We had so much on the bio bay kayak tour in Fajardo. The staff was helpful, informative and kind. We are beginner kayakers and we were a little nervous going in to a night kayak adventure. Thanks to the staff those nerves were put to rest. Nothing scary about it. We would definitely do this again!

I did the night tour and it was the highlight of my trip! We kayaked for three miles through beautiful mangrove swamps before we entered Fajardo Bio Bay for the real spectacle. Photos do not do justice to how incredible the bioluminescent plankton look in person! They truly are the stars of the ocean. This is a must-do if you are in Puerto Rico!

This was an amazing experience we will remember for a long time. Paddling through the mangroves in the dark was just magical, as was the bioluminescence- and we were there on a “bad” night! We absolutely loved our guide Miguel! Ineliz, Francisco, and Brian were a great crew. Definitely recommend!
Do note that you get in the water waist deep to get in your kayak, so when they say you will get wet they mean it! I also think this is maybe not the tour for newbie kayakers - it’s a fairly narrow canal with little visibility and a current. If you have kayaked at all it’s not overly difficult, and absolutely worth it.

Unique experience. The guides were wonderful and knowledgeable. They ensured that we could see the illumination even in the rain and other undesirable conditions. Will definitely do this again.

This whole experience was a waste of time and money. The organization was poor. The bioluminescence could only be seen for a few moments under a tarp. The water was gross and ruined our clothes.
At one point, they had us slather bug repellent all over our bodies. There was an older man that was pumping the bottle, then covering his groin and up under his shorts and underwear with the repellent, then proceeding to touch the bottles and get more repellent. Slathering himself inappropriately.
The location the vendor sent out was about a 1/4 of a mile away from where the meetup point was, and we nearly missed the tour to begin with - in hindsight I wish we had.
They allowed children to pilot kayaks alone, which lead to the kids crashing into others and crossing paths with the other kayakers.
Instead of providing a lanyard or dry bag, phones were taken and you could not take pictures.
The bathrooms used for multiple companies and had 10+ people in line at all times.

Very beautiful kayak at night through the mangroves out to the bio-bay. Loved seeing the sparkling plankton and so many stars. Friendly guides.
Corinne_W, Feb 2026
Kayaking through the mangroves and into the open lagoon was so beautiful. The bioluminescence looked like fireflies in the water. It was incredible!
Annemarie_F, Feb 2026
The guides give good instructions at the beginning. There is a bathroom facility available and parking onsite. Can be physically demanding if current is strong. They have eco friendly bug spray, provide water and snacks for afterwards. It’s very dark but you can see the red lights of the kayaks in front of you. Amazing bioluminescence in the dark canals, very exciting and it was right after it rained.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for the fantastic review! 🌌🚣♀️
We’re so glad you enjoyed the adventure and found the instructions helpful — our team works hard to make sure everyone feels prepared and safe before heading out. It’s great to hear the bioluminescence was amazing that night, especially after the rain when conditions can really make it sparkle! ✨
We also appreciate you mentioning the physical aspect of the paddle, as currents can definitely add to the challenge. Thanks for joining us and for highlighting those helpful details for future guests. Hope to see you back on the water again soon! 🌿🌊

What a gem and fabulous adventure! The crew on Feb. 7 was so fun and very organized. They are professional and love what they do. The bioluminescent was spectacular! Other worldly! A must do adventure!

We’re thrilled to hear you had such a fabulous adventure with our team, they truly love what they do, and it shows! So happy the bioluminescence was spectacular and felt “other worldly” — that’s exactly the magic we hope every guest gets to experience.
We really appreciate the kind words and recommendation. Hope to paddle with you again on your next visit to Puerto Rico! 🚣♀️🌿

The tour guides at Kayaking Puerto Rico can’t control nature, we get that. But after kayaking out, they explain that the combination of the cold, recent rain, and lunar stage we would have approximately 10-15% visibility which was “sparkles” in the water. Of course we were disappointed, it felt like the tour should have been cancelled as they clearly knew that or they should have more clearly set expectations.
Otherwise was just ok- not a ton of direct or communication. Lots of variation in experience of participants (people should know it’s very dark and you go against currents, but I was surprised at the number of people who had never kayaked before who thought this would be a nice starter).
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for your feedback,
We truly understand how disappointing low bioluminescence can be. As you mentioned, glow levels are affected by natural factors like rain, temperature, and moon phase, which can change quickly and aren’t always predictable until we’re on the water. For safety and operational reasons, we only cancel when conditions are unsafe, not based solely on glow intensity.
We do our best to set expectations in advance and explain conditions before launching so guests can decide whether to proceed. We also brief participants on the physical nature of the paddle, currents, and darkness, though we appreciate your note that this could be communicated even more clearly for first-time kayakers.
Your comments are very helpful and will be shared with our team as we continue improving pre-tour guidance and communication.

Kayaking for novices is tough. And kayaking through tree-lined water in complete darkness was a little difficult sometimes too. The bioluminescence was very underwhelming.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback — we really appreciate it.
We understand how challenging the experience can feel, especially for guests who are newer to kayaking. Paddling through mangroves at night is definitely a more active and immersive adventure, and it’s not uncommon for it to feel demanding at times.
We also understand the disappointment when the bioluminescence is more subtle. As a natural phenomenon, its visibility can vary significantly depending on environmental conditions, and we know that can impact expectations.
Your perspective is valuable and helps future guests better understand what the experience involves. Thank you again for taking the time to share it.
Trouper_S, Jan 2026
We had a wonderful experience. Took the 8:00 tour. Kayaking through the mangrove forest was magical. The water was so still, the sounds of the coquis everywhere, stars above. The lead guide was great. The others were just kinda there I guess in case of emergency.
Be prepared to PADDLE a lot! Dont get me wrong, I loved the tour, but there is not a second to stop kayaking along the 1 mile trip to the lagoon. How I would have loved to just sit for a minute among the mangroves. But you can’t. You have to go go go. You get about a 10 minute break once you get to the lagoon for a quick educational piece. And then it was back to paddling .
My only complaint was the lack of communication in advance. It would have been nice to plan ahead that you’re basically going to get very wet. I would have brought a change of clothes, towel, etc.
At the end you get a Costco type granola bar.
I would highly recommend this experience just be prepared to paddle paddle paddle!
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review 😊
We’re really glad to hear you found the experience magical — kayaking through the mangroves at night with calm water, sounds of nature, and the stars overhead truly is something special. We also appreciate you highlighting how active the tour is. It’s definitely a more hands-on paddling experience, and your feedback helps future guests better understand what to expect.
Thank you as well for the note about preparation. We always value feedback that helps us improve how clearly we communicate ahead of time, especially when it comes to physical effort and getting wet.
We’re happy to hear you’d still highly recommend the experience and that it left such a strong impression overall. Thanks again for joining us and for sharing your perspective ✨🌊
Michael_F, Jan 2026
The experience was great! I don't think I would have appreciated it as much if I did the boat experience. I advise having some prior practice in a kayak prior as this was not easy. There was a tide during our day, so there was less bioluminescence activity, but you could still see diffuse specks as you wave your hand through the water.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for your kind review!
We’re so glad you enjoyed the experience and that you were able to see some of the bioluminescent “sparkles” in the water — such a unique sight! ✨🌌 We also appreciate you mentioning the kayaking aspect; tides and currents can definitely make the paddle more challenging on certain nights, and prior kayaking experience can be very helpful.
It means a lot that you felt the kayak tour allowed you to better connect with the bay and its natural beauty. Thank you for joining us and for sharing such thoughtful insights for future guests! 🚣♀️🌿
Daniel_R, Jan 2026
The guides were great, but the promotional images of the bioluminescence are extremely exaggerated! If you go at 8pm and look forward to stopping at one of the food vendors there before you leave… you will find them all closed. Such a disappointing excursion. Out of all the activities we did while in Puerto Rico- this was the worst.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for your feedback,
We’re glad to hear you found the guides great, though we’re sorry the overall experience did not meet your expectations. Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon and can vary greatly from night to night depending on weather, moon phase, tides, and recent rainfall. Because of this, promotional images are meant to represent the bay at its brightest and most ideal conditions, which cannot be guaranteed every evening.
When conditions indicate lower glow levels, we send advance notices so guests have the option to reschedule or cancel within the appropriate timeframe. We encourage reviewing these updates closely, as they are intended to help set expectations before arrival.
Regarding the food vendors, they are independently operated and not affiliated with our company, and their hours can vary. We’re sorry if they were closed during your visit, though this is outside of our control.
We appreciate your comments and will continue working on setting clear expectations so guests can make the most informed decision possible before their tour.

Super fun! We kayaked out to the ocean and looked at the bioluminescence and constellations and different animals in the water. had a great time
sharonbarbara, Dec 2025
Great experience. Would recommend. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Brian. Just a note, does require physical exertion.
Jane_W, Nov 2025
We are in our 70’s but fit. It was a manageable workout. Bioluminescence was a bit disappointing, but the night kayaking through the mangroves was awesome. Leaders managed logistics of the large group well. We have not received the promised photos. Please send (or resend) them.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
It’s wonderful to hear that the night paddle through the mangroves was memorable and that the workout felt manageable—many guests admire how active and adventurous our 70+ paddlers are! 🛶💪
We appreciate your patience regarding the photos. I’d be happy to help get those to you—please email us at info@kayakingpuertorico.com
with the name on the reservation, the date/time of your tour, and we’ll resend the album right away 📸✨
Thank you again for spending the evening with us, and we hope to see you back in Puerto Rico for another adventure under the stars! 🌙🌴

My daughter was the youngest in our crew and her 75 year old grandmother the oldest. The crew made sure we felt safe and helped tremendously when we needed. And they were so happy to help. We’re so glad we partook in this experience as it’ll be the most memorable one of our trip. From the glowing water to the amazing stars and constellations, every moment of the night felt magical.
Mariah_E, Oct 2025
The instructors were very pleasant, patient and kind. We or I tipped the boat only after struggling so bad the instructor had to clip himself to the kayak to so we could keep up with the group. However, There wasn’t any glow of any kind and the smell was awful. Like sewage. It would be a cute day trip just to do kayaking through the lagoon but there was nothing bioluminescence about it. I think they should change the name of the tour. Also be aware of shrimp. They will jump into the boat. And it was startling for me because I didn’t expect it.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for joining us and for sharing your feedback. 💙 We’re glad to hear our guides made you feel supported throughout the experience — kayaking through the mangrove channels can be quite a workout, especially on nights with stronger currents!
Regarding the bioluminescence, we completely understand your disappointment. The glow is a natural phenomenon that can fluctuate greatly depending on recent weather, tides, and moonlight. Whenever our guides observe reduced glow levels, we notify all guests in advance — typically about a week ahead. In your case, since your reservation was made the same day at 3:30 a.m., our low-glow notice was sent out as soon as our office reopened that morning.
While we wish nature had put on a brighter show that night, we truly appreciate you giving the lagoon experience a try and sharing your perspective. It helps us keep improving and better prepare future guests. 🌿✨
April_S, Oct 2025
Great experience! Even though we saw lower bioluminescence, due to the conditions, was still a wonderful time! We had a small group, which made it a more intimate experience. Tour guides were top-notch: super-informative, personal, and laid back! Would definitely recommend!
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 💙🌴
We’re thrilled to hear you still had such a wonderful time, even with the lower bioluminescence levels that night. ✨ The glow can vary naturally with weather and moon conditions, but it’s great to know the experience remained magical thanks to our amazing guides. 🚣♀️🌙
We’re happy you enjoyed the smaller group setting and the personal touch from our crew — they’ll be so glad to read your kind words. 🌊⚓️
Thanks again for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure under the stars! 🌟🇵🇷
Marlene_A, Sep 2025
You will be getting wet from the waist down. The sounds of the night life were amazing and our tour guide was very informative and funny!
Tom_L, Aug 2025
The guides try to do their best but the situation is terrible. There is no bioluminescence at this time, and the water stinks of rotting seaweed. This company knows of these problems, but is still marketing this tour as if they don’t exist. Very irresponsible.
Laura_R, Jul 2025
We could not see any bio illumination. Would not have booked the excursion had I known it wasn’t going to be visible. Paid $400 for a night kayak tour for 4. Way too many people trying to fight their way through the mangrove. Not sure why there were boats traveling at the same time, seemed dangerous for the people trying to get out of their way
Lynda_B, Jul 2025
This was so relaxing and exhilarating. I am so glad I booked this activity. The bioluminescent bay was one of the best things I have ever seen.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
So glad you enjoyed the magic of the bay! It truly is a one-of-a-kind experience, and we’re happy it was such a memorable part of your trip.
Celeste_G, May 2025
It is something you won’t imagine until you actually see it. It is kind of difficut to do the kayaking in the dark, but the experience it is worth it at the end.
Jazmin_S, Apr 2025
Unfortunately, our tour was cancelled because of the weather. While we were being given the instructions, we could see lightning & hear the thunder. We were taken out to the water but after about 5 min in, we were told to row back in because the storm was right on top of us. It did create a bit of chaos, with everyone trying to turn around & steer quickly but we made it back safely & were given the option to reschedule or get a refund. We opted for the refund because it was supposed to keep raining during our whole trip otherwise we gladly would have rescheduled.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. 🌙💙 We’re so sorry the weather didn’t cooperate that night — safety is always our top priority, and once lightning gets too close, we have to bring everyone back in immediately. We understand how disappointing that must’ve been after getting started, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during the quick turnaround.
We’re glad you made it back safely and that the team offered you the option to reschedule or refund. Hopefully, you’ll visit us again under clearer skies — the Bio Bay is truly magical when the weather plays along! 🌊🚣♀️💫
Tracy_M, Apr 2025
We really enjoyed kayaking down the canal and into the lagoon. While it was cloudy causing light pollution our guides equipped us with tarps to give us a great experience. Thank you Miquel, Brian, Daniel, and Francisco.
Kimberly_C, Apr 2025
Lots of fun. Definitely a bit vigorous and if you struggle seeing at night then it might be kinda difficult for you to follow the person in front of you. Still a super cool experience and would do it again for sure.
Hannah_I, Apr 2025
This was an incredible experience, highly recommended! We took the later tour, so it was dark. Seeing the bioluminescence was incredible.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thank you so much for your kind review! We're thrilled to hear you had an incredible time on the later tour—experiencing the bioluminescence in the dark is truly magical. We really appreciate the recommendation and would love to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure!
