Great experience touring the beautiful fauna and flora of the Colombia. It was so great to get away from the hustle and bustle of crazy city into the nature. Olinto was a great tourguide with a natural curiosity and knowledge of the secrets that Colombian treasures. We definitively recomend this hike for someone who loves nature!

This hike is absolutely incredible, led by a guide who is clearly passionate about the area and wildlife within the Tropical Dry Forest. He is extremely attentive and friendly. The trail itself is just over 4 miles roundtrip and while there is a steeper section, most of it is flat and easy to navigate. The exotic flora and fauna are abundant and this is one of the only areas near Cartagena to see howler monkeys and cotton-top tamarins in the wild!

I highly recommend this experience. Oli was our guide during a very memorable hike in the Colombian dry forest. During the trek we saw several groups of cotton-top tamarins and red howler monkeys, along with other interesting birds and smaller critters. Howler vocalizations often filled the forest, making the experience even more thrilling.
The provided breakfast and lunch were very good, and the breaks gave us a chance to learn about Colombia and get to know one another.
I really appreciated Oli's communication leading up to the hike and his punctuality, but especially his friendly demeanor and passion for his country's flora and fauna. I've been fortunate to book similar experiences around the world, but our day with Oli stands out. Thank you!

Our tour guide was Olinto, and he was very friendly, spoke fluent English, and very knowledgeable about the plant life and animal life of the tropical dry forest.
We had a great trip and were able to spot some red howler monkeys, as well as several groups of cotton-top tamarins, which was a really cool experience. We learned a lot about the wild life and enjoyed the experience.

If you enjoy the outdoors and are coming down to Cartagena this hike is a must! Olinto picked us up right in front of our Airbnb. We were the only ones he had that day, he did not cancel, and was perfectly on time. We had an amazing breakfast, then went to the hike. It was a great 4 mile hike where we saw many interesting animals including some monkeys. On the way home we stopped by the same place as breakfast and had an amazing lunch. Olinto truly cares and it shows! He is worth the trip alone but the hike was awesome.

Olinto was a wonderful guide and taught us a great deal about the tropical dry forest on our excursion. He is very passionate about what he does and it shows! We saw a sloth, and different species of monkeys and birds, as well as countless plants and trees. We greatly enjoyed the breakfast and lunch that were included. We were asking about street food and places to eat in Cartagena and Olinto sent us a great list after the tour. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing experience on this hike! Olinto was so prepared and sent us lots of information on what to expect before. On our hike we got to see howler monkeys, cotton-top tamarins, and capuchins! It was amazing. Olinto was so knowledgeable about the ecosystem and biodiversity of the forest. The breakfast and lunch were also amazing! We would highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to see more of Colombia and get out of the city.

Olinto was an amazing and personable guide. The tour was very well organized and beginner friendly. We enjoyed Olinto’s explanations of interesting and relevant natural/animal facts. Both included meals were delicious and gave us a taste of authentic Colombian cuisine. He is the only one offering a tour like this on any platform and we would highly recommend booking!

Excellent experience! Olinto was a great guide and made the trip very easy for us. We saw lots of monkeys to top it off!

Our guide Olinto was INCREDIBLE you can tell he absolutely loves what he does and cares about the environment around him. We were fed a delicious breakfast before and lunch after the hike and it was just the perfect day. If you love nature and experiencing the beauty the dry forest of Cartagena offers, this is absolutely for you!
Joseph_M, Apr 2024
Could not ask for a better guide! Olinto was fantastic and really made it a great experience. This is a must do for anyone who loves wildlife! We saw over 40 monkeys of 3 different species as well as countless butterflies, birds, and a 🐍 Food was great too!

Immediately after booking this tour, I received a message from our tour guide, Oli, letting us know about the hike, what to expect, what to bring, etc. This being our first trip to Cartagena, it was nice to be reassured about everything before it started.
The day of the tour started with Oli picking us up right outside the door of our hotel in Getsemaní. Oli was very friendly and informative. You can tell he really enjoys doing this. His English was also quite good, which set us at ease.
We drove about an hour to the hiking trail, stopping for breakfast nearby. Once we arrived at the trail, we were joined by two locals who helped guide us on the trail and watching for wildlife. The hike itself was relatively flat, but with heat and humidity to deal with, I would not have wanted it to be much more challenging.
There were plenty of sights on the hike. We saw three different types of monkeys, several birds, plus all of the biodiversity that the tropical dry forest has to offer.
At the end of the hike, we sat under a large tree and were refreshed with a plate of fresh mango. After going back on the road, we stopped at the same spot we ate breakfast and had a traditional lunch. From there it was back to Cartagena.
We very much enjoyed the hike and I would definitely recommend it or any other experiences that Oli and Taroa Adventures have to offer

Amazing hike! Saw some monkeys, and cool birds and plants, and our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about the forest. Highly recommended, but not for those who can’t stand the heat!
Cinapri_T, Mar 2024
Wonderful tour from start to finish. Despite the heat it was fantastic. Olinto and his team went at a great pace and we got lucky with all the sightings of animals. The dry forest is a unique and engaging opportunity to learn about nature with Olinto.

Our guides were experienced and took care of the details. They seem to really love the great outdoors and wanted to share the beauty with us. Taking time to explain and enjoy the wild! Thank you…. A must do!!!

This hike was amazing and our tour guide was so nice and formative. The people on the farm were also great. We had a really amazing time love it and them

Olinto was great. It was good to get out of the city and see the countryside on the way to the dry rainforest. Very eye-opening. Olinto loves what he does and it is apparent as he describes the workings of the dry rainforest and its contribution to the natural cycle. We did get to see and hear howling monkeys too.
Alexis_G, Jan 2024
This tour is a well organized day. We saw cotton top tamrins and howler monkeys multiple times. Learned about the plant life and medicinal properties , smelled natural herbs, saw lot of different butterflies and bugs. The lunch was beyond amazing!

What a great day! We hiked through a river, climbed a mountain, had a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide! Olínto, our guide and his land guide Alejandro made the hike easy for us novice hikers. Felt safe the entire time. So grateful Olinto provided walking sticks and high rain boots, the mud could get deep at times, helped when crossing the river too. Olinto provided breakfast and lunch served at a local restaurant, very authentic and tasty.
My husband and I truly had a fun day!
Luca_T, Aug 2023
Wonderful experience in the forest! We saw monkeys, a lot of type of insects and small animals. Many type of trees and a real amazing eco-system.
The guide was really professional
I strongly recommended this experience if you like the nature.

We had a great experience on this hike. Breakfast was appreciated with such an early start. Olinto is very passionate about what he does and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of nature with us. He was also very attentive to our needs throughout the trip. We were lucky to see two kinds of monkeys along our hike. The hike itself was mostly easy and flat except for a slightly steep rocky part near the end. After the hike we had a delicious snack before heading back to lunch and then our hotel. It was a great way to spend the day and get into nature which we couldn't have done on our own.
Danette_W, Jul 2023
A lovely morning to get out of the hustle of Cartagena and experience and learn about Colombia’s forests. Olinto is passionate about this area and his enthusiasm was contagious. We learned about the endangered Cotton-Top Tamarins and didn’t think we’d see any as there are only 7000 left but we saw 2 groups and 1 group of Howler Monkeys. It is a worthwhile experience!!
John_M, Apr 2023
We had such a great time and our guide was awesome. We saw several different kinds of monkeys and birds. He pointed out things that we would’ve easily missed. He gave us a new appreciation for everything in the forest and took the time to awaken our senses to the things around us. The food provided was very good too. A must see for nature lovers.
David_Z, Mar 2023
Outstanding! Olinto has great communication and was on time picking us up. The hike exceeded expectation allowing us to learn about not only the macro elements in the forest, but also all the small stuff. Pace was intentionally slow so not to miss anything. Meals and transportation spot on. All of this is only an hour from Cartagena and needs to be on your bucket list.
Kris, Mar 2023
Two friends and I went with Olinto to this dry tropical forest and it was wonderful! Olinto was an excellent guide-he was so very passionate about teaching people about the forest! He pointed out many plants, insects and animals along the way. We saw some oropenula birds and one nest, many red howler monkeys, a baby sloth, never-ending butterflies, a toucan and about 6 cotton topped tamarinds! It was definitely a trip to remember.
Olinto was an excellent guide and we were so happy to meet Marina who joined us that day! They took very good care of us and did everything they could to make it a wonderful experieince (which it was!)! There was a part of the hike where it was pretty steep and rocky and a bit treacherous for those with poor balance but it was so worth the effort. It was great and I hope to go on another tour with them while I'm here!

A great opportunity to see a unique ecosystem led by a friendly, knowledgeable host with the assistance of an enthusiastic and helpful local family.
Kelly_M, Jan 2023
A must book, and doable for just about anyone! We had so much fun getting out of the city for the day. We got lucky and saw multiple types of monkeys, a sloth, many birds, butterflies, spiders, and beetles. The scenery was beautiful and all of the food delicious. Olinto is very kind, organized, and knowledgeable about the experience. You will have a great day with him!
Gena_S, Dec 2022
The hike was amazing. We learned about the eco system of the forest. We saw the tiniest creatures. Prior to this hike, I did not understand what all is involved in an eco system.
Seeing the monkeys was amazing.
The hike itself is great physical activity. It is great exercise.
Heather_N, Jul 2022
This was quite the adventure! We were picked up early morning and provided an egg arepa for breakfast on the road. The trail entrance to begin the hike was about an hour's drive from Cartagena. Once there, we were provided rubber boots which were definitely needed and appreciated since this is the rainy season. We sloshed through thick mud and water, hiked through well defined wooded trails, climbed some rocky hills, and crossed over a stream. There was a lot of wildlife to be seen, from tiny insects (soo many colorful butterflies) to cotton top tamarins and howler monkeys. We were also able to spend some time with a local family that lives on the property. They gave us coconut water and mangos to refuel for the hike back to the truck (it was basically a loop). We stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant on the way back to the city. This was a great way to get back to nature and do something "different." And the opportunity to see wild monkeys was pretty cool!
Brecia_H, Jul 2022
The forest inside the National park was absolutely beautiful! Other than Olinto and the two local guides, we didn’t see any other hikers for the whole day. Olinto was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We saw lots of wildlife…insects, monkeys, plants, lizards, and even an adorable turtle! He was nice enough to take several pictures of my family. He provided a delicious and filling breakfast and lunch. If you are wondering if you should take the hike, do it!
