Great experience at Chacchoben! The ruins were beautiful, but the beach time was a little short. Carlos was great—friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. Overall, a wonderful trip!

The meeting point was a short walk from the cruise port. Google maps guided us there, no problems! We waited a bit for a van and then we were off. Reggie was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the Mayan history and was very engaging. When we arrived to Chacchoben, the tour remained very engaging and there was a lot to see. Would definitely recommend the tour and Reggie as a guide!

Getting Mayan in Mahahual, Puerta Costa Maya
We went to Costa Maya to see the undersold Mayan Chacchoben ruins, which are surreal and not to be missed, and Elliot, the Mayan with the Scottish name!, did not disappoint! The Bacalar lake experience offered several varieties of delicious tacos and the beautiful, but rocky, lake itself was a refreshing swim after the epic morning!

  • Since the ruins are mostly unexcavated, visitors should wear sneakers or hiking boots, not flip-flops.

  • Mosquitos may be abundant, especially during rainy season, so remember to bring insect repellent.

  • Keep your eyes open for deer, peccaries (piglike animals), armadillos, gray foxes, and spider and howler monkeys, which inhabit the surrounding jungle.
