We were lucky enough to visit Alberobello and Matera with Vito as our guide. On that day, it was just the two of us (my partner and me), which made the experience even more personal and special.
Vito is exceptionally knowledgeable about history, incredibly kind, and has a wonderful sense of humor. He shared his knowledge in such an engaging and enjoyable way that we learned so much while having a fantastic time.
There is no better way to discover two new cities than through their history and the stories of such a knowledgeable guide. We highly recommend Vito!

This tour was one of the most scenic (as far as architecture) and interesting that I've ever taken. Our guide Vitor was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. His anthropological and historical narrations were amazing. I learned so much! There is a lot of uphill. It may be difficult for people who have trouble walking.

We had an amazing tour with Vito, even though the weather was rainy. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the towns we visited but also about Mediterranean culture, local dialects, the etymology of some words, music... Our trip from Bari to Matera and Alberobello was truly unforgettable, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Vito. From the very beginning, he made us feel completely at ease with his warm, friendly personality and genuine enthusiasm.
Vito’s knowledge of the region was incredible—he brought each place to life with fascinating stories, historical insights, and little details you’d never discover on your own. Whether we were wandering through the ancient streets of Matera or admiring the unique trulli houses in Alberobello, his passion made the experience so much richer.
What really stood out, though, was how natural and relaxed everything felt. It didn’t feel like a typical tour at all—it was more like spending the day exploring with an old friend who just happens to know everything about the area. He was attentive, engaging, and always happy to answer questions or tailor the experience to our interests.
I honestly couldn’t recommend this tour more highly. If you’re planning a visit to this part of Italy, having someone like Vito guide you makes all the difference.

Vito was warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. He customized the experience to our pace and interests, making us feel completely comfortable throughout the day. We learned so much, saw so many beautiful places, and enjoyed every moment.

Vito is knowledgeable but one of my least favorite tour guides from this trip. I didn’t like the conversation outside of the historical information. Plus he was selectively deaf. Trying to communicate with a dead tour guide - who is only deaf when he didn’t want to answer your questions was frustrating. Also - America does it all wrong vs Italy. And he was obsessed with UNESCO. Just not a fan. It was also our most expensive excursion - but to me provided the least in value. So too expensive for what you get. We loved the two sites - but for as long as it was and as expensive as it was it should have included at least a little food. All of our other less expensive and just as long or shorter excursions included lunch. I would look for a different tour.

Thoroughly enjoyable visit to Matera and Alborobello . Our tour guide picked us up close to our airbnb and spoke knowledgably about the two historic areas. It was well worth the time and money

Vito was our tour guide. There was a misunderstanding with pick up. The walk was too far to meet him for two elderly people with mobility issues. I alerted Vito before arriving so I was surprised at the distance to meet him. We had a private tour and we have since met fellow passengers who were met by their Viator guide right at the terminal and dropped off right in front. Vito told us that was not possible yet we saw first hand that their Viator guide did just that. . Vito was as accommodating as he could be I think but seemed a little taken aback by the slow walking and limited ability to walk. This tour clearly was too much for the two sisters. He gave us what history he could in Matera when we were 4 but it was abbreviated. On to Alberobello which was farther than we expected and Vito felt rushed for time. No time for lunch… again an abbreviated tour. We arrived back at the ship over an hour earlier than we expected and then a long walk back to the terminal. I think Vito was annoyed although we feel he did what he could do within the limitations we had. We would definitely go back to both locations when we could spend more time. But after paying over $1000 for this tour, and did not stop for even a snack, shortened tour… and rushed back to port with a long walk in…it was a bit disappointing. Again, I think Vito tried but maybe he was frustrated with us. However I did alert everyone involved when I made this reservation that there were mobility issues.

Tour director provided very little details and background to the places visited. We stopped at shops and places where he knew the owners. Gave little history or background, especially in Matera. Passed one church and asked about it. He just said it's not important because it's only a hundred years or so old. So no description or history. We heard other travel guides describing many more details which he omitted

Loved seeing the towns and learning history. Was surprised how far away the towns were from each other and from the port- spent most of the day riding in the car- not enough time in the towns- would have preferred to perhaps just do one or the other.

I noticed that any negative review about this tour and Vito are answered with the remark, "who are you or you never took this tour. The fact is ,he drove like a lunatic, we feared for our lives, little or inaccurate information was given. We spent all day with no time to eat, in a hot rented van. We did learn all about Vito's family and sadly we had to take another tour with him the next day because the 24hr. cancellation window was past and it was large amount of money to take a loss and no other tour was available. I am not sure how he can have so many positive reviews, something is not right.

Vito, a charming, opera singing, anthropologist local, was my tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and had several people who were not on our tour listening to the important history of the area of Matera & Alberobello. I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you, VIto!

Giampaolo Our guide was very knowledgeable about not only Matera and Alborabello and the Puglia surrounds. He gave us much information about the tour sites and even included an additional visit to a very old church nearby. We also had plenty of time to explore and eat lunch. We were particularly amazed with our visit to Matera.

I recently did a tour to Alberobello and Matera from Bari with Vito, and I couldn't have asked for a better guide! I was lucky to be the only one on the tour, and it was such a personal and insightful experience. Vito picked me up on time from my accommodation in Bari, and right from the start, he was incredibly friendly, funny, and knowledgeable.
He shared so much interesting information about both UNESCO sites and answered every question I had. We even had a lovely lunch together, and the entire time I felt safe and comfortable. Vito took his time, and it never felt rushed. If you're looking for a guide who knows the area inside out and can offer a great mix of history and personal touch, I highly recommend Vito!
