This Saona Island tour was a stunning and peaceful experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. One of the best aspects was how well-timed the stops were. At nearly every location, we either arrived before the crowds or just as they were leaving, which made it feel intimate and exclusive.
Our guide, Ingrid, was truly exceptional. Her deep care for people, animals, and the local culture stood out, and her thoughtfulness was unmatched—she even brought dog food and a vaccine for a dog during the tour. Small gestures like this made the experience feel even more special.
Highlights of the Tour:
• Snorkeling and Wildlife: We traveled by speedboat to all the stops, which was both exciting and efficient. Snorkeling gear was provided, and we got to see starfish and turtles in crystal-clear waters.
• Mano Juan Village: Visiting this small, peaceful village was a unique experience. Ingrid’s tour of the sea turtle conservation project was educational and inspiring, as she shared the importance of protecting these animals and avoiding products that harm them.
• Authentic Lunch: The lunch stop was a standout moment. The food was incredibly flavorful and authentic, far exceeding anything I’d had at my resort. Afterward, we had time to relax on hammocks or beach chairs and soak in the gorgeous scenery.
• Rum and Refreshments: Barcelo Añejo rum was available at every stop, along with mixers like Sprite, Coca-Cola, and orange juice (included). There was even the option to buy a coconut infused with rum (not included).
A professional photographer accompanied us throughout the tour, capturing beautiful pictures so we didn’t have to worry about our phones. For just $40, you can get all the photos sent to your device quickly via AirDrop or USB-C.
Things to Keep in Mind:
1. Transportation Issues: The pickup process at Barceló Beach All-Inclusive left a sour taste at the start. I had to walk 30 minutes to the front gate because they wouldn’t come inside the resort for pickup, and the bus was 20 minutes late. However, the drop-off was inside the resort gate, which added to the confusion.
2. Bring Essentials: Don’t forget sunscreen (not provided), a towel, and a change of clothes.
3. Time Commitment: This tour takes the entire day. Be ready to leave by 7ish and return around 7 as well. Also, eat before you go because no breakfast is served, though coffee is provided.
Other Notes:
• Locals offering massages may approach you at one stop, but it’s easy to decline politely.
• While alcohol is included at all stops, some vendors sell drinks separately if you want something specific.
Despite the hiccup with transportation, the tour itself was phenomenal. It was informative, relaxing, and well-organized, with a dedicated and professional team. If you’re looking for a day filled with culture, nature, and tranquility, I highly recommend this Saona Island tour!

I loved absolutely everything about this eco-tour; the tourguide, the seaturtleproject, the starfish, the beaches, the small village, the food. Really a 10 out of 10!

Kirsten was amazing. We loved the speed boat tour, the lunch, and the snorkeling. Would highly recommend. The only downside was the transport from Punta Cana.

I had an incredible experience to Soana Island! The coordination was top-notch, especially regarding the timing. I was the first pickup of the day, scheduled for 7:00 AM, but I headed down to the resort entrance at 6:45 AM and the driver was already there and ready to go.
While the first hour was spent picking up other guests at various resorts, it was worth it once we hit the water. The speedboat got us to the island before the masses arrived—it literally felt like we had the place to ourselves. The team clearly knows how to time things perfectly to avoid the crowds. The turtle sanctuary was a great educational touch, too. A long day (back by 7:02 PM), but absolutely worth every minute!

The most amazing experience! Run by SeaVis and Kiki was our guide for the day, although all the staff at SeaVis were amazing.
Pick up was on time-ish (its the Caribbean) expect a relaxed life! Drive to the boat and check in with the team was easy.
We had an unexpected dolphin spotting which made the first 10mins of our journey unforgettable. Our driver was great and allowed us time to view the dolphins but also great for the duration of the tour.
It was lovely to go to the village and meet the locals (and local dogs 😁) plus a view of the turtle sanctuary. It was the wrong season for hatchlings but learning about the conservation work was great! I bought some local handmade products too - coco hair oil and honey.
We had lunch which was delicious! Some of the best food I’d had in the DR.
We took another stop where we could snorkel and relax which was lovely.
We then took to the mangroves - we saw turtles, stingray and the largest starfish in bright yellow.
We then went along coast a bit further to have another snorkel to sea the starfish and enjoyed drinks on the boat.
The tour was well organised so that we were not with (many) other groups at any point which made the day extremely relaxing and not forced.
One of the best trips ever!

The bus transfer was a disaster. We were late being picked up (40 minutes) and it was 2 bus transfers home. On the way there the driver stopped at a random gas station for 10 minutes (not to get gas) so not sure why that could not be done before.
On the way home we were transferred after everyone else was dropped off the bus to another smaller bus in a dodgy area. Both drivers barely spoke English and it was a bit scary and they just pointed and said go. Took 3 hours to get back to our resort, almost double the time to get to the tour itself. The driver also stopped at a random store on the return ride to get a phone cord as his phone died and he seemed lost. We got turned around on many closed roads.
Second issue was the boat nearly capsized because the captain hit a wave too hard the wrong way. Most people were thrown from there seats (I was crushed by 2 grown men) and he just kept going like it wasn’t a big deal. I have been on many boats and you could clearly see this was driver error.
Outside of those issues the guide Rosario was very nice and it was fun.
I would not rebook though based on the issues. We picked it as it was a smaller group tour and transfer times should have been a lot less. The tour time stated 7-8 hours, we were gone for 13 from when we left to when we returned.

- we were told pick up was at 7am and came to the van at 6:57. Though we were 3 minutes early, the driver was annoyed that we were 'late' and aggressively gestured towards his watch repeatedly. Language barrier meant we couldn't explain that we aren't late. Not a nice welcome
- Other group at a different hotel was also told 7am but we picked them up after us at 7.15
- driver did not speak English at all, so queries couldn't be answered
- rest of the tour was brilliantly organised and executed. Staff were great and Rosario was an exceptional asset to the team.
- as promised the locations were not crowded. This tour goes further than other tours as it uses a smaller speedboat.
- free coffee and/or rum & coke interspersed throughout the day
- no shoes allowed on the boat but beach shoes were fine
- waterproof phone pouch highly recommended. It rained when we went so everything got drenched. We also got sprayed with water when it wasn't raining.
Suggestions to provider: provide specific pick up times so guests don't get shouted at or left waiting to be picked up.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Dear Kishan_C,
Thank you for your review and for sharing both the positives and areas for improvement. We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour, especially the unique and less crowded stops, as well as the excellent service provided by Rosario. We truly believe in providing a family like experience, and we’re pleased to know it made a difference for you.
We apologize for the experience at the pick-up. We understand how frustrating it can be, and we regret that the driver’s actions caused you discomfort. We will certainly look into your suggestion to provide more precise pick-up times to avoid any confusion in the future and ensure every guest feels welcomed from the moment they join us.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback, and we hope to welcome you back on another excursion with us soon!

We went on this trip a couple of days ago and it was well worth the money.
Ingrid was our guide and was very knowledgeable and also had a great personality.
The timings of each of our stops was excellent, so that we mainly had the locations to ourselves.
The food on the trip was good , and there was more than sufficient drinks available.
We saw plenty of turtles, a manta ray, various fish at the snorkeling stops and of course the large red starfish.
The boat journeys were good too , and a good way to get plenty of activities packed in to one trip.
I would definitely recommend this trip.

Fantastic trip well worth the extra money. We saw all of the big catamarans arriving as we left the island, that is not the correct way to enjoy this beautiful spot. I would definitely recommend you do this tour.
Highlights:
- the speedboat ride is fun and relaxing
- the island and sea are beautiful
- snorkelling is super interesting
- tour guide Ingrid was fantastic, both informative and caring
Some tips:
- It is about 1.30 ride from Punta Cana to the boat
- There is a toilet before one gets on the boat but no toilet paper
- The boat is quite tightly packed. Better to bring the minimum amount you can on board. Key items being: a (compact) towel, sun tan lotion, water, flip flops, change of clothes (for journey home), plasters
Also one final comment: The policy was that we had to take off our footwear each time before boarding. This resulted in me moderately cutting the side of my unprotected right little toe on a jagged edge as I walked down the boat. I think that policy should be revisited given what happened to me.

Dear Thomas_J,
We're thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful time during your excursion with us! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
Regarding teh footwear: Our boat crew tries to avoid slipping in flipflops and sandy floors by doing this but in case you would like to put your shoes back on after getting on the boat there is no issue wih that.
It's feedback like yours that keeps us motivated to provide the best possible service. We look forward to seeing you again on your possible future vacation!
Warm regards

Overall this was a wonderful experience. Ingrid is an amazing guide who made sure the entire day was amazing. We especially loved exploring the fishing village and snorkeling with the star fish. The food and drinks were great!
We will definitely be doing another excursion with them next year.

Our van driver fell asleep while driving 6 passengers and had to woken abruptly just before hitting another car when drifting into another lane

Without exaggerating, I can say this is one of the best tours I have been on in multiple countries! Extremely well organized and with a small, intimate feeling. The staff loves this community and the nature around it.
Our guide Ingrid was amazing! A refugee who has whole heartedly adopted the Dominican life! I was impressed by how many languages she spoke, but I was more impressed at the genuine love she has for the Dominican Republic. You can tell how much she loves the locals & animals, and how much they love her.
My favorite part of the tour was the sea turtle conservation project. The love and hard work that goes into this project is inspiring! We were fortunate to get to see baby turtles and it was awesome to hear about the good this project is doing. We also got to see wild adult turtles and sting rays when we were at the mangroves, which was a real treat! We also saw, and swam above, many starfish in the natural pool at the end of our tour.
The tour was timed perfectly where it was quiet at all our locations, so it felt like a private tour. The lunch offered was the best food I had in the Dominican Republic! Authentic and fantastic! The nap I had after the lunch was also the best nap I’ve ever had.
The photographer was great and captured both posed and natural pictures. It was a great value because I could just enjoy the tour without being afraid I would miss out on getting pictures. Our captain was great at driving the boat. There were times the waves got a little choppy, but he didn’t speed through and make it uncomfortable.
Tips: Bring sunscreen, towels, and sunglasses. Bring dry clothes for the ride back home! I was uncomfortable in wet clothes, and it is about 1 hour 15 min drive from Bayahibe to Punta Cana. Rookie mistake on our end! Also, give yourself ample time to get to the pickup location. They want you to meet at the security gates of the Punta Cana resorts and it can take a bit to walk to them. This is so that it’s quick to pick up and leave! If they have to drive in, it will take forever, but many people are confused by this. “Front gate” = “security gate”. If you don’t do this, it causes everyone to wait. Since the tour does drop you off in the evening, they WILL drop you off IN the resort lobbies, so you don’t walk in the dark.
If you are looking for a party boat atmosphere, this tour is not it. But if you are looking for a tour that really cares about the environment and the locals who call these places home, you won’t find a tour that is better!

Dear Jaquel,
We're thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful time during your excursion with us! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
Regarding the transport that is correct. As an independent tour operator, most hotels do not allow our drivers to enter their premises due to their security policies.
We strive to pick you up as close to your location as possible, but we've faced challenges that have led to delays for all our guests. While some security guards may occasionally be more flexible, we cannot rely on these exceptions as they may cause further inconsistencies and delays in our service.
We try our best to make it as comfortable as possible.
It's feedback like yours that keeps us motivated to provide the best possible service. We look forward to seeing you again on your possible future vacation!
