The time in Machu Picchu with Ruben was amazing. I could’ve easily spent more time listening to him speak about the history of the place and Incas.
As others have mentioned, logistics weren’t handled well (could be a cultural thing). For example, one guide got us to Aguas Calientes and then scheduled a time for us the next day to take the train up to Mach Picchu. The time came and went with no contact. I noticed another guide from the same company and asked him about it. Supposedly I was supposed to meet with him. It all ended well but better coordination would’ve been appreciated.

Dear Susan_S,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience!
We’re happy to hear that your time at Machu Picchu with Ruben was memorable and insightful. He’s indeed a passionate and knowledgeable guide, and we’ll make sure to pass along your kind words.
At the same time, we sincerely apologize for the logistical confusion you experienced in Aguas Calientes. We fully understand the importance of smooth coordination, especially on a trip as meaningful as this. While we always aim to provide seamless service, we regret that in this instance, we fell short of that expectation.
Your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps us improve. We are currently reviewing our coordination process to ensure that communication between guides and travelers is more precise and more reliable moving forward.
Thank you once again for your thoughtful review. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back with an even better experience in the future.
Warm regards,
Customer Experience Team

This trip was not the most organised tour! Daniel, the tour admin operator, was very last minute and unhelpful. If we hadn’t kept messaging to follow up on things, I’m not certain that the trip would have gone so smoothly.
Day 1 did not meet our expectations. We were essentially left on our own at the Machu Picchu location. Upon arrival, Daniel also changed our hotel at the last minute. If I hadn't messaged him for directions, we would have gone to the wrong hotel. Also, the hot springs is very much an independent activity as you do not go with the tour / group.
Day 2 was much better. Machu Picchu day matched the itinerary and expectations. Our tour guide was very helpful and knowledgeable, and we highly recommend him. Our tour guide was the highlight of the trip beyond the sights of Machu Picchu. However, It's unfortunate that Daniel's performance brought down the overall experience.

Communication is horrible with the Happy Gringo management team, and what you do get is often inaccurate and what they think you want to hear. We went from having tickets into Machu Picchu, to needing to get ticket in-person from the queue when we reached Aguas Calientes to HGT not even having taken the initial steps to get the queue tickets. In the end, they did get us in (I’m not how or if I want to know), but not without constant anxiety from all your members. We frankly weren’t sure we would make into Machu Picchu until we went through the gate.
This was all after we didn’t have someone to meet us as we exited the train in AC.
The only bright spot was Reuben, our guide, who made the visit to Machu Picchu a great experience. He was incredibly patient and knowledgeable.

Hello dear Benjamin,
Thanks for your time to leave us your Machu Picchu experience!
We are really sorry that the communication was not enough with you. Of course, we will improve this system soon.
The reason why we had to get the Machu Picchu tickets at AC is because the Machu Picchu system where all the companies buy the tickets has collapsed. Therefore, many companies had to lose the Machu Picchu and Inca Trail tickets. The Machu Picchu system is out of our control. Therefore, many comanies had to get the tickets for Machu Picchu at Aguas Calientes town as we did with you.
We are happy that you had good guided tour with our tour guide Ruben at Machu Picchu citadel.
We wish you all the best!
