Such a good day. Easy to find the meeting point after getting off our cruise ship. We had a lovely really knowledgeable guide and a careful driver. They got us to the ruins before the crowds. The ruins were great and all our quest about them were answered thoroughly. Then on to the lake which was beautiful. Lunch at the lake was so nice and we could eat as much as we wanted. The staff there were lovely too. A perfect day and far better than the horrible expensive excursion we had the day before which was run by our cruise company. Will use you again thankyou

The instructions were clear to get to the Native Choice building. Check in was super smooth! Alandra (probably butchering her name), pretty pink bow is what I called her was super informative and accommodating.
There were only 8 of us total on the tour which made it super intimate and loved not being in a big group.
The Mayan ruins were interesting to look at.
I loved that we got a private, secluded area on the Bacalar lagoon with plenty of food and our two drinks waiting. I do wish we had more of an open area in the lagoon and got to experience more of the lagoon as that was my purpose for the trip.
We were able to stop to get pineapple on the way back which was a nice treat for $2. We were not late to get back to our ship even with the additional stop.
Our driver, guide, bartender and chefs were remarkable!
Only suggestion would be adding to the Bacalar experience.
Bring mosquito spray for Ruins!!!!!!

Ozzy & Yoshi were a great driver & Maya guide. Yoshi explained all about the Chacchoben ruin, and we enjoyed our 4 types of tacos & swim in the picturesque Balacar Lagoon. Loved the small group size.

As Royal Caribbean cruise passengers, we booked the Bacalar Lagoon & Chacchoben Mayan Ruins from Costa Maya excursion through Viator expecting a seamless experience. Instead, it turned into a frustrating game of tour operator ping-pong.
We followed the instructions exactly, walked approximately 15 minutes from the cruise port to the designated meeting location, and checked in at the kiosk listed on our reservation. That’s when the chaos started.
The staff at Native Choice immediately told us they were not affiliated with Viator and directed us to Toucan Tours. We walked over to Toucan Tours, only to be told that the booking belonged with Native Choice. Back we went. Neither company seemed to know who was responsible for the reservation.
Ironically, the neighboring tour operators who had nothing to do with our booking were far more helpful, professional, and courteous than anyone connected to this excursion.
What made the situation even worse was that Viator had absolutely no representatives on-site. There was nobody available to assist, clarify, or take ownership of the problem. After nearly 10 minutes of back-and-forth discussion and argument, we were finally told that they had never received the Viator booking at all.
Their solution? Since the main tour bus had already departed while we were being bounced between operators, they asked whether we’d like to join a shortened version of the tour instead.
So let me summarize:
• Followed all instructions exactly.
• Walked 15 minutes in the heat to the meeting point.
• Sent between two different tour companies.
• No Viator representative available anywhere.
• Booking apparently never transmitted to the local operator.
• Missed the scheduled departure through no fault of our own.
• Offered a reduced experience after paying for the full excursion.
When cruise passengers have only a few hours in port, reliability is everything. This experience demonstrated a complete breakdown in communication between Viator and its local partners. We wasted valuable vacation time trying to locate a tour that should have been organized before we ever stepped off the ship.
I would strongly recommend future travelers think twice before booking this excursion through Viator unless they enjoy scavenger hunts, confusion, and the possibility of missing the tour they paid for. Costa Maya is beautiful. Unfortunately, this booking experience was anything but.

Yoshi was very knowledgeable and friendly, easy to visit with, gave clear instructions as to expectations for the excursion, she had a fun personality that made the day very enjoyable - not to mention the locations we visited were incredible and the views were amazing! Native was organized from the beginning! Solid communication and they were prompt in getting us going. The directions to get out of the port area were clear and they were easy to find. Our guide Rosie was fantastic! She split her time between 2 vans, but made sure we had all the info and history. The ruins were wonderful and we learned a lot from the information she provided. Lunch at the lagoon was delicious! We had 4 different types of tacos and lovely drink options. Lagoon was beautiful and kayaks were in great shape as well as the rest of the property. They got us back to the shop in plenty of time.

Our tour guide Rosie and our driver Alberto were amazing! we rode in a comfortable air-conditioned van with another couple and a family, so we were a nice small group. They had cold waters for us. We were able to leave a little early since everybody showed up on time so we beat the crowds out to the ruins. The weather was perfect and the ruins were so interesting, we saw a few little animals as well our guide, Rossy was so informative and answered all of our questions and we learned so many interesting facts. We had a short ride to the lagoon, it was absolutely beautiful and the food was hot and ready to go as soon as we arrived. We had delicious drinks and the tacos were so good, we are still thinking about them! That pineapple salsa is delicious! We were able to swim and relax at the lagoon for a good amount of time before heading back to the boat. I had us there with plenty of time and they kept track of what time we needed to leave so we were truly able to relax!!! on the way back we stopped at a fruit stand and got to sample some of the fresh fruits, and some homemade breads! Everyone loved it! Very highly recommend this tour!!!!

We knew this excursion would be shorter than usual since we were only in port for seven hours. Before our cruise, we confirmed with the tour operator that we needed to be there by 8:00 AM and would return to port by 1:30 PM to board our ship on time.
We arrived early, around 7:50 AM, expecting to depart promptly at 8:00 AM for the Mayan ruins. However, we ended up sitting on the bus for nearly an hour, waiting until 8:50 AM for the operator to gather everyone. This delay significantly cut into our time at the ruins—we had just 20 minutes to snap a few pictures before being rushed back onto the bus. There was no time to explore, shop for souvenirs, or truly take in the experience, which was incredibly disappointing.
The lagoon portion of the excursion was much better; we had about an hour and 15 minutes to eat and relax, and we have no complaints about that part. However, the return trip was another issue. Despite assurances that we’d be back by 1:30 PM, we didn’t arrive until 1:50 PM, forcing us to sprint to our ship to avoid being left behind.
The only reason this isn’t a one-star review is because our tour guide and bus driver were excellent. However, for a group of eight people who collectively paid nearly $1,000, spending less than two hours on actual activities while wasting so much time on the bus was a huge letdown. The tour operator needs to improve organization, manage expectations better, and follow through on promises. Unfortunately, this experience did not live up to what was advertised.

The Myan Ruins was phenomenal. The guide was so knowledgeable and did great. The beach and lagoon was a complete disappointment. Not worth the money. I’d do the Mayan ruins alone and save the money.

My family of 4(kids 12 and 10) enjoyed this excursion. Magalie ran the whole thing and was very informative on the ride out. She's with you the whole way, even when Edder was narrating the ruin portion.
The ruins were amazing and it was great to see. It was nice having a knowledgeable guide like Edder, although I will say I think he talks at tad too much(repeats himself). He was a really nice guy, just trying to be honest about the experience.
The Lagoon was really nice, although we were told we wouldn't be able to see the full 7 colors because of recent storms. We saw 2 or 3 but it was still a good experience. What kept it from 5 stars was just that the water was really choppy and somewhat rough. We couldn't use 2 person kayaks because they were taking on too much water. I didn't feel fully comfortable with my 100lb daughter kayaking by herself, even though she was wearing a life jacket. And I couldn't take her out there because we couldn't take the 2 person kayaks.
Magalie helped serve us our drinks with the food. You get 4 tacos, choice of al pastor or chicken fajitas. Even my kids thought they were really good.
Overall a very good experience. I might do it again if we knew the water would be in a different condition but either way, we enjoyed ourselves.

We booked this tour as an excursion during the Porta Maya stop of our Western Caribbean cruise. Our guide was animated and fiercely, our driver was excellent, and the destinations were well worth the price of the excursion! We loved seeing the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins, so interesting! Bacalar Lagoon was more beautiful than I imagined! The guide took us to was a lovely private grassy area with beach chairs, a pavilion, a pier, and kayaks/life jackets. The lake was stunning and there were cute piers/beach houses half hidden in the shore of lush vegetation. When we first arrived at the area, there was a delicious hot lunch of chicken and pork tacos, piña colada‘s, and other drinks waiting for us. There was also a bathroom and changing room. Everything about the scene was so peaceful and pleasant. They allotted just the right amount of time to eat lunch, relax, and paddle up and down the shoreline for a little while before we had to head back to our cruise.

This company is not accommodating when you’re traveling with kids. Upon booking the excursion in the special references I provided a time frame of which my family and I could disembark the boat and asked to them to inform us if we can still go on the excursion or should we look into something else. I was never contact regarding the time I gave and they proceeded to book us on the excursion. When we arrive the disembarking the boat was lengthy and the port takes 20 mins to walk through, longer than any of the other ports we visited. When we finally arrived at the site outside of the port where they asked us to meet the tour was gone. They only have one tour bus and we were told there would be no reimbursement or tour we could take.

This was a great tour & not difficult to find our guides. The transportation was very nice with great AC. Our tour guides were extremely knowledgeable & enjoyed sharing the culture & history of the Mayan peoples, as well as current history of the area. From our guide on our first bus, to Eric, our guide at the ruins, the sincerity & appreciation of the Mayan culture was shared & gifted to us as a treasure. We really had a wonderful time. Our lunch/lagoon experience was equally lovely & our hosts were kind & generous. Very glad we chose this tour.

Highly recommend them. The hospitality they gave us was incredible. They was with us from start to finish. They took us around and gave us a complete tour. They still with us all the way to the end they even carried my drunk as back on the bus. They did not leave me until when it was time for us to return they took me back safe they got, a wheelchair for me and all highly highly recommend them far the best

We had a long drive to the Mayan ruins. The guide was very knowledgeable. It was interesting to see the ruins and learn the history. From there we were taken to a resort on the 7 colors lagoon. We were the only one there. That part was just ok.

The trip was disappointing as the guide assigned to us told us to meet him at a spot in the ruins and then proceeded to go to another location and complete the session without 4 of our group members
The Bacalar Lagoon section was not clear that swimming and or canoeing was available and we did not come prepared for that

Lorenzo had a lot of knowledge and was very personable. We really felt like his grasp of the Mayans was strong and gave us a good picture of what we saw and what was going on at the site. reputabile company , Ship did not make port and wasnt till 8 hours before docking before we got notice. They completely reefunded all moneys because it was not our fault. will book with them next time and hopefully our ship can make port.

Our driver and guide were excellent and the tour of the ruins and lagoon were great. Would definitely book again. We had a little difficulty finding the starting point but it all worked out.

Our guide, Diego, was excellent with thorough knowledge of Maya history. Enjoyed every minute of the tour, it was on time, a very comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. The lunch taken at Bacalar was delicious, drinks included. This tour was worth every penny and more. Highly recommend it.

Unfortunately they left us. This was to be the trip for my son who graduated from high school and will be studying environmental science. The instructions were not clear. As soon as we were allowed off the boat we made our way to the designated location. We had to ask several times where to go. When we finally figured it out they had left us. The folks at Costa Maya were so helpful and let us use their phone to call the person. She would not come and get us and would not refund our $700 plus dollars. There were 6 of us in our group. We ended up paying for another group on the spot. We had plenty of time to see the Mayan ruins and go to the beach. There was no reason they could not have come to get us. Toucan Tours was so kind and worked with us. The price was far better. I would not advise this company

We also waited for more than 15 minutes at the designated meeting location. Unfortunately, due to our commitment to respecting the time of all our guests and ensuring a hassle-free experience for everyone, we had to depart. Cruise schedules are tight, and timely departures are necessary to make the most of the available time in port for all guests.
We're glad to hear that you were able to enjoy your time in Costa Maya and explore the Mayan ruins and beach with another company. We truly appreciate your understanding of the situation. While we're unable to offer a refund under these circumstances, we sincerely hope that you would consider joining us again in the future. We are constantly working to improve our services and ensure a positive experience for all our guests.

Wow! Great experience with this tour! The actual name of the tour company is Native Choice. When we left the port, the locals were very friendly and helpful in getting us to the meeting place. The guides were excellent. We had Eddard and Leandro was our driver. The van was very nice and air conditioned. They were so accommodating throughout the trip. The lunch was excellent! Just a wonderful experience overall. 10/10 would recommend!
