Hobbiton Movie Set Experience with Lunch

The hobbiton movie set was an amazing experience. The food was great, and the ale was delicious. The bus ride out was about 2.5 hours, one way, from Auckland; quite a ways out, but our driver Todd, who is New Zealand’s number one driver, made the journey feel much shorter. I have two more trips scheduled with Viator later this week, and hopefully Todd will be the driver.

This tour was a great way to see things outside of Auckland CBD. We didn’t realize it when booking but this is a private tour so it was just us and the guide. Sean was a great guide. His pre-made AI audio was funny and he added more details to the info provided by AI. He is also well regarded at the locations where he stops. We were happy we added this to our short time in Auckland.

It is a long day, but...

It is a long day, but well worth it. Both the Caves and Hobitton are tour only. This trip takes care of the planning, you just have to show up and enjoy the ride! Our Bus driver, Todd was great! Good stories and quite amusing. Lunch is basic, but satisfactory. You can bring additional snacks/drinks on the bus or purchase them at either stop. Plan for weather variations: it is chilly in the caves but can be hot, if sunny, at Hobitton ( they do have umbrellas for sun/rain available for guest use). It is not a great deal of walking, but good walking shoes are recommended

The tour was very interesting. We were a small group of different nationalities. The boat trip in the Glowworm Cave is an absolute highlight. Spotting a kiwi in the kiwi house put a smile on all of our faces. The nature is enchanting. This excursion is highly recommended. Our tour guide had a lot of information for us.

Highly recommend!!

I highly recommend this tour of the North island!! Our guide Jason was friendly, knowledgeable, and quite witty which made the trip even better! The views are breathtaking and each stop is unique and adventurous. We had coffee and meat pies, walked through the geothermal park (a major highlight) and even learned about the Maōri culture at Te Puia. This tour accommodates everything and is well worth the cost!!

A fantastic day

Both visits exceeded my expectations. Arriving at the Hobbiton set and seeing large buses full of people leaving, I was shocked at the mere idea of touring the whole set on a bus. Instead, they took us to the starting point and let us see the whole set in complete tranquility; it was truly pleasant. The tour in the caves was very unique; this boat ride in the dark looking at all these little creatures that illuminated everything, it felt like being under the starry sky in the desert. And what about Liam, our guide? Although I unfortunately do not speak English, I can state that he is a very professional person and that not only does he have in-depth knowledge of the places, but it is clear that he also has a passion for his work, and this involves the whole group, which is a fundamental factor for the success of an organized group trip. As I had already mentioned, I unfortunately do not speak English; for this reason, I allow myself to suggest that the agency also make small brochures containing the most relevant information about the different places that are visited.

The truth is that it is worth taking these tours, the guide is very kind and friendly, he even considers if we stop for the bathroom halfway there. Must see visit to Hobbiton and Waitomo

We had a wonderful day with Clint. He was very knowledgeable about the tour and surrounding area. The visit to Hobbiton village was magical, just amazing! The glow worms at Waitomo caves were spectacular, never seen that before. A fair amount of driving was involved but it was nice to see so much of the countryside.
