What To Expect
Meet your skipper and fishing guide directly at La Nacional Beach Club in Mahahual to board your private charter and set out past the reef to troll for fish a few miles away from the shores of Costa Maya.
Learn from your fishing guide how to spot prime fishing spots to cast lines or nets and pull up tuna and other large ocean fish like mahi mahi, wahoo, and Spanish mackerel. Try your hand at jigging and fly fishing and see what you can pull up from the waves for about three hours, then head back to shore to relax at the beach club and feast on your catch, cooked up for you by the staff.

I have been on quite a few fishing trip but this one was one of my favorite. The guide Nick was great and his crew made it happen. There are four of us and we all were able to catch a nice barracuda in a very short amount of time. Nick made the trip and we loved it stories but maybe his Brittish accent more.

Rough seas, 4-6+ft, for most of the trip. Did not hook any fish, only seaweed. After about 3hrs, we abuptly stopped and took a very fast and rough ride back to the beach. Two young kids as guides, so it appears they aren't very knowledgeable of the fish patterns here yet. We're experienced fishermen and women and we understand sometimes you don't catch fish. But we're a little perplexed at their approach to trolling..

Very poor experience. Not as advertised. I would like some of my money back!? I was expecting as shown on website: A nice boat with outriggers good equipment, and fishing for 4 people. There were two boats next to each other when we got there. One as advertised on the website with good equipment , padded seats, two engines, and out riggers. Then there was a junker boat.. no outriggers, no padded seats, old single engine, and cheap rods. The English speaking guy said that they sub contracted that boat for us??? They actually siphoned gas from a hose halfway on the trip from a non approved water tank vs a gas tank. Rods and line were old and cheap. Very little interaction from the crew. Most importantly, they only fished 3 rods, not 4. I have been on many guided trips before, had good fishing days and bad, but It was the fact that we got stuck with the subcontractors junky boat, old equipment and only FISHED 3 rods. To rub salt into the wound, the nicer boat showed up just as we were leaving and they did catch fish. Plus the English gentleman said they had a much better chance because of their equipment

Boat was a bit smaller but did the job safely , had five bites in rough chop, landed 2 fish, had a monster on, myself and son in law had to tag team fighting till the fish broke 200 lb test 😢

Boat was over an hour late arriving for our scheduled tour. No bottled water/drinks, etc as promised in description. Not what we expected at all. You just sit while the line is drug through the water and only participate when reeling in your catch. There were no fish caught during the experience which made it pretty boring for two kids. Guide was very nice but did not speak English so communication was very difficult.

An amazing trip was had by everyone! The crew was fantastic and experienced. It was a wavy day but we still caught 2 barracuda which they cleaned and cooked at Nacional Beach Club and it was delicious! Nick accompanied us every step of the way from greeting on arrival, helping on the boat and entertaining us from beginning to end. He is quite a character and made our day! He also really enjoyed our fireball on board so if you have some to bring he would love it!

Our first impression was a small dingy of a boat. The crew was polite but not interactive with my family. It was just 3 fishing lines being dragged by the boat the bait was just skipping on top of the water. We did not catch a single fish. The ride was rough and uncomfortable.

We had a great time fishing in Costa Maya! Our guide, Nick, was friendly and knowledgeable, and we had great conversation while we fished. My 12-year-old son was able to reel in two barracuda! We had an absolute blast and would definitely do this again. The only concern we had was that our guide joined us for lunch and didn’t offer to pay for the two drinks he ordered, then asked us to tip him out of sight of the two other men in the boat. It seemed odd. Overall, great time!

The most memorable part? Nick Luke. He was a joy and an unexpected pleasure. He made the three hour trip feel like minutes. We had four hits and landed one huge barracuda. Nick arranged for the restaurant to cook our fish and stayed with us throughout the meal entertaining us with the most engaging conversation on books, music, and cinema. This is a definite stop if you’re in Costa Maya.

We were a group of 4 and we all caught fish. Nick was great as our guide and his boat crew were beyond fabulous. Felix was a boat captain. We caught 6 barracuda in total but put the last one back as we had caught plenty already. Nick had the club restaurant cooked up one for our lunch. We could not eat it all.

we actually only made it partially through the trip and I begged to be brought back to land. The ocean waves were so choppy on the smaller fishing vessell. Had I taken some motion sickness medication I would have been fine. The captain (Felix) and his first mate were amazing.
we requested a partial refuned and were granted such. This is a great company to work with for that very reason

Was just as described and expected... except Only One Fish. Messages to/from the vendor were helpful and appreciated. Directions to the National Beach Club were good and cab was easy with fare of $10 us. Cabs were also available for the return to the cruise port. "Nick" (mate) was really nice and friendly, the only english speaker of the three. They fished inside the reef due to winds and we did miss a few strikes on the baitfish, catching just One Barracuda! Think we got shorted a bit on our time and sensed that "one fish was good enough"? Next time we'll monitor time better and possibly negotiate an extra hour or so, if possible due to taking some travel time to get to fishing and more to get back leaving less than two hours to actually fish on a 3-hour trip. Nice boat covered from sun/rain, but NO BATHROOM and not big enough for more than two adults. Think we'll fish with them again next time we're in Costa Maya

We had an awesome time at the beach club and out on the water! The weather changed on us quickly but we still made the most of it and had a great time. The staff and the owner were very accommodating and it was a pleasure hanging out with Nick our guide out on the water. It was neat seeing all of the flying fish jumping across the surface!

Excellent fishing with a great crew. Nick and Ceasar kept it light and kept things exciting. We caught 3 barracuda and 1 tuna. I went with my 10 year old daughter, my friend and his 9 year old son. All had a blast.

It was terrible had to wade to the boat did not catch anything no soda or beer I would not recommend this outing to any body captain did not speak English we didn’t even see. Fish we only fished 2 and half hours we were supposed to go 4

Evan and his crew were top notch. This was a great fishing trip. Just a short cab ride to the beach club and we were fishing. The guides were great about explaining The beach club prepared a delicious meal with our catch and was able to time whole trip to accomodate our cruise.

We came to Costa Maya on Carnival Celebration and booked this on our own. Axel and his 1st mate were awesome, polite and professional. It’s called fishing not catching for a reason. They don’t guarantee you will catch fish but do their best. Luckily we hooked up 5 times and landed 2 Barracuda. My son caught the big 28 pounder! They even fileted one for us and Evan and his awesome team at the National beach club grilled it up for us. Evan was an awesome host and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Evan is quick to respond to emails and will answer all your questions. We plan on going back just to stay at his hotel. You will NOT be disappointed booking this fishing trip. I booked this because my son loves fishing and we now have a memory we will never forget. These guys delivered. Thank you so much Axel, Evan and the whole team!
