Amazing ATV Ride but Difficult Hike

We had almost two hours of riding the ATVs and it was so much fun! Thankfully they were automatic vehicles so we didn’t have to worry about switching gears when driving up the hill. Be prepared for a dusty ride! Wear a face covering and sunglasses while you ride. The hike itself is VERY DIFFICULT! If you are not a frequent hiker or use to walking at high elevations this tour will be very hard to complete. Our tour guide was so nice and encouraging while we were hiking but we needed to make frequent stops to stretch and catch our breath. You may get light headed or have an upset stomach from the elevation change so bring medicine with you to help with the sickness. My friend and I are not experienced hikers and the hike took us almost 2.5 hours to complete. The tour guide stayed with us the whole time and made sure we were safe but I would caution anyone who wants to make the hike. There are options to ride a horse or ride on the back of a dirt bike with a local a majority of the way up (50-60 soles each way). We definitely paid to ride the motorbike back down the hill after the rigorous hike and waited for the rest of our tour group at the bottom of the hill. The views were amazing and we got amazing photos. I would recommend for anyone who is in physical shape to make the trek or prepare to pay the locals to drive you up the mountain.

Adventure of a Lifetime

This Day was amazing! We got picked up early by our driver Adriel and tour guide Solidad and stopped for a great local breakfast. We bought alpaca ponchos and hats as it's very cold. Make sure to bring very warm clothes as the higher you go, the colder it gets. Also bring comfortable walking shoes! After breakfast, our very skilled driver took us the last hour of the trip to the entrance. The road is on the edge of the mountain and winds around it. It was a bit scary, but our driver was great and made us feel comfortable and enjoy it! When we got to the entrance, Solidad gave us coca leaves... definitely helps with the altitude. The further up you go, the thinner the air is, so it’s harder to breathe. Take your time! Solidad went at our pace and educated us along the way as she told us about the community of people living on the mountain. There are also horses you can take part of the way which definitely help... as when you don’t expend your own energy it is much easier. Best advice is to take your time ... getting to the top is totally worth it. The views are breathtaking, the people are amazing. Solidad taught us about the culture, customs, and rituals there on the mountain. We could stay as long as we wanted at the top, so this tour is really a great fit for all types of families. Although I wouldn’t recommend it for young children. On the way back to the hotel we stopped for a beautiful lunch and met wonderful people. Everything was well organized, thorough. It is a definite must see in Peru!!
