Itinerary
Start with a hotel pickup, and travel by air-conditioned minivan to the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo. On route, hear an informed introduction to the museum from your private, qualified Egyptologist guide. If there’s anything you want to see more or less of, let your guide know. Your tour itinerary can be tailored to your preference.
Home to more than 165,000 Egyptian artifacts, the museum’s main treasures lie in its Tutankhamun collection, an array of antiquities from the reign of the boy pharaoh, including his gold death mask and six gilded coffins. The museum also houses near-countless other treasures including everyday objects, tombs, jewelry and mummies from the prehistoric Egyptian period through to the Roman era.
Knowing where to start can be daunting, so let your guide introduce you to the highlights. View the Tutankhamun exhibits, including his spectacular, solid gold death mask; chariot and other funerary riches. And admire other prize exhibits, such as pharaonic sarcophagi and everyday objects, Roman-era funerary paintings and more.
If you wish, visit the Royal Mummies Room (additional cost), another museum showpiece. Enter this climate-controlled room to view the mummies of Egyptian rulers such as Ramses II, builder of Luxor’s Karnak Temple.
After introducing you to the main attractions, your guide will give you free time to explore further, at your leisure.
If you wish, following your time at the museum, take the opportunity to visit a Papyrus Institute to learn about this ancient form of writing and art, painted onto papyrus canvases. Perhaps buy some papyrus scenes as souvenirs (own expense), before your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.

We arrived into town via plane and the coordinator helped schedule a time that worked with our arrival time! Communication was wonderful! The guide was early and friendly...very knowledgeable! It was a great experience!

I love the old museum. The tour was well conducted. Then on to the museum of civilisation. This is a beautiful building. And well worth the visit .The mummy museum is interesting to see and well presented. Cairo traffic is boring but eventually moves

Our guide was incredible and the museum is amazing!
William R, May 2018
Poor service by the guide assigned to us. Our guide was not interesting on showing us anything. He was on such a rush and we fell like he made us run thru the museum. We spend less than 2 hrs inside the museum.

We had a good time on this tour. Mohammed was very knowledgeable about the artifacts in the meusem.

The Egyptian Museum is so full of antiquities that navigating it alone would deprive you of the full experience. In many instances, the signs are very small, not fully informative and often not accessible due to other patrons. Having a guide to fully explain the significance of each piece was critical to our full appreciation and enjoyment of the museum. Highly recommend.

Our guide, Fouad, made sense of a magnificent but disorganized collection of thousands of years of history. I'm sure we would have enjoyed the museum's thousands of artifacts anyway but Fouad added the historical context and led us to some of the lesser known items. A guide for this museum is a must-have. Fouad was fluent in english with very little accent so very easy to understand. He also provided translations of several of the hieroglyphics to make understanding the artfacts much easier.

Incredible guide and fantastic service from South Sinai as always. Would never consider using a different agent, everyone we have dealt with there has become a friend. What more could you take home from a holiday.

If you are lucky enough t have Amged as your guide and Naser as your driver, you will have a superb, professional, tailored experience. I cant say enough good things about either of them. My traveling companion uses a wheelchair and every part of the tour was carefully thought out and made accessible.

The guide was friendly but was hurrying things. Although the tour was for 3 hours, the guide finished it in 1.5 hours excluding travel which was about 15 min

Gaurang P, Feb 2017
Our guide Tariq was full of knowledge, patient and an excellent guide.

Punctual pick-up. Knowledgeable guide. Felt a bit too rushed through the museum which is understandable as limited time for too many great exhibits. Yet we learned later that we missed a few important ones. Very few people in the Tutenchamun exhibit room which was great.

The tour is amazing for those looking to see the past and what Egypt has to offer. The tour guide for this experience was Ahmed and I can only express gratitude for enlightenment onto the Egyptian History. An Amazing experience that can only be attained when the person giving you the tour is dedicated and committed to his work, An excellent experience overall!!!

Very interesting tour with a very informative guide Kaled.
Delay with guide getting to the museum but Cairo traffic can be a nightmare. I would give 5 stars but for the expected tipping
LeithPatrick_K, Sep 2016
Wonderful. Parts of the museum do not allow guides but we were briefed before we went into those areas and managed to cover the museum in about a half day. Our guide knows his stuff and explained it in a way that was enjoyable and not overwhelming. Having a guide that is fluent in English was a huge advantage. Highly recommend Fouad and South Sanai Tours, a local agent for Viator.

This was an awesome guide and driver. The tour was really good and I greatly appreciated all the guide's help. Really a good experience.
Heath P, Feb 2016
My experience with this tour was excellent. I was picked up at my hotel on time and taken to the Cairo Museum. My guide was knowledgable and professional and allowed time to look through the museum at my own pace. I would definitely recommend this tour.

It was really interesting, lovely guide, enjoyable time Thanks
Maria H, Aug 2015
Tour was nice our guide was knowledgable ,however at only two hours i thought it was very short given how much there is to see
Lauline B, Mar 2015
Our Egyptologist guide Ahmed, was great! We are so glad he was with us explaining the history and showing us artifacts that we would have overlooked.
Arturo A, Mar 2015
outstanding. Patient and flexible in showing us only the highlights of more than 200,000 pieces.
rmezzara, Jan 2015
Excellent tour. The museum was not crowded the day of our tour and Fouod was again very knowledgeable about Egyptian history.
Carol Z, Oct 2014
Tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. He was friendly, well-informed, spoke very well. He was flexible and accommodated special needs of a baby.
Christopher J, Sep 2014
Really informative tour around the main exhibits of the Egyptian Museum, with the obvious highlight being the treasures of King Tut. Would have liked to have spent more free time to look round as sometimes it felt a bit rushed. All in all though, well worth a visit
Gregory J, Jun 2014
A good experience with some security concerns for tourists. After our guide negotiated our entry into the museum we had to pass many tanks, soldiers and police. My daughter who is a pretty blonde girl who dress appropriately for Egypt was leered at by all security personnel which made her very uncomfortable. Once inside the Museum we had the place virtually to ourselves so much so that we were the only two in the Tutankhamen mask room. The guide was very knowledgeable to the extent we had to ask for free time to take things in by ourselves. You must pay extra for the Mummy rooms. I don't know if its really worth the money as we found it a bit creepy.
Theresa M, Jun 2013
Guide was great. Professional, punctual, and had great knowledge about Egyptian history.
Frank H, May 2013
One of the best museums I have ever scene with a one of the best guides. A must!! I would have done this a few times if I had more time there. My Egyptoligist(Nader) was full of passion for history!
Lucy G, May 2013
Interesting artefacts inside the museum. The guide (Aladin) was funny but remain focused on the purpose (explanation)
