teenage daughters, so because we had an odd number, I had to become in a kayak. Particularly on the return trip, this was an absolutely miserable experience. We were paddling against the current and just by myself, it was just too much. I mean, I run marathons! And while I may not have the best upper body strength, it was utterly exhausting and defeating and embarrassing. I can’t understand why they would put a novice kayaker alone, in the dark, against a super strong current. Why not put the odd person with one of the guides. My daughters (who were together) said it was super hard for the both of them paddling together. Also, if the company knows it’s not a great time to see the bioluminescence, I think they should make that known before families drop a few hundred dollars. All we saw, rarely and fleetingly, and only the guide out a tarp over our heads to make it even darker, were a few barely noticeable sparks. To tell the truth, I cried. I was utterly exhausted and frustrated and my arms felt like noodles after. The journey is over a mile (each way), and I’m just baffled, especially given the conditions with the crazy strong current, they thought your average, slender-build woman was capable of this. I have literally never written a review like this. I would love to support their economy and workers by writing a gleaming review, but this was one of the most miserable experiences of my life.

    Response from Host, Jun 2025

Hello from Eco Adventures, we are sorry to hear that this trip was not enjoyable for you. This is a physically demanding tour especially if currents are a bit stronger. We clearly state on our webpage that a person must be able to do the kayaking themselves, but if it is an uneven number in your group we do not obligate or force any participant to go on their own. The night you went on your tour our guide offered to pair you up with someone also a couple approached you asking if you would like to go with one of them, but both these offers were declined by you. Unfortunately we cannot place clients with a guide because the guides are there to assist everyone, they cannot be on the kayak with someone else because that would limit them to being able to reach any and all guest when and if needed. The evening of your tour we did receive information from one of our guides saying that you had some struggles. He indicated that once you guys were leaving the Laguna he offered to clip you in to his kayak and though we do not condone our guides offering this type of assistance because it can be very strenuous on their back’s, he still offered. This help was declined by you as well. We understand that you have your reasons, but if we are offering all the tools to assist and they are not being accepted How can we help? As for the glow, This is a nighttime kayaking tour through a mangrove forest which is beautiful on its own, but we know that the Glow for some people is a big part of the tour but unfortunately it is not something we can control. The bioluminescence is part of mother nature and she works in her own way and due to this percentages cannot be determined and that’s clearly stated on our website prior to booking this tour.

    Wonderful adventure

    Anthony_T, May 2025
This felt like a once in a lifetime experience. We were spending only a few days in PR, and this was recommended by an AI-generated three-day itinerary, and it was right on. Fajardo is about an hour car ride from San Juan, and the Uber rides there and back cost more than the tickets for the kayak tour (if I had to do it again, I would have selected an option with transportation, but likely would have had to reserve this more in advance). Some advice to take seriously: expect to be about waste-deep in water when you load onto the kayak, so take their advance warning seriously, especially in regard to footwear. You will be kayaking (a bit less than per my Garmin watch) a mile to the bay, with overhead hazards (branches), in the dark and following lights on the boat/kayaks ahead of you. It's scary in a true adventure sort of way, but not too bad. The actual experience at the bay is very cool, and the guides were great: providing plenty of information and opportunity to get the most out of our time.

    Response from Host, May 2025

    First booking with this...

    Alicia_P, Feb 2025
First booking with this viator site is more expensive than the actual place. Second, the 6:00 pm tour is horrible. We were only on the water just about an hour when its advertised as a 2 hour tour. At no time was there a mention of putting black tarps over our kayaks in a bunch. At no time was it mentioned that we would not see anything unless we were completely in dark with no clouds.

    Response from Host, Feb 2025

Hello Alicia, thank you for joining our tour. We have our regular website Ecoadventurespr.com, Viator is just another option for guest. Much like Expedia, Priceline or any other one, all prices are different and It is up to the guest to choose where they would like to book. Our tour is advertised as an hour and a half to two hours, this includes time of check-in, set up, orientation, etc. We provide the tour like all the other companies with the same timeframe. Also we place a black tarp in order to help the visibility but you are not obligated to go under. It is the clients choice. The only time the glow comes out is in darkness, that is clearly stated on our website and in any information about dinoflagellates you may find. They do not glow in daylight, they only glow in darkness that is why this is a Night time tour.

It was not easy to kayak...

    Ginny_K, Dec 2024
It was not easy to kayak all the way to Laguna Grande (we have little experience in kayaking) but the view of the shiny bioluminescent organisms worth all the hard work.

    Chaotic and Disappointing

    swoltersbellsouthnet, Nov 2024
Overall, the trip was very chaotic and disappointing. Too many people in the group as well as too many tour companies running at the same time. No one was keeping things moving smoothly. You had kayaks bumping into each other, paddles from other boats in ours, people going into the mangroves and tour guides just sitting there not keeping people organized. Then you had returning boats full of people running right up the middle. Sadly, this made for an expensive and very disappointing experience.

    Great time
