Mediocre Food and a lovely view

Jeanie_F, Aug 2026
The altitude at this site is a major factor. This is of course no reflection on the tour itself. But it is a "know before you go" tip. We took the tour today and had planned to hike the full way. We ended up riding horses up and walking down. Perhaps the tour could allow more time at the hiking level before beginning. A full description of the options for climbing up should be included in the tour description. The mountain itself is beautiful and worth visiting. The only real complaint we had about this tour was the restaurant we were taken to for the included breakfast and lunch. It was mediocre food, with no good beverage options. Two meals there was just disappointing. All in all, the tour could be better.

Rainbow mountain

It was a really good tour that I would highly recommend. They provide food before and after the hike which is really good cause you have to wake up early and then feel exhausted and hungry after the hike. The guide even provided us with walking sticks, which helped a lot. He offered to take pictures of two of us. However, the tour advertised that we will be picked up from our hotel, which didn't happen in our case. Although our hotel wasn't accessible by car, they could've chosen a closer pick-up location at least. Another slight issue was although we were given a meet-up spot, it was a huge square and we had to message the organisers for some time before they got back to us saying they'll be there in 2 mins, which was later than agreed.

This is a must see even...

This is a must see even during rainy season! The coordination of transfers was seamless, there were horses for those who didn’t want to make the entire hike up and/or down, and the guide and driver took great care of us. The meals were also wonderful.

The wonderful colors of Rainbow Mountain

Ernesto made me feel welcome from the beginning. He was concerned for me during the trek and checked in with me several times. I appreciated his concern and professionalism. Our driver William was kind and very skilled. He was the first to greet me when I made it down the mountain!

No show. No communication.

I had booked this a while ago and had been in communication with them and I even asked before we got to Cusco what time they were gonna pick us up at the hotel. Also note you have to message them first through WhatsApp they’re never gonna reach out to you first. They told me that they would let me know the day before. Day before came, I messaged them and called them because it was already 5 PM an and no one told me about a pick up time. I even had the Hilton call them and nobody responded. Ultimately no one ever showed up and we had to go with a different company. For the price the fact that they did not follow through is really inappropriate. Luckily Hilton had a company and it was a lot cheaper than this place. And they offered the same thing. Definitely will be getting my money back with my credit card to tell them service was not provided.

Rainbows in the snow

Dave_J, Apr 2025
Unfortunately had snowfall while at the summit, so couldn’t really see the colors. However, it was cool to be there in those conditions. The ride from Cusco to Rainbow Mountain was especially enjoyable. Lots of small towns, mountains, valleys, and fairly smooth roads through the first two-thirds (dirt roads are the final 1/3). We even enjoyed the scenery more than Sacred Valley. We ate breakfast and lunch (on the way there and the way back) at the same restaurant. The food was okay…buffet style. There was not much narration or information provided by the guide, but he did make sure we were organized and safe. Speaking of safe, the altitude is the ‘real deal’ and even though the hike wasn’t steep or strenuous, several people felt ill and couldn’t make it to the summit. Once you get to the main viewing point (think iconic pictures) you can continue I hiking up to the summit. You will have reached 5,040 meters. Now that is a cool bragging right!

Amazing , yet challenging.

Loved Everything during our tour can’t thank “El Guía” Jerver enough for helping us through the mountain. I would give 5 stars but booking through Viator it does not disclose that this tour is mainly a Brazilian Tour. We had to inform the guide of us not understanding portuguese, and he had no problem with speaking spanish to us (I selected English but speak spanish to) this is extra time taken translating and repeating himself and taking time on us , which the guide had no issues but it may have been an inconvenience to the Brazilian folk with us and made me feel some type of way. And on another note, there was no contact from the agency at all, it says to contact via whatsapp- but I couldn’t find any number through Viator app , I had to look for it by googling the travel agency and reaching out to confirm the set time with them. Again great experience, great guide and driver.

Super helpful guide for a challenging hike

The tour guide was great and super helpful! Our group had a mix of hiking abilities and he was super helpful in getting us up the mountain. We also stopped for breakfast and lunch and had great meals
