Itinerary
Relive the golden age of train travel as you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu aboard the elegant Belmond Hiram Bingham train. Start this VIP trip with hotel pickup, transferring you to Cusco’s Poroy Station where you board your first-class train for a trip you won’t soon forget. Grab a complimentary welcome drink as you step aboard the train, bedecked in blue and gold trim, entering a world of luxury, top-notch food, and exquisite service.
Admire the train’s lavish interior, decorated with shining brass, polished wood, and rich upholstery, as you head to your seat. Soon the train pulls out of the station, heading on an unforgettable journey to the famous Incan citadel. During your ride, check out the train’s observation platform for stellar views of the Andes, and then proceed to the bar car and dining room, where you can enjoy the gastronomic delights of a 3-course lunch (see sample menu in the Itinerary below). Pair your meal with a selection of Argentinean, Chilean, or Peruvian wines, or sample other local libations such as a Pisco Sour or Cusqueña beer.
Once you’ve had your fill of lunch, sit back and relax as the train’s on-board musicians perform traditional Peruvian songs using guitars and Cajon box drums. Or head back to the observation platform, where you can soak up the incredible views of the surrounding Andean peaks, lush green valleys and roaring river that surround you on all sides.
Upon your arrival at Aguas Calientes, board the luxury transfer bus specially reserved for Hiram Bingham passengers for the quick ride up to Machu Picchu. Enjoy this dedicated shuttle when you see the waiting hordes at the station queued up by the hundreds as they wait for mass transport.
Then snake your way up the winding switchback roads to the 7,000-foot (2,134m) mountaintop that is home to this most famous of Andean archaeological sites. Stroll the incredible terraces, elegant buildings and mysterious temples of this superlative site with your guide, making sure to admire the solar clock and engineering marvel of its intricate irrigation system. Following your guided tour, continue your exploration of the grounds at your leisure before heading to the mountaintop Belmond Sanctuary Lodge for afternoon tea. Have a scone or a sandwich with your tea and coffee, or try an appetizer with your choice of wine.
Finish your Machu Picchu journey with a shuttle ride back down to Aguas Calientes, where you climb back on board your luxury train for the return trip to Cusco. During the ride back partake in a 4-course gourmet dinner (see sample menu in the Itinerary below) and celebrate your amazing day with the onboard musicians, singing and dancing as you make your way back to Cusco for hotel drop-off.

Worth every penny! This is a magical day, the experience from start to finish is top notch. The Hiram Bingham team were beyond amazing. They even gave us backpacks and water bottles for touring Machu Picchu. Our guide at the site was Lubi, and he was an amazing guide! Thank you for the wonderful panorama picture Lubi! And not to mention the food was outstanding. This was a bucket list day we will never forget!

This tour company showed up late for our hotel pickup. That was the only downside. There is horrible morning traffic and I would have wanted them to account for that. We missed the welcome drink and dances and almost missed the train. The Hiram Bingham train and Belmond staff on the train were great! So welcoming and the food was excellent! It didn’t feel like a 3 hour ride. It was easy transport from the train to bus in Machu Picchu. Our tour guide Eliud was the best! The tea service at the Belmond hotel after was a treat and the train ride and pickup back to our hotel in Cusco went smoothly.

We loved the train, food, band and staff! We had trouble with the transition from bus to guide. Luckily a Hiram Bingham employee grabbed a guide for us and he was great!

The trip was amazing but Viator let us down!!!
We were picked up and taken to the train station after an hour drive in the bus. We boarded the train, and we’re promised by Viator through email that someone would be waiting to us at Aguas Caliente, with my name on a a card.
There was no one there waiting for us. There was no one with my name on a card.
There was no one to tell us what to do or where to go.
There was no one there to take us on the tour.
??????????????????????????????????
Luckily, the Hiram Bingham guide on the train took us under his wing, and gave us the tour of Machu Picchu, which was incredible.
When we got back from the tour in Aguas Callientes there was a man there who found me to tell me he was so sorry and that he had not even been notified that he should have been there to expect and meet us.
The Hiram Bingham guide, took care of us all the way back to town and made sure we had a ride back to our hotel!
Recommend you book the trip directly through Hiram Bingham, and skip Viator as they obviously have a communications issue!!!

Dear customer, We were checking with our operation department and they reported that they provided you with a cellphone contact for our destination coordinator in Aguas Calientes, Jose Aguilar. However, he was not programmed as your tour guide. The Hiram Bingham service always includes a guide for travelers. There was a misunderstanding from our operations team, which created confusion regarding your tour guide in Machu Picchu. We apologize for this misinformation and will ensure better communication for future travelers. Thank you for your review to improve our services.

We had a great time on train but tour guide never showed up. I will be calling to get a refund. We had to pay $100 for a tour guide that was terrible. Our family was very disappointed.

Fantastic experience from beginning to end! The food, the refreshments, the staff, the music, the scenery...I could go on and on! Everyone took great care to make sure that every passenger was having s great time! Do this!

Quite expensive, but if you have the means, it's worth every penny. It is a once in a life time experience where everything is done to make this trip memorable. Go for it.

Do NOT book this tour through Viator / Trip Advisor / Vjaes Pacifico. They are UNETHICAL. This tour is operated by the Belmond Hotel chain. It cost $855 USD for the time I went. They don’t communicate bc they aren’t the operator. BOOK THROUGH BELMOND. Otherwise, the tour itself is FIVE STARS.

Lovely experience. I hope everyone has a chance to go to Machu Pichu. It is a one in a lifetime experience, a magical place.
The train ride was fabulous, the service impecable. The entertainment was awesome. We danced, sang and met wonderful people on the train. A French couple who reside in NYC that we met on the train is now connected with us on FB.
It was an unforgettable day for us that we will always remember.

The train ride and the tour were fantastic, really recommended. However, I'm not quite sure if booking through Viator adds that much for the extra price. Communication was suboptimal. We were staying in an AirBnB so I wanted to make sure that we would be picked up and what time. It was difficult to get in touch with them, but after all everything went smooth.

It's not cheap but it was great fun. Excellent service throughout with a great departure party before getting on the Train. All meals we beautifully served plus extremely tasty plus the band on board were absolutely amazing. The energy they put into the whole trip created great entertainment. Well worth the experience.

The Hiram Bingham Train was a brilliant way to travel to and from Machu Picchu. The train is beautiful, the food and entertainment superb! It is recommended that you board the train in Ollaytantambo AVOID at all cost the bus ride required from Cusco to the station. We thought we would be boarding the train very close to Cusco where we were staying, only to find out that during the rainy season, they bus you'll the way to the next city to board the Hiram Bingham train. The ride is bumpy, uncomfortable and on a very windy road. Not so bad on the way to with a safe slow driver, but the return ride was terrible we had a wanna be Nascar driver. In all seriousness, we had a very dangerous driver, taking hair pin turns at high rates of speed, we had people getting sick in our bus because of his driving - it was risky, unacceptable and a terrible way to end an amazing day in Machu Picchu. We wish we had take the driver's name, as he should be fired by the Hiram Bingham company. We paid a lot of money to this company and we should not have been subjected to this dangerous ride. Again, I would've rated this a 5 star but for this part of the trip.

This was an unbelievable trip! The attention and service of the Hiram Bingham staff was impeccable!
From pick up at our hotel, to the service, food, entertainment, and comfort on the train, to the knowledgeable guided tour of the ruins, this was a trip we will long remember. Highly recommend to all!

We took the Hiram Bingham tour to Machu Picchu and had a wonderful time. Ghino, Justo, Erasmo, and Roberto were wonderful and made the trip very enjoyable and special. Carlos, our tour guide, made the trip interesting and educational. We were well taken care of and we would highly recommend it.

Don't regret spending the extra money on this tour. We traveled with our kids ages 6 - 12. It was definitely an experience of a lifetime.

Altogether professional, from the meeting with your representative the evening before to the return to the hotel at the end of the day, everything was more than I expected.

This was by far one of the best tours I have ever taken. The train ride was very comfortable and the food was delicious! Also the views from the train were fabulous. Machu Picchu is a must for everyone to see.

What a wonderful experience to arrive at Machu Picchu on this fabulous train. Entertainment, amazing views and fabulous food. The time flew by.

I am a wholly deaf solo traveller on Tuesday 8/9/15, I was picked up by the transfer taxi from Belmond Hotel Monasterio Cusco approx. 30 mins driving journey each way. I arrived at Poroy Railway Station, the other tourists whom I met there and I were greeted by the friendly members of Belmond Hiram Bingham staff! They escorted us to our seats in the early 1920s vintage type train.
During the train journey to Aguas Calientes for Machu Picchu, we enjoyed looking at the beautiful Peruvian countryside scenery from the trains bar carriage with the observation car where we drank various drinks and the live musical band played I cannot hear, of course before we had the brunch meal in the dining carriage.
We arrived in Aguas Calientes, we got the bus to Machu Picchu. The friendly Peruvian male guide showed the 3 other tourists and myself around Machu Picchu. I asked him if we would visit the House of Guardians with the breath-taking view of whole Machu Picchu he said that we would go there after visiting the other parts of Machu Picchu first. Unfortunately, he talked to the other 3 tourists too long than necessary while I waited in the less important part of Machu Picchu such waste of time! We did not have enough time to spend at the House of Guardians, so I had to take some photos of myself with the background of whole Machu Picchu in a hurry and I did not get a chance to walk up to the House of Guardians before we had to return to Belmond Sanctuary Hotel for the afternoon tea. I was not happy! We should have been there at the House of Guardians a bit longer its an important part of Machu Picchu than the other parts!
We returned to that train and the live musical band played again in the bar carriage for the evening drinks before we had the dinner in the dining carriage. We arrived in Poroy that evening before our transfer taxis picking us up for returning to the hotels in Cusco. It was the greatest lifetime experience!
