Great historical walking tour with Alethea. Everyone in our small group ofc8 gained some tremendous insights regarding the Jewish population in Rome through the ages. The tour through Trastevere was nice too, but the jewishvhistoryvtour could've been a stand alone tour. Thank you for the experiences!

Ben, our guide, was a deep well of history and a great story teller. We learned so much on this tour. The Jewish ghetto is rich with history, and on this walking tour, Ben gave us information that honored the history but wasn’t dull and dry. He was witty and handled every question people had with skill.

Thank you Ann! We're glad you all enjoyed the tour with Alethea, and discovered the fascinating history of the Jewish community of Rome

Great tour

Karen_F, Mar 2026
Our tour guide was amazing!! Our only issue was that the your left without us. The tour company never added us to our guide’s list. Although we arrived on time the others had arrived early and she didn’t know to wait for us. We caught up to them and figured out where they were.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you Karen! I apologise for the issue with the list - somehow we did not get any email informing us of your booking, though the booking did appear in our system when checking. We're glad you still enjoyed the tour with Arielle though.

Take this tour if you...

Take this tour if you want to learn about the long Jewish history in Rome. An excellent tour that informs and connects you to difficult moments in Jewish-Roman history.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you Emma! Rome's Jewish history is fascinating, often tragic, and fully entwined with the rest of the city's history, so we're glad you were able to discover some of it with us

Covers a lot of ground for a wonderful overview of two areas in Roma -the Jewish Square and Trastevere. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We did this tour and then circled back around to check out the synagogue ourselves since this tour does not go inside. Highly recommend!

Fantastic tour!

We enjoyed this tour! Our guide, Alethea, was extremely knowledgeable about each neighborhood and street we walked through. Without her expertise, we would have missed the significance behind several signs and shops in the Jewish Ghetto. Highly recommend! Go back to “bakery” after the tour for the ricotta and cherry pie!

A memorable introduction

Aine_W, Jan 2025
Ben is a friendly, respectful guide with a great sense of humour and a clear love of Roman history and culture. It was such a joy learning so much about the city's intimate and complicated relationship with its Jewish community as well as some eye-opening insights about a few key historical figures who have played a role in its story - popes, emperors, and dictators, etc. A memorable introduction to a rare jewel of the eternal city. Thank you again!

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Dear traveller, Thank you so much for your kind words! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Ben and that his passion for Roman history and culture made the experience memorable for you. The Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere are indeed fascinating areas with a rich and complex history, and it’s wonderful to know that you found the insights into the city's past both engaging and eye-opening. Susan_W, Nov 2024
Alicia was charming, informative and friendly. The tour was interesting and sensitive to the Jewish people. Travestere was also fun - enjoyed exploring the alleyways. Good advice on where to eat and buy gelato!

Best Neighbourhood Tours of Rome

Mariah_H, Nov 2024
This was a really engaging and informative tour. Ben was highly knowledgeable and personable. I really enjoyed touring both neighbourhoods. It’s very well worthwhile.

Outstanding

Mark_L, Nov 2024
This was a terrific tour. We were lucky to have alethea to ourselves and she gave us a informative and fascinating historical tour of the Jewish ghetto both on both sides of the river. She told fascinating stories about the history of the Jewish people in Rome from Roman times all the way up to almost present day. We visited historical sites including the Magnificent Temple located just outside the Jewish quarter. I would absolutely recommend this tour and our guide.

The Jewish ghetto tour

Barbara_C, Oct 2024
Ben, our guide, knew all the ins and outs of the ghetto and Trastevere. He was amazingly knowledgeable, told us really interesting facts, stopped to show us little nooks and crannies, and was all around terrific. It was an A+ tour.
