The Original street food walking tour with Iris was absolutely brilliant! She was so knowledgeable, patient and made the tour truly memorable . It was really interesting to learn about Bari and its history and visiting the important sites. The food was absolutely to die for and the portions massive. Definitely one of the highlights of our holiday. Thank you Iris!

Itinerary

Set off on a stroll around the narrow streets of the Bari Old Town. Stop for a look at the pilgrimage church of the Basilica of St. Nicholas. Dedicated to the saint whose legend became Santa Claus, the church houses his holy remains in an ornate crypt. See the Cathedral of St. Sabinus, and admire the nearby 12th-century Swabian Castle.

Continue through the Old Town to scout out the best eateries with your guide. Stop at a pastry bakery to sample focaccia barese. Learn about cheese and salami at a delicatessen; sip wine as you hear about the region’s wine-making heritage; and discover the secrets of rich, homemade ice cream as you eat one, of course.

Your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.

Our guide Barbara was terrific!!!!! She was knowledgeable about Old Town, the Bari history and culture and was delightful. The food was truly a sample of the area cuisine and enough to fill you. Ala in all a great experience

Food a disappointment!

The tour stated four stops for food tasting and we only had one stop and I'm not sure if you can even call it a stop. We stood outdoors and were given a piece of focaccia bread and a napkin. This is by far very different than any other food tour I have done in many other countries. Typically you make stops sit down in a restaurant here a little bit of information about the restaurant taste food at the restaurant sometimes have a beverage as well. The only food stop we had as I mentioned above was one and we had to stand up outside. This was very disappointing and did not at all match the description of the tour. On a positive note the guide was good and funny.

Tour guide Vincenzo was great but it is not food tour. Most tour focused on old city not the street food. I have been on few food tours and this was the worse.

Seeing Bari again after many years was a true pleasure. It almost seems new in a way but preserving the very old. Other food and walking tours have been more enjoyable, though, with food and wine at almost every stop and sitting in comfortable areas. The ones I have participated in were mostly in Rome. I was a little disappointed more history was not discussed and one little plastic cup of wine is not what I have seen in my other tours.

Tour guide Carlotte gave very sparse information about the city, but the real issue is the SLOP served in this "food" tour. A "fast-food" panzerotto (calzone) which one could order from Dominoes. A horrific FRIED STALE BURNED PASTA. Some forgettable deli and cheese and then some gelato which could be had anywhere in Italy. Unfortunately there is a lazy tendency to treat tourists in this way, instead... sample local quality tastings with information about the cousine and area. That's not asking too much. Need to do better.

The spaghetti you described as "burned" is actually a beloved traditional dish called Spaghetti all’Assassina, known for its crispy texture and spicy flavor, a favorite among many guests. You can even find the recipe yourself to better understand this local specialty. As for the panzerotto, it is a fried calzone filled with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, a typical treat found in many bakeries, restaurants, and delis across Bari. It's often the first type of food one encounters when arriving here. We certainly have no intention of providing our cherished guests with subpar experiences or low-quality food. We are truly sorry to hear that you felt the information provided during the tour was sparse. The food was classic and very good. However, the information provided by the guide and of the presentation of the food could have been better. The guide gave only short explanations of the areas we passed by and it was difficult to understand her English. Eating meats and cheeses while standing outside on a street corner was difficult to enjoy. Lastly, while the unexpected inclusion of a street performer was good, it was very awkward when he asked us for a coin that we did not have with us. It felt out of place to do this with the food tour. We give this a 4 for the food and a 3 for the presentations.

I was disappointed when advised the days food tour was cancelled but so happy Valeria and her team found a solution for me to join the foodie cycle tour. Their pocket rocket tour guide Alessia cycled me around in a rickshaw, she was amazing. Her knowledge of Bari’s history and passion for her town was impressive. We visited 2 famous foodie places ate another at a restaurant and finished with gelato. We even had a street performer entertain us who got all involved such fun. Everything was delicious and we visited the top sights Nonna pasta street, the duomo, castle, cycled through the gorgeous streets etc. If you only have a short time I suggest you do this comprehensive tour of Bari’s old town I loved it. Thank you velos tours.

Carlotta and Anna were great guides but they took me on a rickshaw tour which isn’t what I signed up for. They were knowledgeable and energetic which was great but my problem is with the company they work for. I signed up for the walking food tour and received a call that morning stating they didn’t have enough people to conduct the tour; it was just me and they needed a minimum of two. When I arrived at the office there were two young ladies who were also scheduled for the walking food tour and being sent on a different tour. Questionable integrity.

A really good tour to do of Bari. Got to walk around the Old Town of Bari with our amazing guide Teresa. Gave us a lot of info about the Old Town itself, but the tour took us to some really nice places to have some food. All the food we had was amazing.

After having done a food tour in another city the nite before this one could not compare. The tour guide was fabulous and the history was great but don't call it a food tour as it was maybe a snack tour. I do love a walking tour and that aspect was great.

This was more than a street walking tour. It was a historic walking tour of the city, then a sampling of the food. The food was delicious and you were not hungry when it was finished. We learned so much about the city, which was really fun.
