Private Tour to Sacred Valley

I am an experienced traveler who has taken many guided tours before. The description of the sites was basically accurate, however, we booked a private tour with an English-speaking guide and his English skills were below what we expected and he was at times difficult to understand. He was a poor communicator and took little interest in engaging in conversation with us. His knowledge was conveyed robotically as though from a script. As an alternative I would have preferred to arrange my own transportation and taken my information from the signage. As it was I felt rushed and did not have time to read the signs. Of the four sites we visited only Ollantaytoma and Pisac were worthwhile. Travel between sites on long and bumpy roads should be clarified in the tour description. At the end of the tour the guide was rude and dismissive. If the guide had been personable I would have rated the tour a four.

So much to see!! We loved it.

We enjoyed our visits to all the sights- especially the Salt Mines and Morey! Honestly they were all great. Lunch was a delicious buffet, though interestingly our group was split across three restaurants- based on the booking platform I believe. Anyway - be warned it is a looooong day, and the roads are bumpy and windy. If you tend towards car sickness, bring some meds!

We were communicated with days in advance, picked up in a comfortable van on time, made multiple incredible stops where we learned a lot of history and also had time for wonderful photos, and had a delicious lunch as well! Not VIP- combined with different tour types and chaotic

There were a lot of avoidable hiccups with this tour and it was clear they had combined a bunch of different reservations into one group. We were rushed and running everywhere and the guide said it was because people were taking too long and it was a 2 days in one tour but: 1) it wasn’t advertised that way and 2) I was the first pickup of the day and they were late…so I know for fact some responsibility was on the tour agency. In addition, I booked an English tour and it had mostly Spanish speakers…so most of the conversations were in Spanish and I had to remind the guide to include English too. Logistics were tough (lunch was at 3 different places pending what you booked), and I had to keep informing my guide that my tickets and hotel return were included. Instead, they dropped everyone in a central location, and paid a taxi to take me back to the hotel when they realized it was included. Everything worked out fine but the reason I booked a “VIP” tour was to avoid these types of hassles…not just placed in a cab with someone who doesn’t speak English. That’s the type of thing the premium price tag is supposed to cover. Instead the cab almost got into an accident and had a verbal altercation with the other driver….definitely not the white glove I expected of ViP
