You need absolutely good hiking shoes or strong trainers along with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a towel, swimsuit, an extra pair of socks and a light jacket.Please keep in mind that this is not an easy walk, but a Hike through the longest Gorge of Crete!

A wonderful adventure spoiled by terrible coach driving.

Hiking Samaria Gorge is a fantastic experience but quite challenging so I do recommend getting in shape first. It’s a long way with some difficult terrain, but so worth it for the views and overall experience. For us the low point was the coach ride back to Chania through the mountains. Our driver had a very aggressive approach which included overtaking a coach on a blind bend and driving at speed so close behind two other coaches that they pulled over to let him pass. It really was a white knuckle ride and a disappointing end to an otherwise wonderful trip. The tour guide was responsible for our safety and should not have allowed such a dangerous style of driving.

Dangerous and extremely challenging.

This was an extremely challenging and dangerous trek. Slippery rocks, steep inclines and very rugged terrain was never highlighted. We saw several people with leg injuries at the conclusion of the trip. The extra bus and boat costs were also a surprise. Trek schedule allowed very little time to appreciate its beauty.

Guide did nothing. Dumped us off without any explanation, except about the pickup point, with 200 people arriving at the same time. Disappointed. It amounted to an expensive bus ticket. Don’t buy from these people.

De bus was stipt op tijd en comfortabel. Onze gids, Nikos, gaf efficiënte informatie tijdens de busrit. Ook kon je bij hem wandelstokken huren die voor ons heel goed van pas kwamen. Doordat iedereen zijn eigen tempo kon bepalen liep hij steeds als laatste om te informeren of alles oké was. Op de tocht zijn er toiletten maar stel je daar niet te veel van voor. Een grote watervoorraad meenemen hoeft niet. Je kan je fles steeds ter plekke bijvullen. Het was fijn geweest als we een beter zicht hadden op de tijdsindeling bij het aankomen op het strand tot het nemen van de boot. We hebben daar een beetje doelloos rondgelopen omdat we het exacte uur van afvaren niet kenden.
